Literally just bought same oil and filter Tuesday because I'm going to change oil Saturday. Gotta love that bottom panel and all hardware associated with it. Currently at 65,000 miles on my baby.

116k and running strong . I've tried pensoil ultra platinum . Seems like after switching to Nissan ester the engine seemed the same at first, I do believe the engine feels smoother after the oil bonded?? Who knows , I noticed a 1 mpg bump in fuel economy and no tick and at high rpm it seems smoother with the Nissan oil . I'm going to go back to pensoil ultra platinum after 10k of nissan oil use and see if I notice any difference

80k miles now and much has changed. New rotors and pads, swaybars, strut brace, motordyne test pipes with tune from SOHO. Can't say mpg has gotten better lol 340whp just begs to be played with. Now I need new tires. Yokohama S Drives lasted about 2 1/2 years. Might try Continental performance tires next? Needs atleast 285 on rears. 275 exposes just a hair too much rim for me. I'm OCD when it comes to flush look.

Castrol edge syn titanium technology. Never going back to mobile1. Kn hp1010 filter only cause I like the wrench off and it doesn't do bad. However they seem to be cheapening the same number over the years. first design was heavy stamped plate with metal insert and higher quality synthetic orange rubber for the drain back valve. Now its plastic insert inside with standard drain back rubber and standard plate. 🙄

I have a 2019 370Z sport coupe 6MT that's hitting 36K miles and the only oil I've used in it is the Nissan Ester oil(NEO) and the Fram ultra synthetic filter, changed at 3K mile intervals. I broke the car in very gently over a prolonged time and did three early oil changes to flush out all engine break in debris. Up until 15K miles the engine used about 3 to 4 oz of oil at the 3K mile point. After that the engine was fully broken in and it now uses no discernable amount of oil on the dipstick at 3K mile intervals. My engine is quiet and there is virtually no accumulation of soot or any other residue on the insides of my polished stainless steel exhaust tips.
Nissan engineers did research in the early 2000s to find a way to reduce sliding bearing friction in their engines as much as possible. What they came up with was something called a hydrogen-free DLC(diamond like carbon) coating used with a special oil that had a high content of molybdenum with a small amount of an ester additive that, together, resulted in coefficients of sliding friction on metal surfaces that were very close to that of roller or needle bearings. This coating was applied to pieces of the VVEL intake valve train mechanism in the VQ37VHR where there are points of high contact stress along with the generation of high local heating. The coating was also applied to the piston skirts to reduce sliding friction, along with lower tension rings.
NEO is a highly refined conventional base stock oil with a small amount of ester. It was discovered that the more ester they put in the oil the lower the sliding friction but there was a problem with the fact that the ester attracted water, which would degrade the oil. Since water vapor is one of the principal byproducts of hydrocarbon combustion, engine oil is exposed to a lot of water. The small amount of ester they put in NEO is a compromise between lowest friction possible and reduction of water degradation. The recommended oil change interval in the VQ engine is a relatively short 3750 miles for this reason, and others.
What I have discovered in reading used oil analyses on this engine in 370Zs and G37s with NEO is that there is a consistent shearing down of the 30 weight hot viscosity at about the 3K mile point where the oil essentially becomes a 5W-20, having started as a 5W-30. It is for this reason that I do my oil changes at 3K miles, plus the oil is usually starting to darken by then. This engine is very hard on oil because of that VVEL mechanism and so it runs the oil hot, shortening the life as its VI improvers get sheared down. If you run a good full synthetic you could probably get away with running it longer before having viscosity breakdown. I wish that I could get an oil with a better fully synthetic base stock, like a polyol ester, with the high molybdenum content. I would consider the Redline oils a good candidate for this, but they are also expensive. I used to use Redline exclusively in a Porsche I used to own and I do like their products.
Mostly because of the VVEL mechanism, this engine maintains a high volumetric efficiency across the rev range and a corresponding nearly flat torque curve, something we all love. The price we pay is the high operating oil temps and a shorter service life for the oil, with the higher cost of using NEO if we want to maintain that DLC coating on the engine's internal surfaces.

@@dailyg2719 Other than my experience with it on my motorcycles many years ago, as a very good motor oil, I really can't say anything as to how it compares with other modern leading brands. I would hazard a guess that it is at least as good as the better synthetics offered by Penzoil, Valvoline or Mobil 1.
My choice for a high-performance engine would be either Redline or Motul, pricey but excellent oils. I run Motul gear oil in my gear box and diff and really like it. I've used Redline in a Porsche that I owned and liked it very much. Both of these oils use a polyol ester base stock that resists thermal breakdown very well and provide good upper cylinder lubrication.
I only use the Nissan ester oil because it was specially formulated to meet the severe lubrication requirements of the intake valve train. I hope this is helpful.

If you look at videos on oil filters Fram is cardboard inside. I used Frams for years but after seeing the videos they are the most cheaply made of any filter I've seen tested. Wix XP is probably the best filter...construction and the filtering of the media. However they're hard to find for the Q50 3.7. Ordering on line isn't always the best either. I did that before and they put the filter and box in an envelope and shipped it. The filter came dented. Probably didn't hurt it but when you pay top dollar for a filter you don't want it dented. I often use a Mobil One filter. They're good and easy to get. $10 at Walmart. Also Pennz Oil Platinum Synthetic is $21 at Walmart and tested 2nd best I think after Amsoil which I believe is 3x the price.

Switched to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w-30 with Purolator Boss filter and no start up noise what so ever. Has 5000 miles currently, no top off. Use the filter for the 5.6L v8 it is 1.25 inches longer, same base. Car has 78,000 mi.. The ester oil is a blend I believe, breaks down quickly. The regular Platinum would be fine too. Walmart $22.00/ Gal.. I wonder how good the anti drain back valve is on some filters??

Great info on the larger filter. I like the idea of adding slightly more volume a little more filter surface area. Not sure if that minor increase has a major impact but it can’t hurt.
Interesting how people have different experiences with the same product in the same engine. First oil change was at the dealer because I had warranty left. Ticked like crazy and I hated it. Went to Mobil 1 and no tick. Car is silent!

@@SpeedCultureStudios The regular filter is the same size I use on my ST1300 motorcycle?LOL. I figure the more size increase the better. Also, the larger size is usually cheaper as it is the 2.4L Honda filter. Boss filter is very robust and 100% synthetic filter media not a mix with paper. True 15,000 filter. So, I would not change every time. Depending on your drain intervals.
