Antonsen and other players tend to rely on overhand forehand shots, which require more energy and additional steps to position their body on the left side of the court. Players like LCW, Taufik Hidayat, and LD are among the most talented with backhand shots, which is why they dominate the game.
Personally, I admire SYQ for coming back stronger after the Olympics. But I have to say, at least LCW made it to 3 consecutive finals in probably the golden age of men's singles.

Gill the commentator remarked that SYQ lost 14 finals to LCW, which shows the gap between the current no.1 and the legends. one may argue SYQ is in his prime now and wasn't then, but SYQ came back from a long injury lay-off to his current self, which means physically he would be a bit less than his former self. he was already experienced then compared to now so I don't think that made a huge diff. plus he was always playing second fiddle to Chen Long until CL retired. To me, the quality of play in men's singles now is not where it once was. but what do I know, I'm an armchair keyboard warrior.
