I barely hear any difference when it is running on max vs at idle, on a pretty quiet system. Bought a 3090 because I am running an extremely demanding 32:9 5120x1440 monitor. And even with this card, some games barely break 60 fps, like Final Fantasy XV. Well yeah, it is. No prosumer Titan drivers, GeForce branding instead of Titan. And most of their marketing has been about "8K Gaming!!!11" It's an underperforming, overgrown and overpriced 80Ti. A good deal for people who only need the massive framebuffer, but not the prosumer drivers. Otherwise it's just technically the fastest gaming card, but terrible value.
The thing you probably overlooked is the overall temp inside the case, or even the CPU temp. I think the FE gives better temp inside the case compare to the X Trio since the FE actually blows its own hot air out to the rear.
I'm very concerned by the mention of the sensor on the back of the FE card which reduces performance after the backplate is removed, as I intend to watercool the card. The lower clock speed on the RTX3090 founders edition would highly likely account for it's lower GPU temperature, while noting the rest of the founders edition card run hotter in all area's compared to the MSI Trio cards.
Looks like the 3090 could benefit from a water block, especially on a configuration like the Founders edition since so much heat appears to be getting trapped in the PCB.

3rd power connector is important, even in stock it drains about 45W, reducing the load to the other power connectors, in stock it would consume about 360W, so they've done well by not putting too much load on the motherboard power. OH and flash the bios from SUPREME card and now you can push the limits to 450W, yes the 3rd connector is very handy now -) and overclock is even better. The main issue with the card would be CRAP THERMAL PADS, YES, from the factory, they're TERRIBLE, I replaced mine after just 7 days of use, effectively I voided the warranty, but my VRAM under load was over 100C, so pretty much thrilling. As of the top VRAM, I just put a stock AMD fan on top - and it does a great job at cooling down the backplate -) The VRRAM dropped from 104C to 82C after I replaced the pads -)

I just bought a used gtx 770 for 20 dollars. I also saw used 970 for 50 dollars and rx 580 for 80 dollars. So you can get a decent card for little money.
I suggest leaving the pcb temp investigations to a separate video. The data is iffy the relevance is doubtful. Probes are always tricky, position and number of different data points are pivotal. Might be FE's pcb/die temp delta is wider because the cooling is more efficient and not simply because the pcb is smaller and also might be that the pcb temperature is not the most crucial aspect. We just don't know what the data means, we're enthusiasts not engineers. Fun stuff for an aside video.
Funny how we keep getting RTX 30 series card reviews and content, yet no one can but them. This is getting ridiculous. Why even bother making videos on cards that aren't available?
Nvidia made some odd design choices this go round. I get why they did some of the things they did but the more I learn the more it seems like they just over complicated things for the sake of doing it. That or they got too far down the creative path and forgot to stop and ask themselves if they should even keep going lol
I think the VRM and Memory Temp section is completely misguided. The FE essentially runs at the same overall temp. None of the components tested exceed a safe operating temperature and thee is no indication that any of the higher temps on the PCB or VRM actually impacts performance negatively or threatens the well-being of the card or its user. The design of the FE is significantly different, as Steve points out, thus heat is distributed in the system differently than the AIB model. To quote a notorious Swordsman: "I don't think it means what you think it means."
Nvidia should have called this card Unobtanium instead of Ampere. Much more fitting. The only thing appealing about the 3090 to me is the additional 12 MB of RAM which may come in handy for future game releases if you want to use all the highest settings. Maybe the 3080 20 GB if that unicorn actual comes to fruition will be the better bet for me. Assuming they ramp up production at some point. Still can't find any 3080 or 3090 cards to buy. Also where the heck are the Aorus cards?
Steve is there possibility to test these 3080 and 3090 AIB and FE models in vertical installation. Spesially in Lian LI 011 Dynamic XL, I would think this would help the air flow when you have the 3 fans at bottom intake and also the sidefans intake. In this case there is still 5-6cm air space between the card and the glass so breathability is good even with almost 3 slot card. I am going to do this setup, but reasons we all know dont have the card yet :D case and riser and fans i have :D I would think people are interesting what would the heat results be in this setup. So for all tests are been done in "normal" orientation as far as i know.
Ok. On 1:15 you say they "are virtually identical".... but the difference is kind ob obvious... isn't it? (and I mean that completely detached from the current discussion about caps...) PS: it just irritated a bit. Love your work!
The thumbnail suggests you are asking us. How would we know? It seems just enough cards were built to send 5 different models to the youtubers around the world with more than 200 subscribers , and an extra 300 cards for the scalpers. So really we wouldn't know.
TBH, the Gaming X Trio design and aesthetic appeals to gamers with its RGB. The FE model looks more clean and elegant, but the Gaming X Trio looks amazing, glorious and more high-end.
So, Steve, in conclusion you wouldn’t buy the AIB model of a graphics card that you wouldn’t buy anyway :)

