    I spent the best part of a day at the Queenstown luge doing some filming for an insurance company who were defending a case against somebody who had a misfortune on a luge ride. It was amazing running down this hair-raising ride a number of times with somebody else picking up the tab. Queenstown is a nice place and I was fortunate to have spent a week in 1971 camped at the airport with my airforce flying course getting all around the bottom part of the South Island. It looks to have changed quite a bit in the intervening years.

      Oh wow that would be nice! I really would have spent an entire day just going down that over and over again, Abbie on the other hand thought once was enough lol! Oh I bet Queenstown looks a LOT different now than in 1971 🤣

    You guys are just the cutest! I watched your video at the starting leaving home and I was so happy for you guys, you were so excited.
    I don't know if you have, as I haven't seen all your NZ videos but I hope you went to Nelson and the Abel Tasman National Park. I've been everywhere in NZ and probably take those places for granted but the one place for me I feel is very special is the Abel Tasman. Its a piece of secluded, prehistoric feeling, coastal paradise. Really makes you feel like you've gone back in time and are emersed in nature.

    • @AbbieandWiebe
      @AbbieandWiebe  3 года назад

      Oh thank you so much!
      So we have already started a list of what we missed and Abel Tasman is at the top. We had originally planned to go there after taking the ferry from Wellington to Picton but for rental car reasons we ended up flying between the islands and didn't have enough time to go to the very north or south part of the South Island 😢
      It looks stunning though, and definitely on the next NZ trip!

      @@AbbieandWiebe @@AbbieandWiebe I've only ever taken the interislander ferry twice. Its quite expensive, but the views are nice on a summer's day sailing.
      A good site to check out for booking activities is bookme.co.nz - could help with planning ideas, too. It's not good for booking heaps in advance, but once you're on the road and heading to your next destination and want a discounted activity, it's good.
      Between Picton and Nelson is a small town called Havelock. They run a day trip called the Pelorus Mail Boat (themailboat.co.nz) and it was a lovely summers day out through the sounds.
      Be sure to check out the wineries in Blenhiem and the pick your own cherries on the road out of Blenhiem toward Nelson.
      Seems like international travel is so far in the future, but it gives us all time to plan our next trips 😊

    It is very expensive to eat out here in New Zealand but that's alot due to we don't TIP staff here because wages here are government set at $22 hr minimum wage for all workers here. So it's a livingish pay structure and you don't have to rely on tips etc, not to say they don't accept tips if given but it is expensive to eat and our meat and veggies etc is mostly free range etc.

      It's not too bad if you come with the expectation of food being expensive. It was def the healthiest and best quality food we've had in awhile! 😍

      Yes we've had another comment calling sweet potato kumara. It's really interesting hearing the Maori culture :)

    • @mb68nz35
      @mb68nz35 3 года назад

      That is incorrect. When Europeans arrived in New Zealand, six introduced cultigens (cultivated plants that have no known wild ancestor) were being grown by Māori. They were:
      kūmara (sweet potato, Ipomoea batatas) hue (bottle gourd, Lagenaria siceraria) aute (paper mulberry, Broussonetia papyrifera) taro (Colocasia esulenta) uwhi (yam, Dioscorea species) tī pore (Pacific cabbage tree, Cordyline fruticosa).
