Yoshi's Island DS - SNES Music Hack Showcase

- Thanks to the hard work of xXchainchomp01, there is now a way to experience Yoshi's Island DS with music based off of the original Yoshi's Island on SNES! All of the original tunes are recreated using the existing soundfont of Yoshi's Island DS.
This video allows you to listen to some of the DS recreations of the original Yoshi's Island's music. Using the museum, which contains many different level types to play around with, you're able to already hear quite a few of the tracks right off the bat in this video.
You will need the ROM and the patch to try this excellent hack, along with an xdelta patcher tool to apply the patch. Give it a try for yourself! Please note that the RHDN patch is incorrect and uses a much older/different version as shown by the last date modified on the file -- it is listed as having last been modified in 2011 instead of 2015 as in the file I have taken the liberty of hosting. This has still not been fixed to be the proper latest version.
You need the European ROM (not the US ROM) and the true Version 3 release that is hosted at gofile.io/d/PC... in order to benefit from the same version of music as in this video.
If, and only if, the above link does not work, use my Dropbox link to the patch instead, at
www.dropbox.co... to download it. I will periodically fix this video description with the latest link to the hosted patch so you can have a consistent place to get the correct patch.

Wow... this is all I've ever wanted from Yoshi's Island DS.
It's interesting seeing a gap between the top and bottom screens to compensate for the distance between the actual screens on the ds

I personally don't have a problem with DS's music, but I can understand why this was made.
As someone who loves the soundtrack of the original Yoshi’s Island more than in the sequels, thank God this was made!
I'm not so much of the idea of changing the music completely, but I am of the idea of adding more music brought from SNES for certain levels.
For example, in YI SNES there is no specific music for the jungle and seacost levels. For example, the music for "Wildlands" and "In the clouds" seems perfect to me. But for example, level 5-7 YIDS could have Athletic music from YI SNES.
Wanting to listen to old music in a new game is clinging to the past and nostalgia, and I'm not like that. But if I can rescue certain songs to listen to it on some levels.

Thank god somebody made this! I remember the music was a huge turn off when playing this.
It got to the point that I didn't even finish the game, even though i'm a huge YI fan
Now that we have the full version of the song from the leaked beta, I wonder if we'll get a rendition of the Tutorial level theme in the next update of this hack.
What leaked song are you talking about?
@@mariomadproductions In the Gigaleak, there was an extended version of the Training Course level. It's longer than it is in the final.

A large amount of the ports do sound pretty good, but I still prefer some of the songs in one of the older versions

I noticed that as well. As far as I can tell, you're correct.
As someone who grew up with the DS game, I wish the music was more like this. Not that I dislike the DS soundtrack, but it’s not as memorable.

I think I prefer the Museum theme from one of the previous incarnations, but I like the progress this hack has made!
I prefer the title theme from previous incarnations too. There was something relaxing about the waves and the guitar transitioning into the YI DS Flower Garden theme.

There's no way to get this patch working anymore as far as I can see. None of the EU roms available online are matching the ups file.

The patch hosted at RHDN is actually much older and worse-sounding than the current one. It seems they've mixed things up. I've updated the description to use the same patch version as in the video. If you want the music from that earlier version, you're free to go to RHDN instead.