Even if I could buy 3090 or 3080 I would not , these cards are ugly as fuck , and NVIDIA's founder edition is okay.
I do not agree when you said that the FE of nvidia have better thermal result then any other AIB partners. I am using the asus tuf 3090 and im right around 61-62 degrees when playing.
I wish reviewers just STFU and stop saying that the RTX 3090 makes no sense - there are plenty is scenarios where it makes perfect sense. I am so tired of hearing this!
Weren't they caught scalping their own product? Why buy anything from them?
MSI heavily sucked in 3xxx serie! everything about them is in ruins.
i hate to say this why tuf model runs cooler and maintain stable boostclock while gaming ?
i love msi because aesthitic reason :(
maybe its time to moving to strix or aorus :{
Any plans to do a max OC 2080Ti vs 3080 OC? ;)
I have to say, the MSI model is really disappointing. Not worth the extra money.
In Cyberpunk 2077, does the 3090 MSI Gaming X outperform the 3090 Founders Edition?
Good review. I ordered one myself and got tagged as shipped today after over a month of full payment. Overkill i know but hey you only live once. Thanks for your review. Very proffesional 👌
Sorry Steve, but I'm bored with Nvidia 3k series.

Please review this monitor!
Amazing how you stay so positive about such a great company. Well done Steve.
Pricing is ridiculous, i will never pay so much for a GPU
Are you guys copying Gamer Nexus titles?
What's the thickness of VRAM thermopads?
Giving the times we live in, I can't buy a damn RX580 with what I make. Perhaps my luck will come from used mining parts I hope ................ .
I just bought a used gtx 770 for 20 dollars. I also saw used 970 for 50 dollars and rx 580 for 80 dollars. So you can get a decent card for little money.
Yes I know, here prices are 50-70 $ for a used RX480-470 -570-580
@@MirceaPrunaru Which country do you live in that you make so little money?
@@nightdark2616 I make enough to sustain myslef but not enouth to buy something new every month or two.
Please review MSI Suprim X 3090
This review was amazing!
ddr 6 x is fucking hot & power hungry 😜
Why are u not benchmarking the strix
Why even bother making videos on cards that aren't available?
reviews keep coming but stock is always empty....wtf!
Paper launch
Is it just me or were you comparing the FE 3090 with the FE 3080 data @12:27?
Only in 4k LMAO
Nvidia made some odd design choices this go round. I get why they did some of the things they did but the more I learn the more it seems like they just over complicated things for the sake of doing it. That or they got too far down the creative path and forgot to stop and ask themselves if they should even keep going lol
Like the twelwe pinpower connector. Just , WHY?
I think the VRM and Memory Temp section is completely misguided. The FE essentially runs at the same overall temp. None of the components tested exceed a safe operating temperature and thee is no indication that any of the higher temps on the PCB or VRM actually impacts performance negatively or threatens the well-being of the card or its user. The design of the FE is significantly different, as Steve points out, thus heat is distributed in the system differently than the AIB model. To quote a notorious Swordsman: "I don't think it means what you think it means."
Can't wait for the 3070 & AMD's products!!
The FE blows hot air on the CPU, so no thanks.
What monitoring software/overlay are you using? Doesn't look like RTSS/Afterburner.
Can you please probe me too,Steve?
Todays must have, tomorrows 2080 ti. That will be 1590 UK pounds. My whole system cost less!!
I just miss a overclock result from the founder edition 3090, is it worth the extra 200$ over a oc founder?
Ok. On 1:15 you say they "are virtually identical".... but the difference is kind ob obvious... isn't it? (and I mean that completely detached from the current discussion about caps...)
PS: it just irritated a bit. Love your work!
The thumbnail suggests you are asking us. How would we know? It seems just enough cards were built to send 5 different models to the youtubers around the world with more than 200 subscribers , and an extra 300 cards for the scalpers. So really we wouldn't know.
Another Amazing video, cant wait for my Asus Tuf Tho!
I WANT 3090 KINGPIN
TBH, the Gaming X Trio design and aesthetic appeals to gamers with its RGB. The FE model looks more clean and elegant, but the Gaming X Trio looks amazing, glorious and more high-end.
Yes, cheap out on the baseplate, it's just a US1500 product LMAO.
Here Hardware Unboxed reviewing all these non existant Big Chungus GPUs...
Would you make a roundup of all 3090 cards?
