I have been wanting a cordless router for a while now and since I have a few Ryobi tools and batteries, I thought I would give their One+ 18V Cordless Router a test. I have been working on building a table out of plywood and I need to round over the edges so I thought that it was the perfect opportunity to check out Ryobi's Cordless Router. I hope you enjoy my unbox and review and don't forget the details below!

Thanks for watching my Ryobi One+ 18V Cordless Router Unbox & Review Video!
This router is a steaming pile of hot garbage! And this comes from someone who has an entire tool set of Ryobi stuff. My other Ryobi tools I love, but after having this router for only a year and using it less than a handful of times, it started to fail. And by fail I mean it would suddenly plunge deeper in a cut. So I went back to the handbook and made sure I was setting everything correctly, and I was. What I realized was the pertinent piece that travels up and down the depth shaft is plastic. It needs to be metal. This is what is preventing mine from not having this failure. I know these are cheap and this might prohibit Ryobi from making this component metal, but it there ever was a component on this router that needs to be metal in order to have it work properly, this is that one. I'm currently look for a replacement router OUTSIDE the Ryobi family.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and those details!
I caught them on sale at home Depot in 2023 for only forty nine bucks I got two
Wow that’s awesome!
the wider opening takes the dust port so when fitted their is no chance of stray fingers getting trimmed
Great tip. Thanks for the comment.
The Rigid edge guide will fit this Ryobi Router.
Great to know! Thank you for the comment.
Hi, One thinks the power issue will be solved by using a punchier battery. One is a Ryobi fan (batteries kinda anchor one don’t they?) One was using my saw and it struggled so popped in bigger battery and Whoosh all done.
One is somewhat concerned about the finger routing issue and hope you were at fault as it may ruin a purchasing decision?
Good video for a first time view.

Thanks Bob. I agree with all you said. The finger was definitely my fault. I think I you will be happy with it with a better battery. But be careful with your finger!
Doesn’t the base remove completely for bit installation. The small base and tall body plus battery make mine feel pretty tippy. Looking for larger aftermarket base for better registration.
I think you are right. It can feel a bit tippy depending on the cut your making.
Mines the 424 with square to round baseplate. I just realized I could turn the base plate around so the longer square end was registering farther onto the work and I wasn’t gripping it wrong to do so. Planning to buy Lee Valley’s larger baseplate and mini router table that plate drops into for edge work on small pieces.
Thanks for the video! After watching/reading a bunch of reviews on this tool I was wondering if you've had any issues with cut/plunge depth moving during use, because it does not lock the depth strong enough? That is one of the few negative things I've picked up from reviews. Many thanks
You bet! Yes I do think that after a while it can slip especially if you’re using it on hard woods. I think it is a great light duty router especially for soft woods and trim work.
@@diywithandrew Ok, thank you! I was thinking to use it for mostly edge trim, and it seems to handle that decently in relation to what you pay for.
Great vid, coould you make a pluge cut with this? Rout a square in a square?
Thanks. You couldn't plunge cut as it is not set up for that. You could rout a square as the baseplate does have a straight edge.
@@diywithandrew Thanks for the reply mate. I wanted something to trim and be able to rout a perfect square in a square.
@@MrLeeCox For sure!
Yes it does have an edge guide available
Awesome. Thx for sharing.
How long will it run on a signal charge
That’s a tough question to answer because it depends on how fast the setting is on as well as what type of Ah battery is being used. I’m not that smart to know the variables.
Get your fingers out of there!
Yep!
I kept saying that too!
Can you make a vid of AEG palm router?
I’ve never heard of that brand. I will check it out and see if it might be worth a video.
@@diywithandrew AEG is european Ridgid. Same brand.
@@91Some Oh cool. I didn't know that.
Big mistake is installing bit when battery is installed. Don't do that.
Great reminder but I didn’t do that. At about 2:20 you can see me clearly inserting the battery after I installed the bit.
Piece of grap!
There are other brand models I want to try to see how well they do.
Nope, don’t think so. No Ryobi is crap or grap as you put it, some are not as good as others however the brand as a whole is good. Please remember it’s a mid range brand.
