guys normally i dont care about commenting and subscribing but after watching ur tutorials for about two hours I have to say that you deserve this, putting so much work into your videos and all that good stuff. Learned a lot thank you very much. Watching ur videos is as entertaining as helpful so please keep going Sean :)
Love your style, never understand the whole engineering thing. But you have driven home how important it is to get completely correct. Thank you. Blessing to you sir.
Never seen that trick de essing with a compressor like that. Thanks very much for teaching, it's very effective and I agree that the standard de desser isn't the greatest. 💥💥💥
Thank you for much for this. I was on the verge of giving up mixing and handing it off to someone else but after watching this and applying these principles, my mix has become worlds better. And there is now DeEsser 2 in the 10.4.5 Logic update. Thank you again. I have a better mix because of this tutorial.
glad it helped! if I understand your question, pitch correction generally corrects one note value or voice at a time (it's not polyphonic). melodyne has some capabilities that go beyond this...
I've watched this video before and have applied some new concepts to what I thought I already knew and man I'm just dropping by to say this video is worth so much is not even funny. Thanks!
Thank you for this video! I did notice that the deEsser kinda sucked lol I thought it was just me being a beginner in mixing vocals. I've also watched a lot of videos on buses and I couldn't understand until I watched this. Great tutorial
Hey man. I’m just starting out, but I really appreciate all your doin... I watched quite a few of your vids, and I feel comfortable with your skill and quality lessons for me to form good habits in the studio. Thank you for that! I’ll be following close for more of that real CONTENT!! 🙏
honestly even the dry mix sounded so good that I'd be tempted to leave it and just add a reverb to the master bus XD Like damn, great arrangement and tight band.
Love the tutorial Sean. Great tips. Just a quick question about this type of a song. Is the bass guitar intended to be slightly out of the pocket and loose on this track? I'm sure it is all subjective. Cool song either way!
Can you put up a tutorial on how to mix background vocals/doublers & harmonies. For some reason when I have people double up/harmonize on certain parts of their vocal track it doesn't come out the way yours do.
hey Sean!! Thank u so much for the video its extremely helpful and informative... I have a quick question though... In your opinion what is the easiest way to learn notation? I have no formal musical training so editing vocals has been hard for me... Any tips or tricks will surely help a lot. Thanks again for the video and for taking the time out to help!! much love
im attempting to use your linear eq side chain compressor trick but the tick isn't moving at all when im trying to reduce the sibilance I followed every step and its not reacting at all
Sean will you have a new tutorial for mixing in Logic Pro X 10.3.3 version huh? Hit me up! Do you have new tutorial for mixing trap beats and vocals in Logic Pro X 10.3.3 or 10.3.4 version? Please help me I want to learn how to mix all types of music whether it's rap, hip hop, trap/trap soul, edm, pop, or rock or country!
Are the lead vocal, and the backing vocals for that matter recorded through any compressor or EQ that you know of? Or is it just a good sounding preamp? :) Great video mate, loved little de-esser sidechain trick, very useful for harsh cymbals, hihat and shakers as well!
Dope video! I learned a lot.You should be working for major artist my man.You have a lot of knowledge and most importantly, great ear's. My only suggestion is that you use a real bass player on the this kinda track next time. It's just missing that groovy bass player vibe. Overall great production and mixing, great song!
Hey Sean, this is great. You answered a lot of questions I was toying with. Do you gain stage all of these track with pre-faders before mixing like this? I noticed that the master bus is peaking a bit, do you play with the main levels after to make sure you have headroom? Thanks
Do you prefer mixing on pre fader or post fader and also, what gain level do you try aiming for on your vocal tracks?? I also just noticed that the make up gain on your compressor were all set on auto gain. Is that a big deal to you?? I always turn my make up off and add it manually since i really don‘t have that much trust in it.
post fader...it was auto gain in this video but you'll notice in just about all my other videos I do it manually :) the balance will be different in every session depending on the sonic qualities
Sounds good. Got one question: Are you using an instrumental rather than stems and if so, what techniques do you utilize to per say "open up the beat" for the vocals to sit inside the beat?
really cool thank you! got one question, are the vocals already gained by any plug-ins before they're being bounced in place? bcs i still have to use gain while recording vocals, and therefore sometimes the volume level turns red/peaking

