Very honest interview... those who call Raaja as egoistic... pls watch this... he has the magnanimity to name some of his contemporaries (not so popular musicians ) as one of the best... and humbly accepts that it is fate that made him popular.... what more simplicity you can expect from a legend with 1000+ classics to his credit... and he gave excellent music irrespective of popular director or new comer ... but today’s composers want to work only with popular banners and directors... Raaja is the King of Music.. Incomparable

4. Why today’s musicians don’t have the standard he expects

Valid points...he is a great genius in music.... but if he is so humble y he sent legal notice to his bestest frnd Mr.SPB?? even though he is correct in loyalty issues is that a right way to sent notice to a frnd?? do we do this to our frnd??
@@vijaysankar4358 We don't know the situations in which he did it and we don't know what happened in the background. We don't know how long he did a proper friendly approach and then he decided to do this. It could be the media twisting things for their bias or for rating. He has done so much for his friends (watch his other interviews and interviews of others about him) so he would have sent legal notice as the last resort.
@@vijaysankar4358 SPB was not singing for free - tickets were like 250 USD. Moreover, notice was sent to the organizers of the event in the US not to SPB - but SPB made it public via FB - Raaja has never spoken a word against SPB till now - who is greater? you judge...
+S Rangarajan Even SPB sir dint spoke anything worse abt isaignani even after sending legal notice by his beloved frnd SPB is more better than illayaraja in handling this issue... s of course SPB is getting money for singing but can anyone say loyalty belongs only to music director... singers voice, lyricist poetic words even picturization makes a song popular we can see that in many songs.... music is a soulful art more over at d end of d day its a team work
@@vijaysankar4358 Tie the Royalty to 'creativity' which comes from 'brain' you will get this easily. Anything from Brain will need royalty. In a movie song the creativity items are situation, dance choreography, lyrics, tune and music arrangements everything else is not using brain.
Now IR is asking money for his tune and music arrangements only when it is used.
So, on a stage show it is only tune, music, and singers and for that in an IR show everyone is paid, keep in mind Singer or music players didn't use their brain (don't get smart saying they use the brain while operating their hands and vocal chord). And if it is another show like Laxman Shruthi, then they pay the singers, musicians but use IR's brain (song and music notes) when that is on the stage as an intellectual property so they have to pay the royalty to IR. I would say IR or others should pay the royalty to Lyricist also.
When the song is played in FM or in an event where money is collected for the exhibition of song, then royalty has to go to IR, Singers can't claim but they are trying to also.
If the song is played in a visual medium then the producer of the movie, choreographer, director, lyricist will come into play along with IR.
IR can easily run his show with a totally different lyrics and a different emotion with different singers then he doesn't have to pay any one other than the people on stage. People will flock this show since at the end it is only the Tune and Music Arrangements that carry the whole song. A good singer and a decent lyrics is all he needs. Our IR has clearly stated in different stages that tune and music can covert a bad meaningless lyrics to a great lyrics. I can give tons of examples for this.

கவனிக்கப்படாத பாடல்கள் பற்றியது நல்ல கேள்வி!! இவர் இசையமைத்து அந்த சமயத்தில் காணாமல் போன பாடல்கள், எப்படி இருந்தாலும் வெளி வந்தே தீரும். அது மட்டும் இல்லாமல் அது சிறந்த பாடல்கலைகளாகவும் எப்போதும் இருக்கும். மற்ற இசை அமைப்பாளர்களின் பாடல்கள் வந்தவுடன் பெரிய சத்தங்களை ஏற்படுத்தி இருந்தாலும், அவை அனைத்தும் இருந்த இடம் தெரியாமல் போய்விடும். அதுதான் இசைஞானியின் இசைக்கும் மற்ற இசைக்கும் உள்ள வேறுபாடு!!!

..Readers may wonder why he talks like this...what he refers to..
During his early years he used to assemble instrumentalists and make them practice during weekend holidays ...he used to compose specially for these practice sessions ...
In later years he could not continue as he was doing daily recordings round the year.. and further years down the line new technologies came ...
He was very passionate about quality playing of instrumentalists ....
That's why he laments about today's loop technology...where fir a sustained five minute playing it is enough if they play for 30 seconds .. it gets looped for entire song...
This reduces the consistency and stamina of players ...and they struggle when they come to perform live shows...they hv to practice hard ..
Again in stage shows he does not use padding technique ...where the live playing of instrumentalists on a stage is backed a programmed feed in the background...for eg.. if drummer has to play a same rhythm for few minutes continuously ...alk his beats may not be uniform unless practiced... the hand may nit give the same power..punch or sustain in all beats.. to cover this inconsistency padding back up comes in....
He feels these techniques lower instrumentalists quality.
