like any other award there is selection and criteria committee for this award also, they will surely think on it. Recently in 2023 suman ji got padm bhushan award, already she got padm vibhushan and lata mangeshkar award in 2008. To get dada saheb phalke award , as per my knowledge , need the film career as life long means more than 40 years. Suman ji quit film playback music by her own and her career was of 20 years approx.

I grade Sumanji and Lataji equal marks. Sumanji is not even less one percent than Lataji. Sumanji is deserving not less than Padmabibhusan award. Govt is requested to give her Padmabibhusan award immediately. Wishing her healthy long spiritual life.

After having lost her father at the age of 12, she had to earn living for her family by working in a male-dominated society! Notwithstanding the trials and tribulations, she carved a niche for herself, so much so, that she is the benchmark in vocal music!
That apart, MS received first Bharataratna in vocal music and there are many singers who have received as high as Padma Vibhushana awards, so Lataji need not be singled out as far as awards are concerned! Perhaps you may not be aware that southern fans are demanding Bharataratna for S Janaki who has not sung a single song in Bengali, Bhojpuri, Gujarati, Punjabi, Marathi and Dogra languages!

All along everyone knew that there was controversy between the choice of Lataji and Ashaji, Sumanji's name was unheard! CR roped Ashaji for this song and rehearsals started since there were differences of opinion between he and Lataji and the latter had stopped singing for him! However, Kavi Pradeep was keen on using only Lataji's voice! So it became his responsibility to convince Lataji, which he successfully carried out! Sumanji was nowhere in the scene! Whenever, Lataji receives some honour, we hear such charges from lesser-known singers!

Both of them ( Lata ji and Suman ji) are having melidous voice they even sang together in mangu movie. Suman her voice is sweet, eternal and melodious and lulabies, devotional and sweet type of songs were perfect for her and Lataji her voice is sweet and melodious but her singing has expression like smiling(Tune o rangeele), laughing, sweet argument(bahoon mein chale aa , etc) etc. Latajis voice was expressive due to which md and actresses made her 1st choice.

With a stunning resemblance to Lataji’s voice, Sumanji’s rendering had the sweetness that could match the best of the singers of her genre. Yet, the fact that she did not get the due credit credit for her outstanding contribution to music defies reasonable logic. I am a big fan of hers and revere her as much as I do for Lataji and Ashaji. God bless Sumanji with good health and may she live long.

Mangala Khadilkarji is a good interviewer. Suman Kalyanpurji is a good singer. Her voice is similar to Lata Mangeshkarji. So the public gets confused. Singing like Lataji is a big compliment in itself.

Sometimes I get confused Suman ji as Lataji. Sumanji - Rafi Sahab hits like "Raat Suhani Jaag rahi hai', "Dil ne phir yaad kiya" (With Rafi Sahab and Mukesh Ji) are extra ordinary songs. Her songs really stood test of time.
this is true...........but those who are good listeners, they can find difference.....if you are true music lover then please listen these three songs 1) mere khwabome jo aaye , aake muze chhed jaaye (film - andaaz 1947) 2) aaja aayi bahaar dil hai (film rajkumar 1964) 3) mere khwabome jo aaye, aake muze chhed jaaye (film - DDLJ 1994) all three songs are sung by lataji and there is gap of around 40 years from 1947 to 1994 . enjoy these songs and plzzzzzzzzzzzzz compare the first and third song's voice with sumanj's voice

Suman Kalyanpur ji is a very melodious & talented singer. But it's unfortunate to always compare her with Lata ji. Composers of those days were legendary & they knew the calibre of each singer. Lata ji has been praised by all knowledgeable music legends. Even by bade Ghulam Ali Khan sahab, who's considered the biggest classical vocalist. We, as Indians, should be proud of her & hold her in high esteem. She is a perfect singer. No one could match her in either voice or singing. Period.

Juhi ki Kali MERI ladli, and many duets with SJ come to mind. Gujarati song Kumkum na pagla padya is so sweetly installed in my memory. I can think of hundreds of Sumanji melodies from the 60s. She is such a sweet person with a matching voice. Namaskar to Sumanji.
Lata spoiled her career that is what people of those era say. Even Lata had a fight with KA (Kalyanji Anandji) because KA had many songs in which she sang for them.

If your love of Suman ji requires you to hate other legendary singers like Lata ji, then you're toxic. I recommend you to watch and read more interviews of Suman ji to understand her deep respect and love for Lata ji, who never interfered with Suman ji's career. In fact when Lata ji was unable to sing some songs due to prior commitments, she recommended the music directors to approach Suman ji. When lata ji first heard suman ji in a recording studio, she personally greeted suman and congratulated her. Suman ji herself stated this and spoke so highly about Lata ji. Suman ji even stated that the reason she withdrew from bollywood was to look after her family. The hatred that some people have for lata ji simply because they are fans of suman ji is absolutely ridiculous. Just another example of how one woman is pitted against another in popular culture, despite the fact that the 2 women in particular actually like and respect each other in real life and have zero apathy towards each other. This Fandom is toxic.

I really feel Sumanji is very underrated singer. She has a very sweet voice and even at this stage, she sings beautifully. It’s unfortunate she was not given more attention and chances to sing in the Hindi films.In my opinion she could have easily surpassed Lataji if given a chance.
