    Never seen that trick de essing with a compressor like that. Thanks very much for teaching, it's very effective and I agree that the standard de desser isn't the greatest. 💥💥💥

    Thank you for much for this. I was on the verge of giving up mixing and handing it off to someone else but after watching this and applying these principles, my mix has become worlds better. And there is now DeEsser 2 in the 10.4.5 Logic update.
    Thank you again. I have a better mix because of this tutorial.

      glad it helped! if I understand your question, pitch correction generally corrects one note value or voice at a time (it's not polyphonic). melodyne has some capabilities that go beyond this...

    Thank you for this video! I did notice that the deEsser kinda sucked lol I thought it was just me being a beginner in mixing vocals. I've also watched a lot of videos on buses and I couldn't understand until I watched this. Great tutorial

    honestly even the dry mix sounded so good that I'd be tempted to leave it and just add a reverb to the master bus XD Like damn, great arrangement and tight band.

    Love the tutorial Sean. Great tips. Just a quick question about this type of a song. Is the bass guitar intended to be slightly out of the pocket and loose on this track? I'm sure it is all subjective. Cool song either way!

    Can you put up a tutorial on how to mix background vocals/doublers & harmonies. For some reason when I have people double up/harmonize on certain parts of their vocal track it doesn't come out the way yours do.

      of course! some tweaks must be made (this is for every session as no song is the same) but the concepts and approach will be fundamentally the same 👍

    im attempting to use your linear eq side chain compressor trick but the tick isn't moving at all when im trying to reduce the sibilance I followed every step and its not reacting at all

      increase your input gain (the level of your mic signal feeding the comp)

      Hey Rob, I just put out a new mixing course that's hip hop / r&b. Unless you have something I don't, the latest version of Logic Pro X is 10.3.1 :)

      it's essentialy used as a master limiter to keep the video from clipping :)

    Are the lead vocal, and the backing vocals for that matter recorded through any compressor or EQ that you know of? Or is it just a good sounding preamp? :) Great video mate, loved little de-esser sidechain trick, very useful for harsh cymbals, hihat and shakers as well!

    What's the gain on your tracks? And if they are set at 0 do you plan on gain staging/ reducing the gain or will that take away from the potency

    My only suggestion is that you use a real bass player on the this kinda track next time.It's just missing that groovy bass player vibe.

    Hey Sean, this is great. You answered a lot of questions I was toying with. Do you gain stage all of these track with pre-faders before mixing like this? I noticed that the master bus is peaking a bit, do you play with the main levels after to make sure you have headroom? Thanks

    Do you prefer mixing on pre fader or post fader and also, what gain level do you try aiming for on your vocal tracks??
    I also just noticed that the make up gain on your compressor were all set on auto gain.
    Is that a big deal to you??
    I always turn my make up off and add it manually since i really don‘t have that much trust in it.

      post fader...it was auto gain in this video but you'll notice in just about all my other videos I do it manually :) the balance will be different in every session depending on the sonic qualities

    got one question, are the vocals already gained by any plug-ins before they're being bounced in place?
    bcs i still have to use gain while recording vocals, and therefore sometimes the volume level turns red/peaking
