This is in my opinion one of the most deserving win of this year's Oscar. Love all the nominees but Women Talking is truly the best, poetic writing from Sarah and I'm so happy that she won the Oscar. And I'm surprised how loud the cheer was when her name was announced the winner, so happy for that and I love the hug that she got from Jessie Buckley, Rooney Mara and Sheila McCarthy, had to reply it many times because I love the solidarity of this team. Congrats to Sarah 👏

I grew up knowing Sarah Polley as Sara Stanley in "Road to Avonlea" who, by the time the series ended, had decided that she wanted to pursue a career as a writer, forgoing societal convention. There is a poignancy in watching Sarah Polley in adulthood step away from the fame she could have had as an actress in order to pursue a career that made her more fulfilled, and then see her excellence recognized in the field that she chose. She may have been unhappy in her time as a child star, but I think she's now living a life that Sara Stanley would have been extremely proud of.

How would that make sense when the movie shits all over them. It makes them seem monstrous when in reality, only a fraction of a fraction of the men of the community committed SA against women, and once the other men found out who they were, they acted swiftly to have them removed from the community and handed over to authorities. This movie makes it seem like all the males of the community were trained to commit acts of violence and sexual abuse against the women.

All Quiet should have won this. The way that movie could convey the horrors and chaos of war sometimes without dialogue is astonishing. Take for instance the scene with the uniforms of the dead being cleaned up and repaired to give to the next batch of recruits. There isn't a moment of dialogue in that entire sequence yet it immaculately conveyed the message that provisions during that war was so limited that they were basically grave robbing so to speak to make do. Then there's the trench battle sequences one of which involving tanks and flamethrowers which was essentially short hand for new threats incoming.
