Allan Moffat began his 1983 Australian Touring Car Championship hunt with this great win in 40 degree heat at Calder Park Raceway. Allan's right hand drive #43 Mazda RX-7 endured the arid conditions as other cars fell by the wayside.
The folly in the point system was exposed at the first round at Calder when Moffat won the race from Fury, but Fury actually led the championship by finishing second outright in a smaller capacity car (Moffat scored 25 for winning while Fury scored 27 for finishing second). When Fury took the lead for a brief time at Calder, it was the first time that a turbo powered car had led an ATCC race.

    Hi Super100MPH viewers.
As you may have noticed we have recently been
looking again at some of our older video posts.
Some are over 6 years old!
We have started remastering some of these races
    from the original VHS files.
We think there is a marked improvement in quality.
This video tape is, after all, now 35 years old.
We hope young and old alike will enjoy the content.
All the best, from Mark & Tim.

The late Mike Raymond never truly liked the turbo's, he just put up with them because they were there. But he was old school and came from a speedway background and so he loved the big V8's. To his credit he never said any different and was one of the leading advocates for when the V8's replaced Group A ten years after this race in 1993.

Moffat's control under brakes is mental.

Hi Adrian. not as many as you might think. Plenty of admirers that's for sure. The "haters" are probably annoyed he won so often!
