In an interview Ricky Gervais said that when he agreed to do this, he had a choice; write for the people there or for the people at home watching it. He explained that he was in no mood to stroke the egos in the room who were all privileged Hollywood types so he wrote for the people at home, not that rich really, who would love seeing the rich and famous being taken down a few pegs. He fuquing nailed it!

IMO when he says actors don't know anything about the real world & not to lecture the public, he means they aren't worrying about the cost of gas, keeping groceries in the kitchen, avoiding homelessness. The economy isn't crushing them, they travel, & have the best of everything at their fingertips. They have no idea what it actually feels like to be a normal citizen in our current socioeconomic climate. So take your award, offer thanks, and get off the stage.
He is also on about them complaining about global warming, and jetting around in private planes at the same time, and all moral pandering they do, whilst working for companies that exploit poor people in poor countries
Yeah, I think that is it and it is true aswell. During lockdown some people protested in front of a burger restaurant because they wanted it to open again so that they could work there again. And Patton Oswald, the comedian, bashed them for it. He thought they wanted it open to eat there. And he basically said that they should be happy, just stay home, stream netflix, order food, live the good life. That dude is so far removed from reality that he didn't comprehend that normal people were at risk of losing everything. He flat out did not understand that if an ordinary person can't work, they can't just sit around, order food and stare into the TV. He knows nothing of the real world.

They really do have no clue what goes on in the real world because everywhere they go, they are treated as celebrities... even bin laden watched Hollywood movies and would treat celebrities as such.

The only one who should've been getting an award that night was Ricky Gervais himself for being the real deal and speaking the truth and for putting up with all that lot. I only watched those cringy awards because of him.

Remember when I was a kid all the adults said if you go to jail you'll make license plates but never be able to drive, or make trash cans and the work if you were good n lucky.

Ricky Gervais created The original "The Office." His comedy is amazing and he's one of those few comedians that somehow pulls it all together to create amazing material. Just so smart.
His recent work kind of misses for me, but his older stuff was all golden.
The video of him messing with Steve Carrell constantly is a must watch.
The "donate to Australia" at the end referes to the fact that Australia was going through a terrible fire season at the time, with a lot of people losing their homes, etc.

That’s the point about an honest man telling you the truth he can look you in the eye, but if he’d lied about you you could sue him……This was a revelation to people who are normally protected from what’s going on by money, power, racists, bigots and yes men, Ricky was the hero of the moment for any man or woman who has been made to screw just to be in a movie, and those who have been treated like dogs by a fake industry criminal dishonesty being called out.

He's also an amazing human - I work for an animal welfare charity and he champions SO MANY campaigns to help animals in need💕One tweet from Ricky really makes a massive difference to stop animal cruelty and raise awareness. Ricky & his partner Jane, volunteer at animal shelters in their spare time - he even ends his stand up shows thanking people for supporting animal causes. MORE PEOPLE NEED TO BE LIKE RICKY! #LEGEND

He definitely helped further expose Weinstein and others (can't recall their names at this moment). There's a movie called She Said about it that I just happened to watch a couple of days ago.
What I was referring to in my post was the documentary film called Farrow vs Allen.
The Harvey Weinstein joke was the best! They were so offended, and groaned out loud about it. Then to tell them "You guys did it, not me" was great!

He created some great TV series, including the original British, The Office, Extras, a Hilarious, series about being an extra in movies featuring some great actors, including Kate, Winslet and David Bowie, and Patrick Stewart, then Derek , about an old folks where he plays a meek and caring man who works there, and After Life, where he plays a widower trying to continue living after his wife passes away. He Himself has been in a long-term relationship for decades. He is multi talented and calls out the bullshit that is infecting our world. Love him.
