Antonsen isn't that good respectively when compared to other players. It's his on court antics and lack of mental discipline that are the main issues with his games.
Shi Yuqi has already defeated stronger players than Antonsen on his way to the final, while Antonsen was fortunate with the draw to reach the final in the first place.
SYQ is the most complete player right now and seems to be getting better with age. He retained his vaunted offense and variety of shots while greatly improving his patience, endurance and defense. He will be #1 for quite a while.
What a match. The players both played well. The coaches were great. after the break, the players switched their playing style but a little pep talk with the coaches they immediately counter the opponent's strategies. Amazing.
Holy crap. That's a match SYQ will probably remember for a while, best touch he'll ever have :D that was some insane accuracy, especially around the net.
Shi Yu Qi ni kalau dia rasa mood dia okay, rasa boleh menang, memang dia top notch. Kalau dia rasa susah, dia tak nak main, kalau tak injured atau senang kalah macam tu je 😅
One of the biggest reasons SYQ is dominating the game is his backhand shot, which is exceptionally good. His footwork for backhand shots is much smoother compared to Antonsen. Antonsen and other players tend to rely on overhand forehand shots, which require more energy and additional steps to position their body on the left side of the court. Players like LCW, Taufik Hidayat, and LD are among the most talented with backhand shots, which is why they dominate the game.
Personally, I admire SYQ for coming back stronger after the Olympics. But I have to say, at least LCW made it to 3 consecutive finals in probably the golden age of men's singles.
@@priyanthaperera1037I’m a Malaysian and was a huge fan of lcw during Olympics too (didn’t watch anything else besides Olympic back then). But let’s be real, SYQ didn’t have it easy with injuries very early on in his career, and absolutely no one could stop prime Viktor from claiming gold given his form in the two Olympics won
@chintzeyang2982 Bro I'm Malaysian too, but I admit my favourite player is Lin Dan, but I still support LCW. Let me be even more real, SYQ's best chance was 2024 to win gold, won 3 S750 and 1 S1000, the clear favourite to win as Viktor wasn't in his prime anymore. He choked, simple as that. Everyone has injuries bro, even LCW and Lin Dan.
Gill the commentator remarked that SYQ lost 14 finals to LCW, which shows the gap between the current no.1 and the legends. one may argue SYQ is in his prime now and wasn't then, but SYQ came back from a long injury lay-off to his current self, which means physically he would be a bit less than his former self. he was already experienced then compared to now so I don't think that made a huge diff. plus he was always playing second fiddle to Chen Long until CL retired. To me, the quality of play in men's singles now is not where it once was. but what do I know, I'm an armchair keyboard warrior.
@@matthewgoh6705 shi yuqi just got better when he was out mind you he was the only player who was able to dominate some games vs prime momota not a single player came close to momota other than shiyuqi during 2018-19 times
If LCW'd never bee older, he would've kept winning this home tournament. Today's malaysian players are dying now! Look at those: - Lee zii jia: He always in R32 before he got injured and now he follows ng tze yong who is absent too long so that he will get out of top 10 soon - Ng tze yong: I'd consider he has retired cuz even though he comes back, his career will be short after his injury - Leong jun hao: Completely weak! He even lost to lu guangzu who is actually much more average than wang zhengming - Justin hoh: 21 years old but still failed to participate in this tournament? LCW became runner up of malaysia open 2003 and entered top 10 as he was still 21 years old. What has he been doing until he performed so bad in every previous tournaments?
Remember when Momota smashed Shi Yu Qi so badly, with such dominance that Shi threw a tantrum and retired on Momota match point? Remember when Momota utterly demolished Antonsen in the World Championships?
Some countries would only pray to have one finalist, I don't know what country you are from, but I would surely think it has less medals than china. So sit back and enjoy 😂😂
What kind of title is this ? The Olympic season is over. Its a world tour event. I remember seeing looney tunes cartoon. Imagine Elmer Fudd is confused by Bugs bunny whether it is Rabbit or Duck season.
Beating Antonsen in straight sets in the finals of two consecutive super 1000-level tournaments is just insanity. Congrats to Shi♥♥♥
