Put a black plastic bucket on side with pine needles in it in the run. Now my quails made a nest there and lay eggs in it. After collecting enough of them for incubating will try to leave eggs there and see if my quails will get broody or not. Just an experiment with an incubator as a back up. :) Thank you for sharing your experience.
This video was delightful to watch, even as a 60yo woman I squealed with glee was each chick hatched. I have 2 young hens just start laying 6 eggs each, I hatched the hens in a incubator, and they live in a 2x4m glasshouse, so they have plenty of room each, I'm so hoping one day to have them hatch their own eggs. Great tip about putting the male in with her for 10 mins a day, becuase never seemed to leave her alone, when they were together.
with more breeders/ hobbyists changing the living conditions for quail and giving them the opportunity to actually nest besides just being raised on wire floors and over crowded living space, etc, I can see that in the future we will have more and more quail going broody and breed that instinct back into the bird. it's there we just need to revive it again.
I have a sweet c j quail who is a pet and gardens with me and is just our favorite. I guess she felt very comfortable because this spring she started making clutches. I don't have a male so my friend gave me some fertilized eggs from her birds. She made a nest on an orange curtain in my basement and she accepted the eggs from my friend right away. There were around 5 fertilized eggs plus her own unfertilized and she hatched 2. She is amazing and she is doing a great job as a mommy. The birds are only 2 days old. They are in a safe brooding box with her now. I am wondering if you supplemented heat or if there is any advice you would give? I am hoping they are girls so they may learn this from their mommy, but honestly, she was just a bird I got and her parents would have been cage birds so I don't know why she was able to get broody. I honestly thought she wouldn't be able to do it because they don't usually, but she has proved me wrong. Good for her.
My quail hen lays alot of eggs but never sits/incubates them at all and just leaves them there untill I collect them I've put some dried grass to see if she's interested in building a nest but she isn't...any suggestion what to do to make her broody
You prolly dont give a damn but does anybody know a way to log back into an Instagram account..? I somehow lost the login password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me.
@Branson Harlem thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and im trying it out atm. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
So I’m planning on getting quail but I don’t know if I need heat lamps and a incubator, because I’m thinking that the mother will look after the egg and babies is this true or not?
I have a coturnix quail hen. Not sure how old. It was laying one egg a day for a good period of time. Then it stopped for about a month. It finally started laying again about a week ago, but the first egg wasn't shinny at all and most of the spots on half of the egg was kinda washed away. The next day, it laid the second egg that was almost like matte copper red, no spots at all. The shell was flat of the side where it laid on the floor. And it hadn't laid the third egg yet for the last several days. Do you have any idea why it's like that?
Very interesting. I wouldn't worry about the egg colouration. The egg being flat... I have not ever encountered such a thing. You will find that some eggs, if you catch them immediately after being laid; they will be sticky until the outer layer of protection hardens.
J Phn. Did the flat egg have a shell? Or was it soft and rubber like. If so it's a deficiency of something in the diet, probably calcium or vegetation such as fresh grass.
I had quail before 7 or 9 I guess same breed as well, but I decided to sold them after a weeks. lack of enclosure and space one of the main reason to trigger me.
Thank you for sharing the video with us. It was exciting and educational to watch for I didn't know how to raise quail and this was full of tips. Thank you. Jacky Waldon.
Egypt! Cool! Greetings from Australia :-) Little simple kind acts with a little effort can make a whole lot of difference can't they ;-) Always welcome.
hi great videos . I tried messaging privately but I'm new at messaging on youtube and can't tell if it sent to you. but I would love to buy some fertile eggs from you. mainly your collosal if you are still doing them. and also your jumbos. I'm just starting with quails and want to get good bloodlines. I'm down albion park so not too much of a drive from you.
Raising Quails I subscribe and LOVE ur vids! I always look forward to checking notifications and seeing ur videos! May I ask u a couple questions? How did u get ur quails broody? And what breed of quail is best of becoming broody?
I have only one femail quail that I caught one night in front of my house. I acted like it was broody when I caught it. It started laying the first egg after in my house about less than a week. Do you think this quail might be nesting like yours does?
I would have no idea if it is nesting or not unless I saw it first hand. All the best looking after it though. Give it a great place to stay with soil and straw ... Thanks for watching my videos.
J Phn. Even if it is broody without a male the eggs won't hatch. If it is a wild quail and was broody it will no longer be broody due to the stress of being caught. It's very easy to tell if a bird is broody. They will make a nest And they will spend all day and night on the nest, except for an hour or two where they will go to get food/water. They will also walk around with all their feathers fluffed up when they are off the nest
You can line breed broody and mothering back into quail bloodlines, most have forgotten how to become mothers and raise chicks. They are too inbred and forgot after many generations of inbreeding. This is just one step forward to improving their genetics.
@@missnugget8247 that depends on the bird, many individuals will never sit on eggs. They were bred in smaller cages in mass, over time farmers chose to not give them the place to exercise their natural behaviors.

Your quails are hatched by incubator who sat on egg

The incubator is the must, if you want reliably get new chicks. The natural hatching is rare.
I have a question,
I have some quails, my quails are breeding and laying eggs but they are not nesting and laying eggs..
Please help me out.
Thanks..
Muhammad Waqas Ch do they have a male?
@@avatarwan2271 yes alot ratio is 30:70
You need to provide nesting materials and plenty of space to nest.
Thank you for posting this!!
This is amazing 😍

The intermittent break from laying the second time round could mean the hen is stressed.

My quail is doing the same thing to!
What happened with your quail
Is it okay to put a male with a broody hen?
I had quail before 7 or 9 I guess same breed as well, but I decided to sold them after a weeks. lack of enclosure and space one of the main reason to trigger me.
how to makes my country quail wants to brood its self. because my quail does not want to brood. she just lay her eggs and leave them and never brood?

Nice & informative video. Can anyone tell me how many eggs would a Quail lay per clutch on an average
I've never really counted, but a lot. If I was to roughly guess, between 8 and 20 if they wanted to sit. If not, they just keep laying and laying.
