I think the reason why Edson's kicks are so effective is because he has an extremely strong core. Just pay close attention to his body composition and how his core contracts when striking. Also, repetition in training.

I am a big big fan of Barboza and really paid attention to his time in the UFC. Some of the others have brought up his ground game as a weakness, which is true. However, I want to add that Barboza was also pretty reckless. He went into many of his fights like a madman. He is very explosive and throws everything he has with every strike. His excellent conditioning and cardio allow him to keep this crazy pace and has made for some of the most exciting fights in the UFC....but it also leave him open to counter strikes. If you go back and watch his fights, you will see what I'm talking about. There's a substantial portion of his losses that come from KO, TKO, or decision where he has taken much punishment

These people in your replies have never stepped foot inside a Muay Thai Gym In there life, and have never checked a kick with their bare shin, it HURTS, also knee-checking bare shin can break the kneecap. The power and speed at which Barboza throws his kicks, even if you wanted to check them, which they did, he kicks through the check.
