    Just an edit you would require.
    At 16:00 have a watch over the s4 and s3. Their Ip ranges got swapped by mistake i think. Thats all.

    in 115-16 min the range of ip address swapped. for s4 it would be 128-191 and for s3 it would be 192-255. the class is very good. thanks

    I have a doubt as subnet S3 will range from 128-192 and subnet S4 will range from 192-255. Am i right?

    i think subnet with 10(s3 ) should have iP's 128 - 191 and subnet with 11(s4) should have iP's 192-255. to make continuity lecturrer use s1,s2,s3,s4 .
    anyways it is just a slip of the pen. clearly understood the way you explain everything make every difficult problem a simple one .

    class c network is 200.1.2.0
    we divide network into 2 part by performing subnetting
    1 part
    200.1.2.0- NID
    200.1.2.127- DBA
    2 part
    200.1.2.128- NID
    200.1.2.255- DBA
    inside Network is divided into 2 part Now from Outside the network if a host want to send a packet to all host , it will set destination address 200.1.2.255 and sent to router. according to router 200.1.2.255 is the DBA of 2 part then it will sent this to all host of 2 part.
    my question is how the router will determine, whether to sent this to all or individual network

      Because you are sending from outside.
      Internal router is receiving destination address from outside router.
      Therefore it is getting broadcasted into whole network.

    Is subnet mask a property of the network itself? By that logic, subnet mask should be a constant number for the entire network. Because in the example of 200.1.2.0 network being divided into 4 subnets, the configuration of the hosts in the network decides how many 0's are there, and network ID, class and number of subnets remain constant throughout the lifetime of the network. So, why keep on repeating the value of subnet mask in each entry of the routing table, if it is indeed a constant quantity?

    Whether router will consider only binary numbers to find the interface or is it possible to have the decimal number to find the interface(ie) for matching with the netID

    Ravi, your lessons are well organized , however , when you talk about sub netting, you should talk about it like logical segregation. (Let us not know into route summarization, supernetting now : ) ) . Your heirarchial routing is right in one sense, you have an organization with multiple public IP , but the DG might be advertizing with a summarized route. The problem with that is that a subnet in essence a network a complete autonomous L3 network. Let us for simplicity assume we are dealing with public ip's then subnet is like a network, and routes are advertized within an AS (assuming OSPF) as a network with classless boundaries..........in that case you might now have hierarchical routing...... hats off to you... you are better than most classes i have taken in India, but i believe half the battle is about the student visualizing "network segmentation" ....(both logical an physical) food for thought!!!!!!

    I have a query,
    In the part where we handle the ambiguity according to the perspective of the sender, does that mean that a directed broadcast can not be sent to a single subnet from outside of the network? For example, if a packet is received from outside the network with destination = 200.1.2.255, that will mean it is a directed broadcast for the whole network.
    But is there a mechanism by which a directed broadcast can be issued only for the second (or more generally, for the last) subnet?
    Moreover, if we want to send a directed broadcast for the first subnet (s1), would issuing the destination as 200.1.2.127 work?
    Note: all the packets are being sent from a source outside of the network

      The outside network doesn't know about the subnets inside the recipient network. In your query, 200.1.2.255,will send a directed broadcast to the network and, 200.1.2.127 will be a uni-cast (In this case, since this address is SID of subnet-1, the IP will not be available)

      Wouldn't the internal router identify the 200.1.2.127 as the broadcast address of the first subnet, causing it to flooding on the interface that connects with this subnet? I mean, that is what seems more logical.

    Sir here msb bits are choosen for subnet id. Whether we can chose any other bit positions for creating subnet ids. If so what will be their subnet masks

    Sir, S3 and S4 range were swapped out by you mistakely..please check it out at 15:36..! bits fixed with 11 should be from range 192-255 and bits fixed with 10 should be in range 128-191.

    Hi Ravinder,
    As you are explained, 200.1.2.0 is for whole network or for subnet-1, as per my understanding it depending upon packet masking, i mean if packet as 200.1.2.0/24 for whole network and if packet 200.1.2.0/25 then it's for subnet-1, let me correct if any.

    what if the external router has to send a packet to an ip address which denotes either a network id or directed broadcast id for any of the subnetted network??
    i.e for example 200.1.2.0 is divided into 2 subnets. they will be 200.1.2.0 - 200.1.2.127
    and 200.1.2.128 - 200.1.2.255
    so now if the packet coming from an external router has to be sent to 200.1.2.127 or 200.1.2.128 . In this case where will the packet reach?

      200.1.2.127 is broadcast address for first /25 subnet; 200.1.2.128 is network Id for second subnet. Depending how router configured, packets aimed at either of these addresses will go nowhere or bounced back by ICMP protocol codes 0 & 1 Destination host or network unreachable

    In case of 2 subnets, if a packet is coming from external source (which will be unaware of the subnetting) then what will 200.1.2.127 (DBA of sub-net 1) and 200.1.2.128 (ID of sub-net 2) mean to the external source ?

    Sir in this video you are explaining about Class c address.Then why you considered only the starting bit.why didn't you considered starting 3 bits.You solved this problem assuming Class A sir.Thank you

      When you divide host id you don't need to consider how its respective class is divided.
      Since 2 subnets were required that's why he used 1 bit. Similarly when 4 subnets were required he used 2 bits. Basically
      ' no of div req= 2^n '
      here n=no of bits

    Sir, from 9:35 to 12:46, you explained subnetting.
    1. If a packet originates from outside the organization and receiver's IP address is 200.1.2.255, the packet is broadcasted to both the Subnets.
    2. If a packet originates from subnet A and receiver's IP address is 200.1.2.255, the packet is broadcasted to Subnet B
    3. If a packet originates from subnet B and receiver's IP address is 200.1.2.127, the packet is broadcasted to Subnet A.
    Sir my question is, what will happen if the packet originates from outside the organization and the destination IP address is 200.1.2.127 ?

    Sir one doubt. If the connection matches with two or more networks then you told to go with the subnet mask with more number of 1s, but in the above routing table all the networks have the same Subnet mask. So wha should be done?
