A fascinating video!! Big concrete pours like this are fun to watch. An operation of this scale requires quite a bit of planning and preparation. I enjoyed seeing the construction document showing the street closures required, the positioning of the flagmen to direct the trucks to the respective pumps, where the trucks clean out after delivery, etc. At the batch plant, monitoring takes place of the different aspects of concrete production and traffic conditions to get the concrete to the site. At the site, there are plenty of people involved in the placing of the concrete; screeding, floating and finishing. Definitely a fine video, thanks for posting it!!

My question is why wouldn't a construction firm with many cba's tied to various labor unions hire a signatory teamster concrete outfit...nothing against silvi their concrete is great i've used it many times. However anderson or jdm could have maned that pour with union drivers.

Original concrete contractor shit the bed and didn’t have adequate material to supply the mat pour so silvi was brought in a couple weeks before the pour to do it. As part of the agreement, carney agreed to boot the other concrete supplier entirely and give silvi the whole project. Once the mat was done, carney reneged on the agreement. Silvi ultimately won a $1.3 million dollar verdict for wrongful termination.

    The numbers:
585 truck loads at roughly $220 delivery charge= $128,700.00 (most likely they didn't pay Silvi that much on delivery)
5850 cubic yards of concrete with high amount of SuperP. maybe 4000 PSI mix:?? That would equate to about $150 a cubic yard 2017 pricing That's about $877,500.00 in concrete
$128,700.00 + $877,500.00 + $80,496.00 ( 8 per freaking cent Philadelphia sales tax) = $1,086,696.00 total in concrete cost. That's over a million dollars in concrete over a weekend. And that's without weekend plant opening charges and overtime...
I would expect that top management had a very nice vacation the following week. Well deserved. Silvi people are good people. Toby Rich is one of a kind.

What an amazing job. I hear the W Hotel Phildelphia is going to be the hottest hotel in Philly and is going to have a pool bar.

Why is the pump operator running a double ended hose? Makes no since, risk getting someone hurt for no reason.

Silvi concrete is crap. They stole this job off of Anderson. Silvi concrete was watered down so much it failed there 30 day break test. The hotel W had to change plans. The building couldn't be built that high because silvi failed there break test.

Anthony C I heard the same about the failed cylinder breaks and the change of plans to the hotel's construction...neither of which were mentioned. Hard to believe a company can travel that distance and provide quality material, not to mention the cost in tolls and offer a competitive price...wonder where the cutbacks were. Check out Big Pour Philadelphia 2017 .

glevito I feel what your saying. Like they saying goes YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. That hotel will have such structure problems because of the junk concrete provided silvi.

They stole this job?I worked at silvi for 20 years and ran loads to this job i work for a smaller company now, from what i heard silvi had the fly ash to do this job and other companies wanted to buy the fly ash ,silvi is in the business of selling concrete and they had the means to do this job it was not stolen,I believe it was a 7000 or 8000 lb mix and it did not fail the breaks ,That mix did not wanna pump because of the lack of water ,I ran for 13hrs on this job and they even gave me a bonus made a nice chunk of loot that night and it was not a long distance ride 70 mph down 95 in a brand new cosh easy peezy 25min drivah.
