    I have one of these and a 2000 RGT2020 Prestige. They feel nearly identical when you pick them up. There are more sound options with the 1220 due to the mini toggle. It's hard to describe, but the with the Japanese 2020 you just "feel the craftsmanship"; it becomes a part of your body. Also note that the 1220 will require a little bit of setup (action, truss rod), but not too much. That having been said, the 1220 has better fretwork (the stainless frets and the "premium fret edge treatment" is the real selling point of these Premium guitars). You sacrifice a little bit in the electronics (pots, switches; not pickups). I'd say that the 1220 Premium is 85% of the Prestige (but with stainless frets!), at 65% of the cost. For $1000 less than the Prestige, you're still getting a hell of a guitar.

      Indeed, it's a great guitar. I was looking for something with a great quality Floyd, but without spending 2000 bucks or so. I saw this one at a store, tried it, and... just had to buy it. It's a good deal. I haven't tried a Prestige yet, but one day i'm sure i will, just to feel the difference at least...

    One of the best sounding review of this guitar. When I heard the few of the other reviews it sounded like really thin and cheap and I was like well it looks good but it ain't sounds good :) you made me change my mind. What is the filling of playing it? If it's like all rg's premium or prestige ones than is a take it to go?

    Hey man great review!! I bought one close to a year ago and love it but I’ve had two problems with it. The first one is not that big of a deal but I had to shim the low E, high E and B string saddles to get super low action without any buzz. The second problem is the finish is not very sturdy. I’ve developed a pretty considerable rash/fade from my fingers and nails rubbing around the high E string. Also there’s rash/fade on the finish where my forearm rests on the guitar. Have you noticed this? Actually considering restaining it and refinishing it. Other than that this thing plays beautifully. The original edge trem is unreal!!! Usually I try different pickups in guitars I buy but have no desire to in this guitar. And I haven’t liked the tonezone in some guitars but it sounds great in this one!!! I noticed it must have a treble bleed circuit cuz you don’t lose high end when you roll the volume knob down. If it wasn’t for the delicate finish I would put this guitar up against ANY prestige I’ve ever owned/played. I’m curious to know if you’ve had this problem?

    • @srficarra
      @srficarra 11 месяцев назад

      Also wanted to add that the stainless frets and fretwork is incredible!!!

    • @megahurtz30
      @megahurtz30  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hi! Thanks! I'm surprised about those issues that you mention. I've not noticed them in my guitar. I did lower the action on mine, but to normal levels i suppose, but without any noticable buzz, although, that is also a bit related on how strong one picks the strings. As for the finish getting worn, i haven't noticed anything at all, but, i bet you give the guitar a good workout. I haven't played it extensively, so far, i have treated it as my other guitars, which also retain fairly "fresh" looks. I only play at home after all...

    • @srficarra
      @srficarra 11 месяцев назад +1

      Appreciate the fast reply bud!!! Yeah I’ve definitely given this guitar a workout over the last year cuz it’s been such a pleasure to play and I get more compliments on this guitar than any of my others. And I have a few other guitars that are way more expensive. Really digging the playability, sound and look. And it’s insanely flexible!!! Can cover a lot of ground. Have you noticed that it’s wired with a treble bleed (if you roll down the volume you don’t lose high end)? I haven’t had much luck with DMZ tonezone pups in the past. I’ve found them dark and not very dynamic. But in this guitar it slays!!! And I’m not normally a fan of treble bleeds but I love it in this guitar. I’m assuming that’s a little 20w engl fireball you have? That’s a killer little head and thinking about grabbing one. I’ve been loving this Elmwood Modena m60 head (pretty sure they’re out of business now) for the last couple years but thinking about grabbing a fireball. Or maybe an ironball but I’ve never played an ironball to compare. Greetings from New Orleans!!! Subscribed!!!

    • @megahurtz30
      @megahurtz30  11 месяцев назад +1

      @@srficarra Well, looking at the wiring at first glance, it doesn't seem to have a treble bleed, since i don't see any capacitor on the volume pot, but at the same time, this has a more elaborate wiring because of the dynamix10 switch. But the sound does seems to lose some boominess when you reduce the volume, moving the tone a bit more to mid/treble. My Engl amp is a Gigmaster 15, not a 20W Fireball, although in terms of looks they are very similar. This Gigmaster has only one preamp valve, but it's quite versatile and sounds good. The low end is pretty tight

      I had the same guitar. I have put SH16 into the bridge and SH1-N into the neck positions. So far it has sounded incredible. If you want to go DiMarzio way, I can suggest Super Distortion paired with PAF Pro (or 36th anniversary).