zavuz mois glad to hear that! more on the way :)
This vid is gold. Currently paying off thousands of debt to learn everything this guy just showed in this vid in 30 minutes. Sick
Your unmixed stuff sounds better than my mixed stuff....damn.
lol thats like mocha da don. u aint alone
Lol that’s true about a lot of videos on yt
Using that side chain compression to take out the harsh sounds is so so genious
I never saw this Sean, excellent video bro.. Nice techniques...
thanks JT!
The compressor-deesser trickj was worth millions. Thanks for that.
Great Jamiroqaui vibe on that last song. Sounds great! Thanks for sharing
Appreciate the kind words
This is about to change the game for me! Thank you for making this
KELLY MARY you're welcome :)
Bro keep it up...one of the best tutorials I’ve seen...just lost about 2 hours of my life trying to keep up...but I appreciate it😄😄😄 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
That joint jammin too btw lol
Love your style, never understand the whole engineering thing. But you have driven home how important it is to get completely correct. Thank you. Blessing to you sir.
That was a nice DeEsser trick!
I'd kill to know how you mixed that bass if you recorded it. been looking for how to use my bass in some funk songs
Never seen that trick de essing with a compressor like that. Thanks very much for teaching, it's very effective and I agree that the standard de desser isn't the greatest. 💥💥💥

Big thanks bro. The way you went around the stock Desser is genius 👌🏽
Glad to help
Huge difference in my recording so glad I found this I watched so many videos lol
Awesome video! Thanks so much for this! Question: how do you apply pitch correction for a track that modulates twice?
glad it helped! if I understand your question, pitch correction generally corrects one note value or voice at a time (it's not polyphonic). melodyne has some capabilities that go beyond this...
I've watched this video before and have applied some new concepts to what I thought I already knew and man I'm just dropping by to say this video is worth so much is not even funny. Thanks!

I like the double comp technique to deal with the s sound! Works great! Thanks, Seano!
That de essing trick is sick man
honestly even the dry mix sounded so good that I'd be tempted to leave it and just add a reverb to the master bus XD Like damn, great arrangement and tight band.
seeing as this is two years old going on three do you mind doing an updated version of this?
It should still sound good on modern tracks
I'll see what I can do! the overall approach hasn't changed :)
Another superb video, thanks! Just wondered why you use Plat Verb rather than Space Designer?
Love the tutorial Sean. Great tips. Just a quick question about this type of a song. Is the bass guitar intended to be slightly out of the pocket and loose on this track? I'm sure it is all subjective. Cool song either way!
thanks! it is :)
Thanks Sean because I want to know how to mix r&b vocals in Logic Pro X with stock plugins
4 years old video - taught me a lot! thanks so much Sean

Mr. Divine you are the truth! Teaching a lot of great gems, you are appreciated highly!
Can you put up a tutorial on how to mix background vocals/doublers & harmonies. For some reason when I have people double up/harmonize on certain parts of their vocal track it doesn't come out the way yours do.
Best vocal tutorial for logic right here !
How do you capture your voice and the audio from logic?
Your tutorials are extremely helpful and simple ive learned a lot from you in the past while. Well done and Thank you.
that's awesome :)
hey man i been following your vids for my cover songs, Thanks heaps for your videos 🙏🏽
Glad it’s been helpful Benya 🙌

