  • In this video we talk about the logline, and why it's good to have one, and how AI can help authors craft them about their own novels, or use them to come up with interesting topics for future books.

    Here’s my favorite Logline formula:
When the [Main Character] suffers [Inciting Incident], they must [Achieve Goal] before [Stakes].
    Examples:
Jaws (1975): When the new sheriff of a seaside town discovers a monstrous shark terrorizing the waters, he must conquer his own fears and hunt it down before the creature turns the summer beach into a feeding ground.
Die Hard (1988): When an off-duty NYPD officer gets trapped in a high-rise during a terrorist takeover on Christmas Eve, he must outsmart and combat the criminals to save his wife and the other hostages before his cover is blown.
The Matrix (1999): When a computer hacker learns his entire life is a simulated reality controlled by sentient machines, he must join the underground resistance and fight to free humanity before he’s silenced by the agents of the system.

Just started exploring the idea of AI as a writing tool and a couple videos deep (Subscribed) in content you've provided and wanted to thank you for your work.
    Also, super sick logo!

Using the following template and knowledge of the logline -
Someone (the protagonist) wants something (the story goal) and goes after it against great odds and/or obstacles (the antagonist and the conflict).

I like that Save the Cat displays the various beat sheets and other writing elements for various well known movies.

Love your work! I have an issue, I can't seem to stop any of the AI models referencing the beats when writing such as "this moment of realization serves as a catalyst, sparking a deeper exploration of how these ancient teachings can be applied to modern life and personal growth"
    any tips to avoid this?

Honestly in my experience, Gemini gives the best loglines without even needing a template. For brainstorming tasks in my personal experience, Gemini is the most creative with even over Claude 3 Opus. This is only for brainstorming.

Jason, have you tried your techniques with Microsoft's Copilot A.I.?

While I like Sudo Write I am finding that I like to write or rather generate ideas in Claude then move it over to Sudo. I am writing two books. "Killing America" (11 chapters done) Apocalyptic series which is intertwined with "Fall Of A Nation". At some point the characters in both books will meet and conclude the three book series.
Now I just need some Kick ... butt? :D cover art.

Save the Cat can be repetitive if you use it too much, but I think it can be good for character development stories.

Is it repetitive since literally every Oscar winning film and super blockbuster are using it? It’s not a formula, it’s a description of the DNA of stories that have resonated with humans for millennia.

You couldn't do another live stream series, but this time dedicating it to only using one AI like Gemini are chat GPT. Not a full length novel, maybe just a short story or something. I just want to see the techniques that would be needed in action. If it's possible.

If something already exists doing this and you're aware of it, could you point me in the right direction? If you're not interested in producing this content,🙂😉

OH MY GOD! Is this 2005??? Save The Cat is UTTER CRAP. It's the single biggest reason so many 'screenwriters' write UTTER CRAP.

You’re saying every award winning film is crap? Because everyone of them hit the beats just about perfectly.

Yeah, and "Save the Cat Goes to the Indies" showed me that the Save the Cat beat sheet can be very flexible. You don't have to follow what mainstream Hollywood dictates when it comes to that.
