G'day, this is Dean Butler Writer/Director of Evenfall. First, thanks so much for checking out our film! Second, If you have any questions/comments I'm here to chat!
❤❤
Will there be a sequel?
In the end we're you inferring that another person went missing or what? I'm a little confused from lack of info.
@@dchecky that's what I thought too... Maybe a reluctant hero type guy (with psychic insights) and detective team up. Bit difficult to follow but was ok.
@@PRANAV_INN Hopefully there will be a feature
This was an amazing story. I always loved a happy ending, especially for likable characters. These short horror films are surpassing Hollywood’s horror films. These actors did a fantastic job.
Thanks mate. I feel very honored to have Evenfall on Alter - I've been blown away by so many of the films that live here it's CRAZY GOOD!
I was so happy to see an Australian film. Ours can be very gritty, but real without all the big explosions etc 🙂
But you still gotta love those dark twists at the end
@@JHjh88 Aussies represent!
@@AlucinorProductions Amazing film. I love the setting in where the evil was lurking. Reminded me of the canerery factory in Razor back, but in Australian winter rather than summer. There's something really haunting about abandoned properties 'out in the bush'. The evil isn't always lurking down an alley in the CBD. Wonderful film. I thought every single concept new too (in my humble opinion). Nothing 'rehashed' in this gem. 👍
I would definitely watch a full length movie or even a series based on this.
Thanks mate! We're striving to make that happen!
Just what I was thinking!
@@MP-gm5gg Thanks mate, means a lot
@@jett8193 Cheers buddy! That's the intention!
Me too!
Dude, this was amazing! I would totally watch a supernatural detective series like this. Put me in mind of the old Kolchak show from the seventies, or maybe Grimm or Fringe from more recent times. Awesome!
Thanks mate!! We're planning a feature
I remember Grimm and Fringe two awesome supernatural shows I'm surprised that somebody would actually remember those shows anyways this was really good I agree with you Brent it would make a great series
@@lisamorales4286 it's funny you respond to this comment now because I'm literally in the middle of a Fringe rewatch on Prime 😄👍
@@lisamorales4286 We're making one more short before pursuing a feature. Ideally we'd make a series of streaming films rather than shows for this story. 3-5 intense films
@@brentage5000 Fringe is awesome
The astral projection scene really freaked me out. I have gotten stuck in an astral projection and couldn't find out how to wake up.
I did really like this except for one thing...Is anyone else tried of seeing movies with a screaming, whimpering victim all tied up who doesn't have an ounce of common sense to give helpful advice? Just one head gesture meaning, "Hey, there might be someone down there below me!" would have been nice.
Thanks for the feedback! In the planned feature series Hayley goes on to kick some serious ass after this experience....
Fantastic. 😱🤩
The daughter...her cries broke my heart. Whew....
Strong work. Wonderful job, all. Bravo!👏👏👏👏👏👏
Mariah has so much energy. She sure has a killer scream on her! Thanks for showing your support! All the best
I am extremely impressed with the storyline. You get credit for not relying on jump scares. I loved the tension between the actors. I've watched tons of horror over the years and this is better than a lot of top budget movies I've watched. I'd love to see follow ups. I think it would be great if the demon was attached to him because of his abilities, and was not in fact evil but trying to keep the natural balance of life and death. It would also be cool to have consequences from him defying the death of others and how him saving the victims, actually saw them have repercussions, suffering in a different way because they shouldn't in the natural order still be alive.. Just a few thoughts but really loved it. Thanks for sharing your work.
Thanks for your kind words. Really appreciate it. We're shooting our follow up soon (July)... with a few flashbacks shooting next week! The Demon character becomes VERY important to the story and Jack's journey. Hopefully you like what we do with that. Thanks again for your comments. The support means a lot!!!
Supernatural horror is one of my favorite genres and there isn’t enough being crafted. This definitely left me wanting more. It felt like an elevated retelling about the psychic detective, Dr. Michael Rhodes, introduced as a recurring character in the 70s US tv horror show Night Gallery. I loved that character!