This was great! Thank you! I'm new to Logic and will be looking for more of your tutorials!
Great video Sean! learned a lot
glad to hear it Ralfi!
Great video 🙏🏼
Bro You are the TRUTH.
thanks bro
U always have good content man ! Bless u
🙏🤜
What's the hotkey/process to mute a trimmed section like you did at 6:41 ? Thanks
M
You are such a pro! Thank you for sharing....very educational video! Regards CJ
no problem CJ :)
where is the instrumental?
the song bumps something crazy!
It's Awesome
:)
Auto attack and release was turned on on the compressor 😬
Adjusting still affects the release behavior with auto on :)
@@SeanDivine the overall tutorial was very nice and informative and I learnt alot but i couldn’t really hear the difference with auto on.
Or possibly the change was very subtle
Could you post a vid on using wavestunes instead of autotune to get that humanize feel???
I'll see if I can get something up for you!
this tutorial helped me alot as a producer mixing a singers vocal, and i love the tune! its got that usher and Ne-yo vibe
Great video! I don't know if you will see this since it's an old video but can this type of mix be used for a newer trap type rub? thanks in advance
of course! some tweaks must be made (this is for every session as no song is the same) but the concepts and approach will be fundamentally the same 👍
I enjoyed it
glad to hear it!

Hey Catherine, check out this channel - ruclips.net/user/worshipwoodshed some great videos on theory / chords that should be helpful!
thank u for taking the time out to reply greatly appreciated!!
Such a good song and great mix , helped me out a lot
im attempting to use your linear eq side chain compressor trick but the tick isn't moving at all when im trying to reduce the sibilance I followed every step and its not reacting at all
increase your input gain (the level of your mic signal feeding the comp)
What about the bitcrusher
Really appreciate your time
Hey Sean. Great tutorial. I'm curious about the bitcrusher plugin I see on your master. Could you explain its use in the mix? Thanks
it's simply to prevent the audio in the video from clipping :)
Is it ok that the main vocal sent to you was in stereo?
it's not stereo, it's dual mono
Nice stuff! Where are the horns from?
Thank you so much for your help ✔✔💥
🙌
Simple and sweet. Inspired.
Awesome :)
I love your video's man. This one helped me a lot!
:)
Thanks so much papa more work from you
you saved my life 3 years later
Dope !!
Hot track !!! Thanks for sharing
Wish you would've explained the EQ process.

I did not see the noise gate option
Simple and clean! bravo!

Please help me I want to learn how to mix all types of music whether it's rap, hip hop, trap/trap soul, edm, pop, or rock or country!
Hey Rob, I just put out a new mixing course that's hip hop / r&b. Unless you have something I don't, the latest version of Logic Pro X is 10.3.1 :)
Thank you soooo much for putting so much work into your videos, Sean.
Why you used the bitcrusher on the stereo bus? Good videos
it's essentialy used as a master limiter to keep the video from clipping :)
Are the lead vocal, and the backing vocals for that matter recorded through any compressor or EQ that you know of? Or is it just a good sounding preamp? :) Great video mate, loved little de-esser sidechain trick, very useful for harsh cymbals, hihat and shakers as well!
What's the gain on your tracks? And if they are set at 0 do you plan on gain staging/ reducing the gain or will that take away from the potency

Wow masterful stuff👑
This was so informative thank you so much for this example and great music.

Appreciate the feedback!
awesome video bro! once you upload mixing a beat with stock plugins I'll be set. hope that's coming soon!
:)
amazing tut! thanks Sean!
thanks bro never thought of EQ on a reverb wow amazing

That beat is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
is it supposed to sound this quiet during the process? As I don't really want any complications during the mastering process
Sounds good. Got one question: Are you using an instrumental rather than stems and if so, what techniques do you utilize to per say "open up the beat" for the vocals to sit inside the beat?

How did u do EQ on Reverb please
Very well done tutorial! Got me hooked off one video bro!
🙌🙏
Is there any books that you recommend to read to learn about mixing and mastering etc
really cool thank you!
got one question, are the vocals already gained by any plug-ins before they're being bounced in place?
bcs i still have to use gain while recording vocals, and therefore sometimes the volume level turns red/peaking
Reeeally digging this channel. Thank you sir
Glad you enjoy it!
Great video Sean! Where can I purchase this track?
