Before Prometheus, what always scared was thinking about what the Xenomorph that emerged from the Space Jockey looked like. Xenos take on the traits of their hosts, so I imagine that thing must have been huge.

You have to remember that in "Alien", the signal the Nostromo picked up, was a WARNING. That implied that the Space Jockey race could have been benevolent.
Personally, I don't even accept Ridley Scott's "new" vision of the giant race. He didn't have that in mind way back when he made "Alien". Even so, these comic book stories are way better than what he turned out with "Prometheus".

Yes, absolutely right and while I casually enjoyed both Prometheus and Covenant each as a 'stand lone' side shoot of the lore, they never 'organically' extended from the original Alien story line (c.f. Dan O'Banon et al story & script). The beauty magic and wonder of the Space Jocky & biomechanoid Juggernaut ship were pure genius: original imaginative and had great potential. They were the backbone of the Alien premise - albeit very little explored or developed in the franchise. Then ScottFree et al had to bring in the human origins / evolution / AI ideas (shamelessly stolen from 2001: A Space Odyssey) and the Black Goo (also (shamelessly stolen from the X-Files) supposedly to take the franchise into a 'new direction' ? Spare me, please! Least imaginative, least meaningful story and lacks integrity imagination and creativity. I wish that they'd let N Blomkamp bring in his Alien 5 (and the remaining original cast including Sigorney Weaver) instead of suffocating it the way they did. R Scott may have been the best thing that happened to the original Alien movie; but he's the worst thing that could have ever happen to the Alien Franchise.
Love the original Alien and the sequel Aliens (even Alien 3 and 4 to some lesser extent), but do not respect anything since - least in that list is that last mediocrity and joke of a 'sequel': Alien Ridiculous. It was so positioned between Alien and Aliens to subvert the lore and now they have an open doorway to steer the franchise into R Scott's wierd semi-mythical semi-religious incoherent crap , which had nothing to do with the original story & script.

@@Sci-Fi_Quizshow - I pretty much agree with what you said. Yet, I view the newer Alien films as spiffy, high-budgeted sci-fi and hardly in the Alien franchise at all. For me, it's like the Terminator films - the first two began and ended it. Everything after seemed like a completely different universe filled with bad writing and bad vision. This is how I feel about the Alien movies - first two were the most fulfilling. And part of that was the mystery of it all. The first Alien film was not Ridley's story. He just brought it life as a young, struggling director (which is when many, many directors and actors put out their best work - when they are young and struggling to be recognized. They seem to start off wanting to do it for the art. But after they make it big, they lose the artist in themselves and do it for a bigger paycheck. It's when they don't have to struggle, that they lose a certain purity.) So, Alien, not being an original idea of Ridley's, suddenly, years later, became an idea of something along the lines of Chariots of the Gods, in his mind, which took it in a wholly different direction. Why couldn't the alien simply be a creature that evolved into that "perfect organism", and some strange ancient alien race found it and collected it for study, but was something far worse than they bargained for? This universe is quite large and quite old. It's not a far stretch to think life could have evolved to such a state. It could be the closest we've come to imagining the unimaginable when it comes to what lifeforms could be out there. It just didn't seem necessary to make this whole chain of life wind up being connected to us humans. To me, that lessens the very idea of Alien and the mystery of this vast, ancient universe is taken away. The mystery was a key to it's horror.
      Rant over. 😊

Man, why couldn't they have used this as the basis for Prometheus? The whole "origin of humanity" thing was so pretentious and overused in sci-fi that it didn't do much for me. I much prefer the design of these thick, 4-fingered, snouted aliens that had been fighting the xenomorph and wanted the location of Earth for it's own benefit as opposed to some boring albino humanoid in a spacesuit. To add insult to injury, the engineer wasn't even as big as the one from Alien by at least 4 or 5 feet! They should've just adapted this into a movie.

My idea for a third alien/prometheus movie is as follows:
The engineers are the main characters in the movie and comes to the planet that was in the Prometheus movie.
There they find Weyland inside the crashed spaceship. They have a blue elixir which they empty all over him and bring him to life.
In the next part they arrive at the planet from alien covenant and find the other robot(Walter) who is david's twin. The engineers use the blue elixir and repairs him.
Once awaken the engineers and Weyland get to know all the horrible things that David has done, and weyland says "we have to stop David" .
They set course for origae. When they arrive, they scans all the planet, and finds the planet is full of hostile organisms except
on a high mountain where they discover that there are humans inside a cave.
Inside the cave they meet a herd of children, who tell that when they had lived on the planet for over ten years,
they began to be attacked by Xenomorphs and all the adults died or were turned into these creatures.
There were also great giants developed by someone the children calls David.
The engineers get ready to wipe out all the Xenomorphs that David has created, but the great giants manage to escape with one of the engineers' spaceships.
The engineers and Weyland hunts the spaceship and manage to force the spaceship down on the planet lv426.Where it start sending a distress signal.
The engineers return to Origae to find David, but discover that he has escaped.
In the last part we see David arriving and meeting an unknown alien species
on a tropical like planet. And that makes the cliffhanger that ends the third movie.

Remember that ridley gets his influences from religions. Example, christ, creator, and the resemblance of the elephant suit depicts Ganush or the elephant god for the hindus who is a sleeping God that protects the world from destruction or chaos. And also the xenomorphs acts like the demons who are inferior to the engineers yet this specie overpowered them that these demons would look like gods over their creators. Like humans and androids. artificial humanoids that turns out more superior over humans

When a movie is popular but doesn't reveal much of the back story, comics and novels which are written by other authors are made to fill in the back story and continue the timeline. Star Wars did this a lot with the Expanded Universe. But when it comes time for the movie makers to make the true sequels/prequels, the movie makers very rarely (never?) consider the work made by comic and novel authors to be canon and just write their own vision of what the stories should be. This is why the expanded universe in Star Wars was retconned by Disney when they made Episode 7.
Before the movie Prometheus, the comics depicted the Space Jockeys as those elephant aliens, Prometheus retconned the comics and changed them to the Engineers.

They missed a good writing opportunity with the Space Jockeys. Yes this is better than Prometheus but that's like saying its better than the Last Jedi. Better idea: Space jockeys are peaceful and empathic. They are masters of organic technology - they 'grow' and then psychically communicate with their ships. They discover the Predators tens of thousands of years ago when they are small, squat, primitive vicious little shell eaters on their homeworld swamp planet. The Jockeys decide to 'uplift' the Predators but the Predators want to be taller, stronger, more powerful, better fighters. The Jockeys refuse but the Predators quickly find that by hurting themselves they can cause pain to the highly empathic Jockeys. The Predators use this to enslave the Jockeys who are forced to use their knowledge of organic technology to make the Predators, taller, stronger, badder etc. Some of the Jockeys who didn't want to be enslaved decided to create a weapon to use against the Predators - something even worse, something fearless and horrifically dangerous - the Alien. The Aliens couldn't have evolved on their own as they are far too deadly a parasite - they would quickly take over and then nothing larger than a house cat is left. But could they have been designed as a weapon? Oh yes...
You could make a good story/movie series with this - wish they would have.

no one grows out of a stiupid chair or looks like an frikkin elephant, not even teh Alienz^^ i always found that totally goofy and unrealistic.. in Prometheus and Alien Covernant the "Space Jockey's" wear suits, a helmet and they are human like, which is more realisitc
