Michael Anthony doesn't seem to get the level of respect I would like for him to get lol. Such an integral part w the vocals and bass.
What are you talking about? Mike gets a ton of respect and credit for helping achieve the "VH" sound.
@@mikexxx11didn't get it from Eddie
I literally just said that before I read the comments
The other members of VH agreed with giving MA a smaller percentage, because he didn’t help write the music, Sam included.
It wasn’t just Ed.
He's one of the greatest Bass Players I've ever heard or seen .
From 1978 to1984 The Mighty Van Halen were THE rock band to see. All 4 members were even better live than on record. Best American Hard Rock band...ever.
..With ya Brother
100% Sammy did well for them too, Gary on 3 was cool too
Sorry but no... Aerosmith is the best american Hard Rock Band ever¡
Not even close. Classic Van Halen had/has no peers.
they up there for sure, love in elevator one of my favs, nothing beats jump for me @@L4MMoTH
It's truly criminal to leave Michael Anthony and that bass and vocals out of the comments. He's a beast and such an integral part of the band's sound. Please don't forget about him. Another amazing live performance comes from the Van Hagar days, I believe it's "There's Only One Way to Rock" live from Tokyo. Also, since you are interested in studio vs live versions, I would like to direct you to Careless Memories official video by Duran Duran and the live version from the concert film, As the Lights Go Down.
That live version of Careless Memories is just AMAZING :) That whole show is incredible. What a band, maybe better live than in the studio.
@@n3wsymtl Hard to say, the production level on their studio work is such high quality. I will say tho that their charisma and artistic flair is something that needs to be seen, so live performances are always amazing. That is one of my favorites for sure!
The mighty Van Halen…the David Lee era is untouchable and bomb proof…
yep
Oh my LORD ...VAN HALEN AT THIS TIME THEY WERE THE BIGGEST BAND IN THE WORLD AND IT SHOWS
I saw Van Halen in '79 and '80 and the end of the show felt like a bomb had gone off. Energy through the roof!!
So jealous. You got to them in their prime.
Now this is classic Van Halen. Everything from these days is amazing . Keep it up 👍🏼👍🏼
If anyone ever ask’s about who Van Halen is/ was this is the song to play them. They were the best.
Probably at their height on this concert tour. "So This Is Love?" from the same concert is also awesome...
Saw VH a vast number of times starting with their first tour at the legendary Texas Jam at the cotton bowl in Dallas late 70’s! Big fan! RIP Eddie! ❤️
"Hear About It Later" and "So This is Love?" are great tracks from the same album (Fair Warning). There a live video of those tunes from the same show. "Dance the Night Away" is a great live song from Van Halen II
Fair Warning showed Van Halen going back to their heavier rock roots after doing some radio friendly albums. This is where Unchained came from. "Mean Street" "Dirty Movies" and "Hear About it Later" are also bangers. Such and under rated album.
Agree about Fair Warning. Also the last 8-track I ever bought…My buddy almost blew the doors off his new Fiero when he cranked up the intro to Mean Street. 😂
Mean Streets is probably their coolest song (to me) also I really liked everything on the Woman And Children First album .
...Hard to pick a favorite from the DLR era...they were all awsome...I, II, Women and Children first, Fair Warning, Diver Down and 1984 all have legendary tracks. Really not abad song on any album...Jump is my least fave
I saw VH on this tour back in '81. They rocked the house that night!!!
This was not the last song. This was the 1st song of a 2-song encore. The last song was Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love.
My first time seeing Van Halen for the 1984 Tour. 15 years old & I was a fan before but became a Vanaddict since! I saw them everytime they came afterwards. Im in a smaller town so I had to drive an hour away but I never missed them. I was able to take my son to The Hollywood Bowl for there last concert!! My son was 16 years old so VH is special in our house. Thank you guys for putting a smile on my face, you guys are awesome!!!
I saw them at the Los Angeles Sports Arena in the early 80s. It was fun and I was a major fan. You missed out on all the excitement from the crowd.
Alex ,Eddies brother on the drums drove the beat on all of their songs to another level.
This was actually the first of two encores. They returned after this, playing the beginning riff of the Cheech & Chong bit “Earache My Eye”, before launching into Ain’t Talkin’ ‘bout Love. That was the end of the show. It was the second of the three times I saw Van Halen and was fantastic.
