    This new direction with adding the car stuff is right up my alley. My dads first job in college was as a mechanic for 4 years. The man has never taken a car to a mechanic his whole life. Since then he has been a software engineer at IBM. I grew up changing head gaskets and clutches on Saturday and learning basic and java on Sunday.

    Jay, the flywheel is sprung weight, and more importantly, it's rotating weight.
    The difference between sprung and unsprung weight is that unsprung weight is not supported by the suspension in the car. Pretty well all of the suspension, wheels and tires are all unsprung, and everything else is sprung, that's an easy way to remember it. One of the goals in motorsports is to reduce unsprung and rotating weight.

Its quite exciting to be subscribed to two different channels with completely different content and still have both of them within each others videos for example beng subbed to Jayztwocents for a long time and being subbed to ScottandKerryann for a little less and thinking they could never possibly be within each others video and yet that exactly happens at a simple visit to the garage

    Seems like building computers and building cars/trucks goes hand in hand. I've been working on cars, mainly DSMs (Eclipses, Talons, and Lasers) for several years and I just recently got into building computers even though I've always wanted to get into it more. But with the latest generation of consoles really blowing I final took the plunge and bough a gaming PC. Your's and Linus's RUclips channels have really helped my understand what I'm doing and references to cars are very helpful too since I understand those a lot better as of right now. So thank you and keep the car stuff coming with the awesome tech!

    I LOVE the idea of this orange build. Personally, I'd take it a bit further and add some more warm tones as highlights, yellows and reds. Maybe incorporate other materials too. Might be interesting to cut up orange and yellow reflective tape or cloth and use NZXT's new hue LED kit to light it up. Subtle highlights that pop! :D

    For future reference VHT do anodized effect paint, it is a very thin and watery paint so runs are difficult to avoid but the result is that the paint is translucent meaning if you have a brushed metal surface you'll be able to see the brushed metal through the paint this also includes writing as well, the currant colours are blue, red, purple and grey (it's that weird grey that you only get from anodizing). You can also try searching transparent spray paint but it sort of hit n' miss.

    I think a good idea for companies that manufacture water cooling parts is to add a flow regulator into their blocks. That'll really help with diagnostics and you'll be able to find out whether your flow is being impaired and by how much.

    im a big fan of the car stuff. any time you want to toss it in a video i dont mind at all.
    one thing i never understood is people making a big deal about low mounted intakes. on my gencoupe i had an injen CAI mounted right in front of the wheel and never had any issues. i live in toronto canada (so a decent amount of rain) and in rain or snow no issues at all. one downside to that was the smaller wiper fluid bottle though (salt in winters blows). i personally prefer the intake sounds over those of exhaust (especially on turbos). that darth vader like woosh is like music. the intake sounds a just so much more subtle and less annoying than exhaust.
    oh and one thing i think would be really interesting on the channel would be some sort of artistic hard tube watercooling. maybe something like coiled or helix tube bends or something. i have wanted to do something like that on my own PC but i just dont have the room in my current case for it.

    How much extra in labor did this video and the questions to the mechanic end up costing you, seeing how they charge by the hour for the service in most cases? Maybe they were cool and didn't sock you being your a regular and promoting them and their channels, I hope anyway. Cool seeing this view of behind the scenes of maintaining the ride.

      +JayzTwoCents Hey Jayz. Sorry for this subcomment being a little off topic for this head-comment, but watching this video, a question came to my mind; in previous videos you said you hated your desk to be messy, in this vid you said you like when it's a bit messy.. Which is it going to be? ;-) xP My guess is that the answer is; you like it messy when working on a project, and neat when not? :)

      +SuperBigDog2U Usually, mechanics get paid for the number of hours a job *should* take, not what it *does* take. If a mechanic does a job quickly (and correctly, since they don't get paid again if the car comes back), he can get onto another job, and make more hours worth of money without actually having worked that long. The reverse is also true-- if a guy takes 2 hours to do a 1 hour job, he's still getting paid for only 1 hour.

    I really am enjoying car vlogs Jay. I understand you aren't a car youtube channel but having that every once in a while really is quite interesting, especially since I drive a 370z too :). Do you plan to have other modifications done to it like forced induction or are you planning to keep it NA. I am not sure how the laws of emissions would apply to forced induction in CA.

    • @scottvanderheide
      @scottvanderheide 8 лет назад +1

      +Allen Jou the laws here in CA are pretty strict...but there are C.A.R.B. approved supercharger kits for the 370z like the Stillen kit...although i've yet to see a turbo kit that is legal here.

    • @juntoe
      @juntoe 8 лет назад +1

      Ah I see. Well that is quite unfortunate and I have heard many not so great things about the Stillen kit so I don't think it would be as good. Though, if you really want to go forced induction I guess there is no other choice. Thanks for the insight.

    • @scottvanderheide
      @scottvanderheide 8 лет назад +1

      The Stillen kit is pretty good...uses the Vortech Supercharger...we've installed a few of these kits and haven't had any come back with issues! ;)

    • @juntoe
      @juntoe 8 лет назад +1

      +ScottandKerryann Hmm then I am not sure what they complained about then. Vortech is a well known brand of superchargers... Unless it was other components in the kit they did not like.

    • @scottvanderheide
      @scottvanderheide 8 лет назад +1

      Personally i'm a fan of turbocharging...but for a street car and for someone that isn't trying to compete and doesn't care about winning trophies...the Supercharger kit is a much more sensible decision...linear power band, super reliable, and street legal (in California)

    oh man. I hate to be "that guy", but mass in the flywheel is not unsprung mass. Unsprung mass is exclusively mass that is outboard of the dampers (like knuckles, wheels and tires, control arms (sorta), brakes, etc.) and it impacts suspension performance. Reducing mass in the drivetrain is also important (less rotational inertia means more angular acceleration per torque) but it doesn't impact suspension, it impacts drivetrain performance... I'm sure he knows all this and just misspoke, but people misuse the term "unsprung mass" so often that it gets to be like nails on a chalkboard.

      +ScottandKerryann 15:00 You, Scott, don't seem to understand the concepts of under and oversteer: In a FWD, 'stay on the throttle and let it pull you out'.

    I think the loop for that board is gonna be a tough one to work on. Good luck and hope you can get the right look for the bends.

    I know this would be expensive, but the next best thing to anodizing would probably be powder-coating the metal.

    This will take longer, but you should polish your acrylic so the fluid pops out more.

    I used to have a 350z too but traded it in for a subaru xv crosstrek since that works better in the snow up here in the northwest. I did test drive a 370z during my ownership of my 350z but didn't notice that large of a difference between the 2 to upgrade, and I couldn't afford the higher payment. Now that we, my wife and I, have a good all weather non extreme offroad car I'm looking at getting another sports car, maybe. What would you have gone with if not a Z car or what vehicles were on your list when you were shopping?

    Just gunna put this idea out there .. but what if you paint your Skunkworks case in a crazy metal flake burnt orange? I don't mind the car stuff Jay. Those water blocks look like a nightmare to plumb up being so close together. I'm wondering how close your top GPU is going to be to the chipset block fittings.