Was this based on a short story? There are hints to a lot of backstory. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the demon again and suspect, without specific spoilers, that there is a deeper relationship which brings significance to the description of Jack.
On the technical side, one quibble is with the slightly heavy hand with the sound. The music score sometimes distracted me and pulled me out of the moment and the foley effect for the weapon being holstered was jarring.
In the last scene, I get that the detective has become familiar with Jack, knowing his coffee preference. What is the point of Jack asking, “Bonsoy?” Was it a throwaway line for the actor in a scene where speaking less says more? If it was just confirmation of their growing closeness, the detective’s statement was enough.
Great film! Bingeworthy potential. I’d absolutely follow a series or full feature. Cheers!
Hey thanks so much for your kind words! Appreciate it. To answer your questions:
It wasn't based on a short story and yes you are right there's much more to the Demon character than we explored in this short. It's a proof of concept short that throws people into an 'economical' section of the third act of the feature.
Thanks for the sound feedback! Will take note.
We actually shot the final scene some months after the rest of it. There was originally more dialogue but after editing the rest of the film we decided to peel it right back. There was too much talking. The goal just just to sort of firm up that this is going to be an ongoing unofficial partnership when she hands him the missing persons report.
The goal is a feature with a planned trilogy.
@@AlucinorProductions Yesss!
@@SublimeEarth_369 Final short coming soon (Festivals first) - A shadow in the darkness is an in universe follow up to this. Terror by Night - An Evenfall Story is the final short coming soon... Then we'll see :-) Thanks for watching!!!
See, I read the last scene as the detective was handing the psychic info about HIMSELF, from his past. As though she was giving him vital info on WHO he was in exchange for his "skills." I understand the traditional reading of it - but the swelling music, acting, and atmosphere made me feel as though HE was going to learn *very important information* about himself (like who is he, how he is the way he is, etc) instead of being handed just another case. Their relationship/skill sets seemed pretty set-up already AND it seems a bigger pay-off and jumping point for the trilogy to start!
Why didn't we think of that!! ;-) It's a missing kid and we'll address it in the next short. Which we're aiming to make terrifying (not a goal of this short) and also far more heartfelt than anything we've done before. Keep you fingers crossed for us, we're going to be taking some big swings
@@AlucinorProductions Bwa!! I knew you had something like that underneath those huge sleeves of yours! There had to be some reason he's helping other than 'he can!' Can't wait to see!!
The actors are always amazing in these short films istg
Thanks random dude!
This was really good hope there's a sequel
Thanks mate, hopefully a feature soon
This was so well done!!! The shooting scene was absolutely crazy and I loved every second of this. I hope to see more from this director! 💜
Thanks so much Lily, means a lot
I love this because it shows the evil that's really hiding behind child abductors, predators, traffickers, murderers, kidnappers,ETC
Bravo! Wish this was a full length feature movie!
This NEEDS to be made into a series!!
This absolutely needs to be a series! I would watch all of it!
Thanks Kasey. You can check out 'A Shadow in the Darkness' on ALTER. That features Jack sometime after the events of this. Unfortunately Gemma (Ayla) was unavailable for that film due to COVID state lockdowns. We're shooting another Evenfall short with Jack and Ayla in September (providing we can have everything ready to go).
Wow. This is a great short film. It shows how amazing the actors, director and the whole team to make this Kind of excellent work of art. Love it😍💯
That's really heartwarming to read Irish! Thanks so much for the support! Glad you enjoyed it!!!
This could be a series. Wow, amazing acting, writing, production. Suspense is off the chain in the best way. More please, To all of you, great job, award worthy. 😊👍
That honestly means a lot! Thanks so much. We're working on more...
This was, to say the least, a really good production from start to finish. The story line, while a bit confusing, was wonderful, the acting, certainly above the line, especially the detective and the setting, too, fit right in. I've seen a number of films from down under and many are as good, if not better than Hollyweird. A couple of comments, if you please; #1, the background music was was the hell too loud and #2, as with productions of this type from other places, the silly detective stopped her unit way the hell too far away and than was forced to run much further than was necessary. Trust me, as former police officer, a few steps too far can be a matter of life or death where the victim is concerned.