Seems like yesterday when I saw them the first time in 1980, hook immediately. I was 18 and never stop listening that’s my addiction
Funny how every memeber but Michael really didn't wear shirts, yet in the Hot for teacher video he is shirtless being a sumo wrestler 😂
Alex's drum kit! Great googly moogly!!!! Lucky enough to see them 7 times myself!
Great reaction. I’m a die hard VH fan with Roth, but one of the best live performances I’ve seen on RUclips was when they did the song 5150 from the Live Without A Net concert in New Haven, Ct. You definitely gotta check that one out. The whole band was on fire and Eddie was Eddie, an absolute animal. 😂
I was at the Live Without a Net concert in New Haven. Great time!
@@chrisbeloff6689 that’s awesome, man. What a great show to have witnessed.
Watched them 5 times back in the late 70's early 80's and every concert was one big party!!
I saw this tour fair warning tour 1981 I was 14 year's old and saw them@ the LA sports arena LA CA 6-19-81 second row middle section on the floor & man they blew away I couldn't hear for a week 💯 so worth it! Vh4life!!
Seen em three times in the 80's and 80's, great live band! Unchained is one of my all time favorites...
This was a great performance. David isn't always known for delivering great or even good vocals live, but this one was pretty good. Nice reaction. I saw them live with Sammy as the lead singer in high school. They were awesome. My friend and I were on the floor right by the stage. When Van Halen came on stage everyone pushed forward and we were getting squished. My friend said, "Come with me if you want to live." Just kidding, he did say follow me and we made our way to the side of the stage. When Eddie did his solo, he did part of it right in front of us.
Awesome!
Saw them in 81 and then on the 1984 tour loudest concerts I ever seen and heard. Good ole Diamond Dave.
My favorite VH song. Great reaction i can tell you both appreciate great music and bands !
Before the phone era, and people actually had a real Fun time watching a Concert 😊
I grew up watching these guys from 78’ Amazing performers. The Best in their Prime
This is the reason i asked my dad to bought the Fair Warning LP for me back in 81 when i was 12, i still have it, my dad passed away in 2019, thank you dad.
I saw them in 1982,they were great!Great concert,great times!
That tour was the 1st of many times I witnessed the greatness of VAN HALEN
Lucky Enough to see them in Concert in 1980 & 81. The Energy of the Band was matched by the Crowds Energy. Great Live Band
David Lee Roth is a black belt in Karate, thats the reason he jumps and other moves.☮
Great Band
Great Song
Charismatic Singer
Legendary Guitarist
Fabulous Bass Lines w/Amazing Backing Vocals
Criminally Underrated Drummer
It’s Always a Party with Van Halen. High Energy Band that always Fires Up the Crowd David Lee Roth Frontman’s Frontman
In reference to David Lee Roth (Diamond Dave) looking like a wrestler from back in the day. He was not a wrestler, but he is a martial arts master; earning black belts in Kung Fu, Jeet Kune Do, and Karate; he also an accomplished in sword-fighting.
Alex and his 4 kick asses. On top of the world here.
Legendary VanHalen
Back in the day Van halen rocked the stage. Saw them many times with Roth and Sammy. Loved them both. They were called the Mighty Van Halen for a reason! Roth and Sammy both were great frontmen. Alex was a very underated drummer. Mickey was a great bass player but more impresive was his back-up vocals, he was a huge reason why the vocals were so good. And we don't really have to say anything about Mr. Eddie Van Halen do we! He reinvented the guitar, he made the guitar sound like anything but a guitar. That was the genius of Eddie. There will never be another Eddie Van Halen! You will never be forgot. RIP
Same year i saw them at The Forum in l.a. what an incredible show!
I went to the Van Halen Concert in Detroit at Cobo Hall that year , It was Amazing , the stack of Amp heads in the back of your video Eddie would run up and jump on them during his Solo , It was Crazy watching the wall weave back and fourth , The Concert was like watching 4 dudes from a party just having fun playing music
This was my exact first concert ever. Fair Warning Tour. I was 12. I'm from the East Bay...flashback everytime
Great live song to react too..raw true rock n roll .. good job giys
The Mighty Van Halen
Alex van halen is my fav from out the bunch. Hes going crazy on the drums as usual 😁🤘
OK you guys need to dig up:
"SO this is Love?" from the
same '81 Oakland concert...
Great start.... good energy & jam.
(Michael Anthony on bass....too)
The whole concert was like that. There are a few more songs from this show on here.
