I would have never managed to finish this mission without you, basically I copied placement of your towers and that pretty much did the trick. Thank you my lord :D
I managed to beat this level by leaving my keep alone and moving my entire base to the north side of the map. I used lots of round towers and ballistas to counter Richard's troops only to find out that he wont attack again if I trap my king inside a stone wall. It was hilarious!
I've tried this 10 times before coming here, I found that replacing my stockpile closer to the iron and quarries to the north helps a lot with resource production. The only issue is defending the keep from the hordes that eventually come lol
Stronghold is an economy game. You always need to think about how you're going to make a relatively high steady income and protect the buildings that sustain it. Building must be very quick. First thing I do on this level is put the granary at the bottom of the hill on the right and keep the grass clear. I put the armoury in the area between the hills, build 2 of them. Then I put the market up on the hill on the right with 6 houses around it. My barracks and engineers guild go way back on the left hill. I get plenty of archers out and about 16 engineers. I then dig a moat all the way around from the bottom of the left hill, behind the keep and stockpile nearly to the very right edge of the screen. I build a tower that can hold a ballista just behind to the right of the tree near the keep, I then continue the moat in a maze from the right of the screen to near the tree, then from the tree back to right of the screen, leaving a gap to walk, You should end up with 4 lines of moat zig zagging to the tree in front of your tower back to the right of the screen. While I'm digging the moat I build dairy farms and tanner armourers. Your economy will be cheese and leather armour. The tanners do not need to get to the stockpile to build leather armour. You should also get your tower manned as quickly as possible and lay pitch traps along the zig zagging moat. Early in the game you move your king to safety on the right rear hill near your market. Build another ballista tower on the rear left hill, and leave space to the left of it, your left, to build two taller archer towers. Use the engineers who dug the moat to build ballista's and place about 6 by your bottom tower and as many as you can by the rear tower on the hill. When the enemy comes they'll have to walk the maze and pass your lower tower 3 times. You can pick them off with your archers in the lower tower, or if there's a huge hoard, set fire to your pitch traps and nothing will get through. Meanwhile your dairy farmers will fill the granary quickly and the tanners are out of harm's way between the granary and armoury on the gap between the hills. I've been playing stronghold for years and that plan works perfectly, if you get it done quickly and right. With the moat dug like a maze it offers you the opportunity to produce new archers and engineers. They are your key defence in this level. When the enemy aren't attacking so heavily you will get your own troops, or replacement workers who've been killed, through the maze relatively safely. You'll lose a few engineers and archers, but the more you make the more that will get through.
i usually take some horse archers, 200 or maybe 250 are enogh, then i march them to clean the enemy's castle... just running around and shooting arrows, when the enemy loses all they army and crash his economy, i sand some assassins, between 50 and 80 assassins (they're stronger than mace man) are enogh to kill the lord... they can move upon the walls, this is a great point, because you'll not need catapults or something like it... i do it at each one level on this game :) ty for de video man! you are amazing
Exactly I be seeing him use archers, swordsman and catapults to raid bases. I’m like bruh Assassins are way better especially since they climb walls and the horse archers shoot while riding can’t get better then that!!
Now this was a good mission! Challenging but fair; makes the most of the AI only sending small harassment squads and siege forces as it's tough to even repel those early on. Archers are necessary to quickly dispatch slaves, otherwise crossbowmen are the way to go. Took me several restarts to make it work. I tried Jeffelonious' strat of building a wall of square castles attached to my keep but failed. Went with two separate groupings of round towers, one at the base of the keep's fireplace to ward off the Caliphs and another northwest of my keep to keep Richard at bay. Portable shields are a must. Ground-based fire ballista are not enough, only tower ballista can reach Richard and Caliphs' catapults before it's too late. Great map for a powerful economy. Eventually made a mangonel on one of the towers facing Caliph to wear down his castle before I went in. Oh, and moving stockpile north to the resources is good too.
I like how you rts, you musta trial and error'd the holy shit out of this mission till you had it down like this. Only know one other person personally to do this mission legit.
you didn't noticed hill upper the oponent castle. that hill has only path from your village and from that hill you can Attck Lionheart Richard I with trebuchets from safe distance and than closer and closer. and balistas 4-5 of them on same place safe with portable shields to watch on the river and defend village from attacking catapults. I watched your tutorial here and won this mission after 3 days strugling how to play!!!
I rushed Lionheart and after created many ballistas and shields for defense, crossbows on the keep, ... stone, cook lots of bread and after that it got easy
My first victory here was by relocating my base up the ramp and turtling there.. the enemy was murdering me with catapults and the blue one was a killer with his towers and archers. Later i learned to play better and could win "properly". The key is to micromanage your tower balistas and kill enemy catapults and trebuchets asap. The easiest way was to have a strong crossbow economy: sell crossbows and buy what you need. Also, massed horse archers are great for killing engines on towers
Nice played, hard mission, it might look easy coz there is a lot of resources, but the difference in money is huge and these 3 are hard enemies to fight.
I just beat it! My strategy was to build a moat from cliff edge to cliff edge around the keep using 40 slaves, enclosing the keep. Then I put one tower on the top of the hill, one in front of the keep, and one to the left towards Richard. Filled the towers with shields, bowmen, crossbowmen, and ballista's to defend from catapults. All I had to do from there was balance my food production and sell stone (which was also within the moats circle). Use the gold from the stone to balance my economy so I could collect taxes. And bam! my army was stabilized. Then 300 horse archers later everyone got successfully Fucked!
Thanks for this build i could not for the life of me figure this out, my game speed was at 40 and I couldn't get my keep going fast enough slowed it down (didn't know you could lol) and built up and finally can hold them off
pretty nice. tbh i never managed to finish this mission without blocking the enemies gates with ox tethers. im motivated now to do the (imo) hardest mission of the entire game again. good job, nice video.
For me this is not hardest as mission 25, 32, and 48. Mission 48 are somewhat harder than this because alot limitation. Feels like the AI's were cheating againts you lol.
This Tactic worked best for me: Lionheart is very slow at the beginning, build a tower near your keep and put some crossbows and archers on it to defend ypurself i think 15 of each is enough. In the meantime you can easily rush him with maceman or whatever you like ... that puts you some money in the bank and hurrayyy you have a better start .. i was getting over 17 thousand =) and further your start parameters put you in that case somehow a little i think . you have lot of bread from the beginning and hopes too, so your pesants should be happy and you can focus on sieging =)

If they go to campfire instead of turning into villager or soldier, close the gate door to stop them, then make them soldier again. There should be no one in campfire otherwise enemy can easily kill them. Sell all goods, if you remove empty stockpiles you can reach to the hill.
