The main reason the lakes and rivers in New Zealand are cold is that they are fed from snow/ice melt and glacial runoff. Glad you enjoyed your trip to NZ, it’s a pretty cool place to live.
Well that certainly makes sense then! Oklahoma lakes are warm and brown mostly...much different haha! It was fantastic and we've dreamed of living there ever since this trip! ❤

@@elahhale9057 Yes I have and electrical engineering degree and do computer programming currently and Abbie is a nurse so I think we're both on the 'desired' list or whatever that is. It's just hard to make a move to the other side of the world with friends, family, and the unknown you know? But I have been looking at the NZ immigration website a good amount 😍

You certainly got a good look around the Lake Wakatipu area and although I have flown all around the same area during my airforce training camp, and the most severe turbulence I have ever encountered in my years of flying was around Queenstown, I never got to land on the mountain tops however, so thanks for the views and commentary.

You had awesome weather for your flight. Have flown in helicopters a number of times, but my first ever was about 43-44 years ago, and was from Queenstown. Was little 3 person helicopter with the pilot in the middle and a passenger each side.
We got so lucky that day with the weather! It was amazing!!
That's the only way you'd get me to the top of a mountain. I enjoyed that!

When I was a kid, I was told ..."if the river or lakes are warm, then they are probably polluted or not getting the oxygen/currents flowing through."
That sounds like a good saying. Pretty much all the water in Oklahoma is warm and brown 🤣
This is also where Tom Cruise filmed Mission Impossible 6 as New Zealand was the only country to let him fly the helicopter 🚁 to make the movie 🎥.
Oh that's cool! I imagine there's lots of movies filmed in NZ as it's just the most beautiful landscape!

We actually did not pay that much though. We had planned to do a glacier hike when we were in Franz Josef the day before (that tour is currently 485nzd but I believe it was cheaper in 2020) but because of bad weather they gave us a credit for the flight we took in Queenstown. But then, when we checked in, they upgraded us to the LotR tour which had 2 landings instead of just the original 1 landing we had booked.

@@haroldfulo6858 well, yes and no. Our original plan was the glacier hike, so the helicopter part was just a short flight to the glacier, the main part was a guided hike on top of the glacier. We were really disappointed the weather was bad. But, the tour we ended up on was really cool. It was longer and had the two stops which one was still a glacier, just no hiking around.

The tour left from the Queenstown airport. We followed a jet on the taxi way for a short distance…it was fun!

We did have a video from Franz Josef a few days before this one. The original plan was to do the helicopter and glacier landing there but they cancelled it for weather and we had to keep going on our road trip. This helicopter tour was a partnership they had and since we were on our way to Queenstown it worked out to do one from there!
How long was this helicopter ride?