Thanks for the feedback! Glad you enjoyed it. We'll certainly be consulting with police before the feature to make sure these sorts of procedural/safety things are ironed out. Thanks again!!!
I would suspect as a former police officer you also wouldn't have contacted a metaphysical psychic for help, and called in backup if you knew the actual location the killer was holding the captive? Oops, there goes our movie and we are stuck with another episode of cops...
@@vktesla This short doesn't go into it but these two are kind of thrown together before the events of this film. She saves his life and he has an NDE. After that he's not quite the same...
The music was EXTRAORDINARY and I felt it really made the story jump from great to spectacular. So bravo to the composer! If I had a question it would simply be "Was this music written specifically as the score to this horror story?" Either way the music was just tremendous but if it was an original score composed for this short horror flick then double kudos!! I've had some difficulty in understanding a number of these short ALTER flicks, but not so here - I (felt like I) understood EVERYTHING - why he stabbed himself, the missing persons report on the child at the very end (fingers crossed for a sequel!), and so on. Lots of nuance in this short film, it really keeps the viewer glued to the screen. This flick gets 5 stars out of 5 in my humble opinion, keep up the good work and good luck.
Thanks so much Matt! Really appreciate it... Jamie Murgatroyd was the composer he's an absolute talent and a huge asset for us on this film for sure! Jack and Ayla will be back for a third chapter before we work towards the feature... We're aiming to shoot the sequel short middle of this year and we'll be following up on that loose thread at the end of this one. All the best
As many have already stated here, I think the concept lends itself well to a series, certainly more so than a single full length film script. You could have a creep-of-the-week to set up, allowing for a Peanut's Gallery of rogues; crazy, colorful villains -- some of whom are more awful than others, as they needn't all be child abducting Satanic murder-rapist cannibals! -- with longer arcs superimposed over the whole, featuring one big baddie that they chase down over the entire span of a season, or maybe over multiple seasons! They go one step forward, two steps back, or vice-versa, in their pursuit of this Big Baddie, learning more about him as they go, then sometimes learning that they've been sold a bill of goods, causing them to chase red herrings for an entire season maybe, which they find out about just as they believe they're closing in on him at last... SO much potential... SO much fun!
Thanks for your really well written response Mark! Appreciate it, and understand where you're coming from. I 100% agree that the TV series storytelling you layout so well would fit Evenfall brilliantly! Reality for us as an independent production company is that we can raise the funds to do an Indie feature, but not a series. However should that feature land well, who knows. I actually really like the idea of doing a series of movies. I certainly have a lot of ideas for the characters and I have the ending for the lead characters planned out. I feel many 8-10 episode shows have 2 or 3 filler episodes which I'd rather avoid. Making it a 4-6 episode show (if it were a show)... But then I think... why not a series of films. The first feature takes place over just 2-3 days. It's a bit Terminator like (not the plot) but how the characters lives are turned upside down and they have to deal with it and face a very overwhelming threat in a short space of time. It's quite relentless in it's pacing. Thanks for watching!!! (If you're interested, A Shadow in the Darkness is set in this same world too. But only has Jack in it as the actor who plays Ayla was stuck on the other side of the country during covid at the time). That's also on Alter. We're shooting a third short this April which will be more scary and more epic in scope. Then we're working on the feature. Thanks again!!!
Very nice! Suspenseful, well-directed (not a technical expert, I just judge basically on what I enjoy watching)
I loved the happy ending because it's not predictable as many other cinema horror movies!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it 😀
Story was amazing! Kept me on the edge of the seat 🔥
Thanks very much! :-) Really glad you enjoyed it
Absolutely loved this!! So much better than the so called horror movies being put out by the big companies. Would love to see this made and put out there!
Us too! Thanks for the support!
Hello
Love it
Loved the film. The shots were amazing and the acting was also high-end. I would loved to know if there are other short films that might explain some of the lore behind the main character's power and who the creepy man is
Really stoked you enjoyed the film! The lore is certainly explained in detail in the feature of which this short is a proof of concept for, but I don't have anything else produced to share at the moment. The creepy man is a far more threatening semi-supernatural force in the feature.
