Στο βίντεο αυτό σας παρουσιάζω τον λόφο Ασπίδας που βρίσκεται στην βόρεια πλευρά της πόλης του Άργους. Μέσα από αυτό θα δείτε και θα μάθετε τί κρύβετε μέσα σε αυτόν !! Ιστορία που αναβλύζει μέσα από έναν καταπράσινο λόφο !!
SHIELD HILL
The shield hill is located on the north side of the city of Argos and as mythology would have it, it got its name because the goddess Athena hid her shield, which brought on her, the head of Medusa, given to her by the Argive Perseus. Another version is because the hill looks like a shield, if you see him from the hill of the castle of Argos.
At the top of the hill in the pine trees is built the temple of Prophet Ilias. The temple is small in size with a wooden roof and in the east it has a small semicircular arch. No frescoes are preserved inside it and the masonry is made of slow stones. The temple dates back to post-Byzantine times perhaps early eighteenth century.
Next to the Prophet Elias temple, there is the tourist kiosk. It is essentially a restaurant, which unfortunately is no longer in operation. In the past it was open year-round, with good food and live music on several nights.
On the Western slope of the hill they were established during historical times the sanctuaries of Apollo, i.e. that of the Pythians and the perceptive Athena. The original use of the space goes back to the eighth century before Christ however, the basic shaping of the space was done during the archaic, classical and Hellenistic times that is, from the sixth to the third century B.C.
Many residents of Argos and the surrounding areas choose the hill for sports, such as walking and running.
The hill of the Prophet Elias, the so-called shield It was inhabited for the first time at the end of the Neolithic era around 3500 B.C. Only fragments of pottery found in the recesses of the natural rock remain from this first installation. During the Middle Bronze Age or Middle Helladic period (2000-1600 B.C.), an important settlement was founded on the top of the hill from which numerous buildings came to light. Recent investigations in the south-eastern sector of the hill have shown that the buildings belong to 3 main building phases. The 2 younger ones are kept in better condition. The finding of numerous local vases, mainly produced but also listed, indicate the intense activity of the local pottery workshops, but also the contacts of the settlement with important centers of the Aegean, such as Aegina and Minoan Crete.
At the beginning of the Mycenaean era, around 1600 B.C., this important settlement was abandoned and the inhabitants seem to have settled in the residential nucleus that existed at the eastern foot of the hill.
In the archaic era (6th century B.C.) the hill was used as a place of worship, as indicated by the presence of several deposits containing votives, i.e. tributes. At the end of the classical era (fourth century BC), the hill was surrounded by a strong polygonal wall that enclosed several buildings.
