    I had a friend that started a towing company and ended up doing almost nothing but high-end car dealership transfers. If you can find a niche and make yourself the go-to guy then you will be better off than the guy who runs himself ragged trying to do it all.

    It's SWEET to be in a position to be able to support yourself with that business plan. Most small businesses struggle to get enough work to stay afloat and can't afford to be choosy about the jobs they'll take.👍
    And no matter what you say about being the worst tow company, it is very clear that you care about your customers and always go the extra mile to do the right thing for them and also to prevent damage to their vehicles.
    Can't wait to see the snow machine in action!

      you go out of business if you work for motor clubs. drove for 13 years in the Orlando area. motor clubs run you ragged and don't pay crap. When I was in Kissimee, Fl. They (AAA) $11.00 + mileage to the truck for a call You had to rely on 200 tire changes and jump starts a day just to float by. and when I had to pay a driver 25%. no money to be made and don't get me started on fuel cost....

    I enjoy the off-road part, but I have found that roadside assistance is a big part of what I do. I do it on my terms though. They call up and offer $25 for a jumpstart. I counteroffer, and they usually go with it. We have driven 150 miles to do a jumpstart 3 blocks from another company. Weird business.

    When I first started my tow company, I took any and all work with the exception of repossession work. If someone shoots at me, I'm shooting back, and it isn't worth the hassle.
    The second year in business, I dumped the auto clubs, as the only work I got from them was very late night, rainy nights, or cold weather hot shots, that their preferred companies didn't want to respond to for $14 (the price at the time). Plus it's difficult to keep drivers that earn 50% of the call for night time work.
    We didn't have rotations, but instead were assigned an area based on your yard location. The Police tow division would evaluate response times yearly and decide if another company was needed.
    Dealerships, and large tire-stores were the bread and butter work, but heavily discounted. The good thing about that work was they paid invoices weekly, so you weren't out your money very long. There were always Gypsy tow outfits looking to undercut you, but typically ended in a large damage claim that caused the customer ill will.
    Good you've found a niche market and are sticking to what works for you.

Even though it says it’s in “2wd” Toyota has an auto 4x4 setup that acts almost like all time AWD. Almost all Toyotas that are “4WD” need to be dollied!

    Excellent policy to make sure all drive wheels are off the ground for towing. That's being professional. Many modern 4x4 are only lubricated by the rear output shaft & just because it rolls free... doesn't mean it's getting lubricated and/or not causing internal wear/damage. Same with some having vacuum hubs. Free rolling doesn't mean it's safe. a little extra work doing it right vs doing whats fast or easy eliminates bogus damage claims. :)

    • @crazeguy26
      @crazeguy26 2 года назад

      there's a pump in the transfer case the rear drive shaft has to spin for the pump to sent fluid to the bearings. if the transfer case is a manual shift you can put it in neuteul keep the transmission in park. it allow you to tow the truck home.

    • @davidwoermansr
      @davidwoermansr 2 года назад

      People are telling him picking the front and pulling the driveshaft is faster and that his aluminum dollies will melt down and aren't ment for highway speeds or long distance

    • @woody4u247
      @woody4u247 2 года назад +1

      @@davidwoermansr its not faster at all. Plus, once you pull driveline, you're supposed to replace the installation hardware ( u joint straps & bolts) many people don't.. but as a business.. it can be a point of liability because it could be argued that they stretched & failed after reinstalling. This practice is usually only done on heavy duty vehicles like semis, busses, or other class 5-8 vehicles. Drop shaft & the repair shop reinstalls them. If THEY don't use new hardware . It's their liability. But dropping shafts on light duty towing is rare. Usually only if it's going a long distance @ highway speeds. Casey has done a video doing a 600 mile tow in dollies for all the skeptics... but not every dollie manufacturer says that's ok. They limit speed & distance because those little dollie tires & bearings are spinning 1.5 to twice the speed of the tow truck wheels & many can't take that. Long distance is usually done on flatbed by most companies for that reason..
      Casey it's actually doing it the correct way.. even for a short local tow. Even if it was an older truck capable of doing it safely... the tow company doesn't know the mechanical condition of that truck..it COULD have a preexisting driveline problem & now they try to blame the tow company, even though they didn't damage it.. it's a sad world, but because so many aren't honest.. you gotta CYA ( cover your ass) & do it... but Casey is doing it correctly.

    if front wheels are not centered 100% it will pull and fight you, then there is another reason why your correct on dolleys for old school reason!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    older cars, like I pulled in old days, they had worn out steering boxes, you rope the steering wheel, yes pre-steering lock vehicles, I own several still, then pick up by rear, then vehicle goes to the left several feet into other lane, then it comes back maybe wiping out mail boxes, yeah guy drove them with totally wonn out steering & was always shuffling steering wheel to maintain straight path, so thats why I believe in the dolley method...
    I posted to another of your videos today, but I dont like the normal tow truck or roll back scene either, thats why I quit in mid 90's, but back then no towing license was required, I liked the wrecks, being on call, I like manual PTO chain drive winches, split booms to anchor truck if need to, if using wheel lift, I liked the cable lifted one from winch cable. blocking under car to use tow belt. I am a dinosaur from bygone era

      Lol.. try no keys, no wheels onto to a flat deck trailer.. never mind a roll back :P But then again most of those are going for scrap so if you dent them no biggie.

    • @gold5th
      @gold5th 2 года назад +1

      @@keeptrukin420 I almost never dent them just cause there's no need to. But use a combination of floor jack/jack-all, lift the front end up put the frame on jack stands back the trailer under it, drop the a-arms/rotors(what ever hangs lower) onto skids, jack the read end, jack stand as far back as possible, winch the trailer under the vehicle, then drop the rear onto the trailer. If it's got a smooth belly or decent frame rails to slide on without getting hung up and it's literally going for scrap I might not lift the rear and just drag it up.

    You no longer need to explain yourself to the "online warriors", An old boss used to mutter "All but 6, All but 6." I finally asked him what that meant and he told me this:
    F' em! all but 6, I need someone to carry my casket.