I agree it was great! The killer was wearing what resembled to me to be a version of the old plague doctor mask that doctors wore during the bubonic plague in the early ages. The long nose held sachets of various herbs and perfumes that the doctors believed would shield them from getting the plague themselves. At any rate the towns people feared them as much as they feared the disease itself
@@johnnyx53 Yep that's where the mask inspiration came from
I feel like so many movies here struggle to present their ideas in this short format as well as be interesting and engaging for the viewer. This was a really good project, imo. Concepts were thouroughly visited, acting was on point, and it was fun to watch most importantly. We need more like these.
Wow thanks Cake! Stoked to hear you enjoyed the film. Jack and Ayla will be back in another short by around the end of the year before we pitch for the feature.
One of the best ALTER movies I've ever seen.
That means a lot thanks mate!!!
Tag team with a Detective. He can control lucid dreams or go to a parallel universe by focusing on somebody's photo. Job well done to all. This could be a spin-off from the XFiles. Thanks to the VCR. I didn't miss an episode of the XFiles.
X-Files is so good. Thanks for watching!
Oh man...this one had me on the edge of my seat the entire time! That's RARE these days...I'm so addicted to these Alter shorts...sooo many of them, just like this one, are silver screen worthy! Amazing acting and story line on this one 😯😊

Thanks so much!
Very Intense loved every part including the anime women involved!
Thanks mate!!!
I loved the film. I hope its a sequel because the end scene on the porch confused me
Not a sequel but a proof of concept short. Small part of a bigger story. The final scene is just kicking off another missing person case
What a fabulous 3rd act! I would love to see the first two!
This comment is gold. Yeah it's basically a trimmed version of the third act of the planned feature (proof of concept short)... lots more story to tell. Thanks, we hope to make them soon!

Wow, yeah. This would make a GREAT series, I would absolutely watch it myself! I would totally love to see that for you guys. I hope to see Evenfall become the next big series, it certainly has the potential! If it does, please keep the same actors bc they're absolutely bloody amazing!
Thanks a heap for the support. It really means a lot. I'm literally working on the script for the next short which reunites Ayla and Jack. Same Actors. Then we'll be pitching the feature. From there we'll see, we'd love to launch into more films or a limited series.
Man...wow. So much to unravel here. I loved every bit of this. Would love to see a full feature length of this with more back story. Great work!

Im a bit confused on the ending. Was this just him getting yet another case? The high octane music made me think there was some plottwist lmao
Other than that enjoyable from start to finish!
Thanks mate, you're correct it's Ayla asking him for help with another case... implying that their unofficial partnership has just begun
This is very intriguing to me. It shows how it could be if you Astral travel, and that's just one thing.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed our film!
Now we need a movie and their needs to be the beginning to tell us what is going on and why the girl was kidnapped, etc... Especially the detectives daughter.. Like we need the story leading up to that, that was like an ending of a movie.. Than we need the second one, when she shows the missing little boy.. Can definitely make two great movies outta this! 💯👌 That people will WANT to actually watch!! 💯💯🤷🏻♀️
Edited: Also we need to know, is the guy a dream walker, or can he go in other realms and leave his body behind, or is he astral projecting, like what is going on with him?! LOL!
Thanks for the support! Yep all of that will be answered in the planned feature. This proof of concept short really just throws you in the thick of it... Jack is Astral projecting.. but other dimensions become apart of the story later

It was really good. I was really deep into the story and the actors are amazing. I'm just a bit confused, when Jack is unconscious and the demon hold his spirit back while Ayla slowly walks towards the door, he grabs something near his shoulder then throw it at his own body in order to wake himself up and tell Ayla about the position of the killer ? What is it, I wonder

Thankyou!!!
why not calling the cops if you discover a hostage? Just for backup?
And if the guy saw s hostage tied , why not bringing at least scissors to cut it faster?
Fair point!
PH the not calling the cops is that in a remote town like Williams Mill... they are going to get there first easy and they also don't want to alert them early. Hence parking further back.
Unpredictable.
