Very interesting video. Amazing how many different looks that were achieved with one set of stencils and using different colors and different textures. Thanks so much.
Nicki kept referring to the yellow petals as leaves and I thought maybe there is something I don’t know about sunflowers. I thought maybe they were like poinsettias and the brilliant color isn’t in the flower but rather a specialty leaf ( poinsettias bright color is in the bracts more than the tiny flowers). Turns out there is a great deal I don’t know about sunflowers. While the yellow petals are actually petals, they are the fused petals of individual ray flowers. The center of sunflowers are composed of two different types of flowers, hundreds of disk flowers arranged in a spiral and the brown fuzzy center is yet a third type of flower. A sunflower bloom can contain as many as two thousand flowers. It’s technically a flower head called a pseudanthium. I also didn’t know that there really are purple and blue sunflowers. I thought when I was using my sunflower dies with those colors of cardstock, I was just having a lark. I liked how abstract the stencil is. It makes it easier to create the interesting backgrounds Nicki made. I shall have to examine my flower stencils to see if I have something similar. Or I could use the same coloring techniques on my die cut sunflowers. I can’t decide if I liked the pink or orange card the best. All the cards were cool of course, but I love the colors of sunset.
