  • As part of their research workflow, many people prefer to take notes in Evernote on resources they have saved in Zotero. This video shows how to link a citation stored in Zotero to a note stored in Evernote.

Very useful. Is there any way to do this process backwards? This works great from Zotero to Evernote. How about from Evernote to Zotero. For example, I'm researching refugee issues in Indonesia using Evernote, and I come across an article, and I want to see the citation info in Zotero. Or to know if I have the citation information at all. Is there a way to do that?

You have to have the Evernote application installed on the same PC as Zotero and have rights to the notebook (either owner or view access to a shared notebook).
To link to the note via the Evernote Web site you would have to share and get a URL for the note, then attach a link instead of a URI to the Zotero citation.

Thanks for the video. This seems like a very useful technique. You said clicking the link in Zotero will open the note in Evernote. Does this require both to be natively installed on the computer? Or perhaps do you think accessing the Zotero link via the web interface on a computer does not have Evernote installed might open the Evernote note in a web browser?

Is the URI specific to the profile or the local machine? Both my home and office computers have Zotero and Evernote. If I link this citation at my house as you described, will that link be working on my office computer when I go in tomorrow?

I just tried this on two computers running Windows 7. I copied the note URI on computer #1 and then sent the URI to myself on computer #2. When I clicked on the link on computer #2 the correct note opened. Given this, it appears that the URI is stable across multiple instances of Evernote, at least when using the Windows desktop app.

See this post on The Zoteroist blog:

I have not tested this translator, but it appears to do what you want.
