The deep sadness of Zatoichi's unfortunate and precarious existence is always very moving to me. One has to wonder what kind of karma a person must accumulate in past lives to be fated to wander about as a blind man who must kill to survive another day in a world that is at once so beautiful and yet so evil. Ichi is such a kind man who must perform acts that he genuinely despises.
