Joy, I am so glad I found your channel! My initial reaction was: "no way there's another black girl in Japan doing exactly what I want to be doing right now!" lol. I am SO here for your journey so keep it up and keep posting so I can live vicariously through you lol! 😌👏🏽

This is really calming even with the little white noise in the background lol. I really like you voice! I'm a black girl in high school rn and I'm self studying Japanese! I love to see other black ppl learning Japanese/ going to Japan. I think I might wanna study there or just live there when I'm older. Good luck on all your endeavors!

Loved your video. We are in the process of moving to Japan now. I know learning Japanese is going to be a huge obstacle for me, because I have to also work a job remotely in the US. I envy you that you are able to attend language school. I would like to, but I am not sure yet if I can afford the time. But I will definitely attend if I can do it.

Wow that so cool I wanted to go to korean language school but was to worried it wouldn’t be for me so I’m gonna take the self study route until it’s time for me to take the proficiency test. It’s also interesting to see how different housing is in Japan and Korea I’m living in a goshiwon which is slightly bigger than your share house room but I have a personal shower as well.

I know how you feel about the small space. We moved from a 3,000 square foot home in Fresno, to a 1,000 sq foot space in Irvine, to a 550 sq ft place in Atsugi. The small space sucks. But smaller homes seem to be the norm here. There are lots of space saving devices and techniques. Try to spend more time in coffee shops and department stores and parks and other public places. Try to focus on the positives and the many wonderful things that Japan has to offer.

Hello! I just found your account~ can you do what's in my bag and/or a day in my life as a japanese language student?
I'm really wondering what Japanese language students bring to school 😭 do they bring huge bags? What stuff do you need in school: notebook? What type of notebook? Pen or pencil? Do you bring books?
I only see students talk about general things/school life in Japan but not information like this 😭 I hope this isn't weird and gets noticed 🫶🏼🫶🏼

I’m enrolled in the short term course which is 3 months long and it costs ¥195,000 (which is roughly $1,400 USD)

    • @justforjoy

There’s A LOT of students in my class that are 26 and over but I’m not exactly sure what the age limit is. I was actually so surprised because I thought everyone was younger!

I’ll definitely make a video talking about it but I feel like it’s too early in my experience to know exactly. My spending has been sporadic and inconsistent so i’ll definitely talk about it when I find my rhythm.