Awesome reaction.
Saw this tour in Orlando, Fl, they opened for the Rolling Stones at the Tangerine Bowl....they were drunk, and it was Nasty....
Unchained on the Fair Warning Tour (this tour) was the first encore song. They finished with Ain't Talkin' Bout Love. Unchained was such a strong song that Van Halen chose to use it as an encore song on the tour that the song was released! RARE!!!
Definetly mean street. Saw them twice in 1982 and 1984. Energy and loud off the charts.
Ok , the first " solo eruption " was from live without a net concert in Connecticut!
Great to see a review on this song, but you got to watch the other two videos from this concert in Oakland, “I Don’t Wanna Hear About It Later” and “So This Is Love”. They actually precede this song. Van Halen: the world’s heaviest party band!
Hard to believe that this Dave has morphed into what he became. He was the ultimate front man......maybe didn't remember the words to his songs......but he put on a great show.
And I agree......Michael on bass and backing vocals are a huge part of the VH sound.
You have got to checkout Van Halen at the U.S. Festival 1983. And the song you want to look for is Little Guitars.
Great Concert when they came thru San Antonio
Eddie and Michael always smiling is awesome to see. David smiles unless he has a sexy smoldering thing happening😂❤ Alex intense on the drums. I wish I had gone to see them live.🤘🔥
Back then, David Lee Roth in his prime was the greatest rock and roll frontman ever.
Then he got older and became a cartoon character.
The best of the best🤘😎🔥🔥🔥
Michael Anthony ROCKS on bass AND vocals !!!😎🎸🙋🙌👍
I lucky guy, growing up in the 70ths ❤
Actually that IS how you end a concert in the 80’s 😎
A ton of freakin energy
Love Van Halen. You should check out another live performance of Only One Way to Rock from their 1989 Tokyo concert. Some cool guitar shredding....
975, there will Never be another band like the original Van Halen!
Awesome live version. I have a huge request - few reactors pick up this one ... But if you want to contrast Dave live to Sammy live ... Watch Live Without A Net - Song: 5150 (same concert as your first reaction with Eruption / Guitar Solo). This is one of the deeper tracks on the 5150 album. If you want to learn the studio version first - no need to do a reaction (like Unchained) ... But save the reaction to the live version of 5150 (again, Live Without A Net). The energy of the entire band is incredible - and the solo he does is what pushes it over the edge. It incorporates several of the key styles he uses. You can go straight to the live version w/o familiarizing yourself with the studio version - but you will likely appreciate more with a few listens to the original first. Keep up the great reactions!
That would be GREAT if you could please react to 5150 Live ( 1986) video. Eddie crushes it!!!!
@@vanhall8253 This hidden gem is amazing ... those that know, know! My brother's VHS tape is proof we knew!!
Badass!!
Nice, guys! Please listen to VH doing "5150" (from the Live Without a Net concert) and "Judgement Day," Top of the World" and "Runaround," all from the "Live: Right Here, Right Now" concert. The mighty Van Halen RULES live!!
Best performance ever
Off of my favorite Van Halen album although I didn't catch them on this tour. I was able to see them the following tour. For the Diver Down album. And the amazingly successful 1984 which came afterwards. And then caught them again in 2012 on the reunion with DLR. Never caught them with Sammy. Just didn't work out that way. Not that I was avoiding it but I just wasn't cognizant as much when they were touring with Hagar. And I'm not one of these Hagar haters. Although I do prefer the version of Van Halen with the DLR more. I enjoyed the version with Sammy as well. Take care always.
R.I.P. Van Halen
RIP King Edward 🤘🤘
Hell yeah! My fave band!
Use to be my fave song by them growing up (Aint Talkin bout Love now), but still in my Top 5 from VH)
EDIT: To truly enjoy a VH concert led by David Lee Roth ya had to be there. Not the best sounding Live if you don't appreciate the band. But man. In concert hardly anyone could touch them. Just so raw and unfiltered! Loved seeing them live! Rip Eddie. 😢
My favorite VH performance will always be the '83 US Festival, iconic and nostalgic 🤘 I remember watching part of it back in the day but thanks to Y0uTube you can watch the whole thing 😉
Greatest band on the planet I’m this era
Seen them live twice. Both times, great shows. I think David Lee Roth may have possibly, got some inspiration, from Jim Dandy of Black Oak Arkansas.
