Hi Michael! My daughter (11) and I (also introverts) absolutely love watching your videos. We are in Perth WA. We are a new member of Josie’s channel too.
I wanted to comment on another of your videos about the succulent Chinese meal 😂😂.
Keep doing what your doing, we love all your content and really appreciate it.
My daughter wakes up every morning asking if Michael or Josie have posted 😊😊
I love knowing that I can put you and Josie’s videos on knowing that it’s “safe” and my daughter and I can watch it together. It’s super appreciated.
I also wanted to mention that you and Josie often talk about the video not going well when Josie’s drone got lost, just wanted to let you know that’s the video that got us hooked on watching you both!! So it wasn’t all bad!!

Don’t mind the staring… it’s probably 20% you being a foreigner, 20% being a big fella, and 60% extra being both…lol. Let me tell you a story. I was there some years ago, and was going to some high altitude place, and in need of some xxl size clothes. I went to that Uniqlo flagship store, and they told me in the whole of south west provinces in China., there is no size bigger than xl readily available. and my XXL is likely just an L in Aussie. Yunnan is a very versatile and beautiful place, and very very much worth exploring. I can guarantee you will be amazed. Have fun in China.

Haha yeah after 40 odd countries, probably half of those as a fat big guy (previously as a gym big guy) I can tell why I’m interesting to them - but staring is just always so different for me haha. To be fair, China has nothing on Bangladesh stares.
Yeah - I was so surprised I found a hoodie that fit! Decathalon had good sizing for me actually

    • @ivyshy98
      @ivyshy98 3 месяца назад

nah most chinese do not judge people like that so your size, shape, skin color, clothing, etc doesn't matter. it's mostly because they don't have exposure to foreigners and get deer in headlights syndrome lol. if you stay in china enough you will realize people just don't care that much what other people do. you also have to realize chinese do not normally just talk to strangers on the street so it's compounded by the fact that you are a foreigner and they get dumbstruck. if you break the ice with a ni hao and smile, you will realize most people will be happy to try to talk to you or help if you need.

You and Josie should spend more time there, at least go the stone forest outside of kunming (0.5 hour train or 1 hour drive), it is insane. I can guess you guys are heading to Li jiang, you miss Dali. Me and my partner like Dali more than Lijiang. Good Luck on Jade Dragon mountain, we went there on a terrible weather day. Please please don’t mind the stare though I know it is annoying because we got stared at also and we are overseas Asian. But if you say Nihao to them they would give you the biggest widest smiles. It’s curiosity not hostility, rest assured. Kunming is known as the “spring city” for its mild temperature all year round. Enjoy your trips in China.

A little tip: when buying snacks from a roadside stand, it's best to choose freshly made food. For example, baozi (and other steamed pastries) at 8:05 are obviously leftovers from the morning batch that didn't sell. These have been sitting out for a while and won't taste as good. I recommend getting them in the morning.😂

It’s Chinese chess or Xiangqi 象棋. It is one of the more popular board games in China (also played elsewhere in east and south east Asia) where you have pieces similar to English chess. There is a square fort in the middle where the king lives guarded on either side by bishops. These are then flanked by elephant cataphracts, horse Calvary and chariots. There are pawns on the first defense line followed by two cannon pieces. The game is a bit different to the other chess game that is played called 围棋 or Go in Japanese where the pieces are just black and white

haha no sure if this applies to you but, I’m an introvert too, extremely introverted I’d say. Every time I go in public I’d hope there’s no public attention on me. I’d think twice about how I dress and constantly being aware of my surroundings and people passing me whether they are paying attention to my outfit, my look, my action and so forth. Most of the time it’s a subconscious mental activity that’s taking place in my head. So when you mention the staring, I’m instantly reminded of my own mental process when in public. I’d assume I’d be equally annoyed or even worse in your scenarios. But hay, not that much of a big deal right? It’s totally okay to express your true genuine feelings. I crying I can feel you man. This city was a key war supplies distribution city during WWII. As the Japanese took all the sea port cities, weapons and ammunition came into China through the mountain pass and the airport was used to fly supplies to the rest of the fronts. It was also the base of the Flying Tiger that was a major threat to the Japanese Air Force. Due to its geographical features, the Japanese Air Force was not very successful in penetrating into the area, but it was not impossible. They did a few successful air raids that did kill many civilians.
Yes, that game was “Chinese Chess”. It has similar “characters” as Chess, but very different in strategy and how the different characters can move.

she said "lu" for 6, which sounds like "wu" for 5 because of her accent. usually 6 should be "liu", not "lu" in mandarin.

geezes, the weather looks beautiful in Kunming. In June 2024, we were in Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing and Chongqing. Beijing's weather was sunny and fresh air. The other cities rained every other day. Regardless the 4 cities were beautiful and clean. However, the Beijing party district had lots of trash on Friday and Saturday night but it was cleaned up the next morning. The number #1 priority was safety and we felt really safe, even in the darkest alley-way. @3:34, we are SE Asian (Cambodian/American). We had a few stares, especially in Guangzhou and Chongqing, but the moment you say "Nihao" they all smile. The stare was likely because of their curiosity. There was one incident where two ragged dark-skin middle-aged men pointed and laughed at my son. My son is 189 cm tall about 100 kg, dark-skin, long curly hair. He looks very islander/Samoan. On the positive side of this subject, my son had many people come up to him asking "Where from" and chatted, wanted to practice their English, and just walked with him. China has a population of 1.4 billion people. So obviously we did not expect everyone to react the same to us. Overall, the people the very kind and are very helpful. My son is already missing China and wants to go back and so do we. Putting Kunming on our list. Thank you and subscribed. Looking forward to more of your China vlog.

Michael is great! thank you and Joise for showing the real china to the world!
The urbanization process in China has been well promoted, but many ancient buildings have still been preserved and many ancient style buildings have been rebuilt. You can see the integration and intersection of modern infrastructure and ancient civilization

the older people are playing chess in the park. It's quite similar to int'l chess. The middle is the king bot without a queen. At the far left and far right are two cars車,only run on straight line, next to 車 are a pair of horses馬,can only run by one step plus one step at 45 degree. The king can't leave his palace, protected by two 仕 and two elephants象. hope this help.
