    This video funnily enough helped me solve my super tight cast offs!! Someone said that using the yarn over method when you cast off will help keep the cast off loose and it actually worked! So thank you for teaching me how to yarn over it really taught me multiple new things 😁😁

    This was very clear. Thanks for explaining what to do with the extra loop!

  • @verypinkknits
    @verypinkknits  12 лет назад +1

    Yes, that will leave a hole. Your best bet is to just let the extra yarn-over drop off the end of the needle, and forget it ever existed. :) If you see a tension issue in your work after that, you'll need to rip back and eliminate that extra yarn that was the yarn-over.

  • @verypinkknits
    @verypinkknits  11 лет назад +2

    The way you knit isn't strange. :) It is one of two common ways of knitting, called "Continental". Working a yarn-over in Continental knitting is very much the same, you're going to wrap the right needle with the working yarn. It takes a little more finagling in your case - you may have to hang on to the YO a bit with your right index finger to keep it from sliding off as you work the next stitch. Hope that helps!

    If you have a pattern that is *k1, yo, k1, yo, k4, sl 1, k2tog, psso, k3* For Each yarn over do you have to knit one to complete the yarn over? and then if it says K1 after the YO then you k1 again?

    I knit in a strange fashion, where i hold my yarn in the left hand and just "grab" the yarn through my loops and pull through. How would I go about a YO if I am doing this?
    PS thank you so very much for your videos, they are so clear and easy to follow!

    Doesn’t clarify if the knit stitch is part of the yarn over stitch.

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  2 года назад

      It's not. The YO is separate from any other stitches.

    Stupid question time. So if a pattern calls for “YO, k2tog” does this mean to just move the yarn to the front then knit two together? Or do a yarn over stitch then knit two together? Thanks for the great video!

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  3 года назад +3

      Pulling the yarn to the front before working the k2tog will give you a YO on the needle, that's all it takes.

    This is the first time I have seen purl yarn over done this way - other videos show all the same way which is to wrap the yarn all round the needle. I tried both ways and when I try the way you show the size of the hole that is left in the fabric is negligible. Am I doing something wrong? Margaret :)

  • @striknbarb

    I am very new to knitting (about 2 months now!). When a pattern says "YO, K1, YO, K1..." is the yarn over just the act of putting the yarn in front, or is a yarn over the act of putting the yarn in front plus the knit stitch? I'm not sure if I'm supposed to have a regular knit stitch in between or not!

    • @sanne27
      @sanne27 9 лет назад +2

      A YO is the act of moving the yarn itself, it doesn't include knitting a stitch. :) So in your example, you move the yarn to the front, knit one stitch, yarn to the front, knit one stitch etc.

  • @grumpysincebirth
    @grumpysincebirth 11 лет назад

    Ah I can get it to be bigger if I knit into the back of the yarn over on the way back but it is still not as big as the yarn all around the needle. Puzzled!

    When doing the knit yarn over, are you also knitting into the back of the stitch? That's what it looks like to me but I am not sure.

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  4 года назад +1

      When you are knitting into the yarn-over on the next row, it is a normal knit stitch, not knit into the back of the stitch - unless your pattern instructs you to do that.

    My pattern says....knit across 25 st....turn and abd work a backward yarn over....is this the same thing?

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  10 лет назад

      Jennifer Schwerin - it is probably not the same thing, since they're calling it "backward". These instructions are pretty unique to the pattern you're knitting - if I were you, I'd contact the pattern designer directly with your question. The easiest way to do that is via Ravelry message. They can give you the best answer.

    Is yarn over the same as a yarn forward? I found a pattern which asked for yarn forward, so I looked on RUclips and found a tutorial. The stitch the woman did is exactly this. She spoke with an English accent, so I'm wondering if a yarn over is called yarn forward in England.

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  10 лет назад +1

      YolieP - yes, in many parts of the world (UK included) the term "yarn forward" is used for the same technique we call "yarn over" in the US.

    how is a yo different from a purl then?

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  7 лет назад +1

      Yes, a YO is different from a purl, a purl is a regular stitch, and a yarn-over is an increase.

    Hi Staci I want to ask if a pattern say YO twisted what does that mean??

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  8 лет назад

      +Simply8Nic - I don't think I've ever seen that before...my guess is that you'll work the YO the opposite direction, but your best bet for the correct answer specific to your pattern is to contact the pattern designer directly. Also, since it's a pretty unique stitch, it should be clarified somewhere in your pattern.

      Yarn over in knitting

  • @dianatheriault2913

    Hi Staci. I just learned the Reverse Yarnovers. I'm wondering why do a reverse yarnover?

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  10 лет назад

      Diana Theriault - I've never seen reverse yarn-overs called for in a pattern, but I suppose it would be necessary to create a twisted YO, the same way knitting through the back loop (ktbl) creates a twisted knit stitch.

  • @DunjaDunaj

    but please why didnt you show how to eventualy knit it in the next row?

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  7 лет назад

      The next row is knit like any other row - no difference. The yarn-over increases are treated like any other stitch.

      I have the same question; when you purl back through that knitted yarn over, do you put the needle into the front as if to purl? Or into the back of the stitch? Thanks!

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  7 лет назад

      Unless the instructions tell you to knit it through the back loop, you knit it normally, through the front loop. No difference to any other stitch.
