- Wild fires hit New Mexico, USA todsy, on May 17th 2022.
The Calf Canyon/Hermit's Peak fire, near Santa Fe, has become the largest fire in New Mexico's history, burning around 300,000 acres of wild land.
The fire has been burning for over a month, and is the largest wild fire in the USA this year, nearing homes in the city of Las Vegas.
Evacuation orders are in place, as high winds and dry conditions cause the fire to spread rapidly.
Emergency services are struggling to contain the fire as hot weather continues in the area. Authorities are monitoring the situation as it develops.

We are in Raton NM. Within 50ish miles from the fire. Our Dentist's staff in Angel Fire has over 50 dispursed people on their property at this moment. THANK YOU ANGEL FIRE DENTISTRY!!!! We have purchased a home filtration system as the smoke is so bad here. PRAYERS AND RAIN FOR ALL

dry stressed pinion and sagebrush are excellent fire food, good luck getting control of that fire. we came home from Elephant Butte Lake and the Piedra Lisa spring canyon was on fire on the west face of the Sandia Mountains, it looked like a volcano going off. years later the burned out forest was still standing with little new growth.