Simply the best band ever.
Wow can feel the energy coming at you ❤ have you guys done culture club " time"
Davids is a back belt used to do cool double sword show
VH at the height of there delicious powers.
I was completely stoned for most of the 80s. A lot of booze, weed and cocaine. But I do remember this band.....Oh my did they bring it in live shows.
Please react to the song " 5150" LIVE video from 1986. One of the BEST live performances i've ever seen! Video was recorded from the live without a net concert.
This was years before Jump….which really had nothing to do with Dave’s Jumping…DLR is a multi-martial artist…which is why he does those jump splits, roundhouse and crescent kicks…as well as flourishes with the microphone stand.
They were a great live band…and didn’t hold anything back…which made the crowd do the same….which made them go even harder….and so on….it was reciprocal!
Nobody could touch prime Van Halen.
Being from old school this was and still is my favorite rock band.I bought their first album, yes vinyl in 1978 and it blew my mind when I heard it. Sounds you never heard from a guitar. I was lucky enough to see them 4 times live. One hell of a live band.I saw them from 79 to 83. Some of the best shows I have ever seen. David Lee Roth, hell of a front man to keep the energy going, Michael Anthony, and Alex Van Halen,(Both underrated by the way) Michael with that thumping bass and back ground vocals, and Alex keeping the beat (one of the best by the way) and what can you say about(The Master) Edward Van Halen. In my opinion the best I ever saw and I saw just about ever act back in the day.He was the Hendrix of our day. Where Jimi left off Eddie took it to another level and beyond. He made it look so effortless doing the things he did. There will never be another. RIP Eddie you left us to soon and you will live on forever and never be forgotten. This fan thanks you for some of the best times he ever had. A great party band that was high energy, and knew how to Rock. Just remember Eddie was self taught and him and Alex were classically trained because of their father. I love your channel and both of you do a great job. Keep it up. Listen to the first album all the way through. The debut album is one of the best. Rock On!
You really need to watch their song Mean Streets " & "Poundcake"!!
Check out the “Woman and Children First” album. So good!!
Dave almost looks like the wrestler Michael P.S. Hayes from the fadolas Freebirds
By this song you felt like you had run a marathon.
I’ve always wondered if they made a mistake at the beginning when the guitar/bass transition into the lyric came too early.
Yall need to check out some live Black Oak Arkansas. Their singer, Jim Dandy Mangrum, was DEFINATELY David Lee Roths mentor. I got to see Van Halen in 1984 and they were fantastic, besides DLR being so drunk he fell off the stage.
So so loud live I was with my girl and friends and at one point I look over beside my gf and her brother is sound asleep lol I couldn't hear my own thoughts
The Mighty Van Halen ,
3 piece band !! Eddie , Michael , and Alex , 3 powerhouses . Also some of the best background singers out there ! You should check out Black and Blue or Amsterdam , Live in Amsterdam !!! David was a good front man , but Sammy brought new life to the band , great singer , could hold his own with the guitar and he was a great front man !!
Van Hagar is great music, but there are too many love songs and ballads from that era. Classic, untouchable Van Halen was with David Lee Roth. It's not even close.
I last saw VH in 1980 in the UK, DLR was shambolic and couldn't hold a note, the rest were ok, sounds to me like there was considerable postproduction work on the soundtrack here.
A million percent true. I have been watching this video for 40 years, and thanks to youtube and other outlets where one can find bootlegs, none of the Fair Warning Tour shows sound near as good as this "live" version. Yes, it is filmed at a real concert, but the quality of the background vocals and Dave as well, plus obvious editing where Eddie is playing two different guitars lol, leads me to easily believe that it was heavily edited, and perhaps even played in a studio to match/mimic the raw REAL live version. If they sounded this good most or all of the time, their legend would be even bigger than it is today. With that being said, this is like the Holy Grail for old school VH fans like myself. The recording perfectly displays the era and energy of Van Halen in their absolute prime. The whole band is shredding, their absolute peak performing live was on this tour.
ya don't get that kinda excitement in hip hop.. btw Tone Loc's Wild Thing has Eddie's guitar rif from "Jamie's Crying.
You should listen to One Way To Rock by Sammy and then listen to the Live Without a Net version. You will understand how awesome Eddie really was.
Check out “Judgement Day” live!!!
Gotta love 'em.
Unchained is well, unchained.
