    Am I the only one thinking Anduin is going through the same thing his father went through? We never saw what Sylvanas did to him. Dont you think Anduin's soul was split? Him not being able to use the light makes me think the Jailer took his light soul and gave it to the Light as part of the deal. Anduin might be the true child of light and shadow if he gets his other half back. Just like his papa.

      I can see that happening. And to tie another to this story, it'll be Sylvanas that find his other half and returns it as the final piece of her atonement.

      @@Krim04I do think it would be useful to "right the wrongs" of shadowlands from a literal story perspective, but from a soft retcon/meta sense as well. The cinematics with anduin and syvlanas were awesome in shadowlands but a lot was really messed up with how they told that story.

    This story was totally heartbreaking. There's no one who can write Anduin's character( and PTSD) better than Christie Golden. I'm going to miss her so much.

    I've read this three times. And cried every time. Christie is an amazing author. And with two brothers and a former brother-in-law with PTSD from military things, the whole Anduin thing has been hurting since he opened his eyes in that cinematic. I saw that in his eyes and I can tell you from deep experience that whoever did that illustration has people they know with that stare. Anduin's actions in that story are so much my brother's actions. The regrets, the fears, the nightmares. One of my brothers drew a gun on me when I went to wake him up one evening. He had been having a nightmare and he never slept without his gun next to him. Thankfully I knew how to stop and start talking to him until he came back. From then on, I started calling his name the moment I hit the top of the stairs so I didn't surprise him. My younger brother lost himself one night, and when I went to his apartment to try to talk him down, (and was talking the moment I opened the door), he jumped me in the dark (he had all the electricity off by pulling the fuses) and held his combat knife to my throat. Both men shook for HOURS after those times. I still don't know what all they saw back then (and we're all in our 60s, my older brother passed away in 2020 from cancer, my older sister in 2016 from the same thing). My older sister's first husband was in Vietnam and one night he got drunk (he drank to sleep without the nightmares) and was found by the police crawling around the bushes in the park, he was back in the jungles. What kicked it off? My sister had purchased a dress that was cut like a dress from that area and when she modeled it for him, it tripped something in his head. He ended up in the psych ward for a couple weeks and they ended up divorcing because he was afraid he would hurt her.
    War and guilt does some horrible things to people and they spend the rest of their lives learning to deal with it. Christie and the illustrators have nailed it.

      Thank you for giving your personal anecdotes about your family. I've never dealt with anybody who is going through such a thing other than my neighbor, who was a victim of agent orange in Vietnam. Never saw his PTSD in action, but it sure did affect him. I hope that things can progress in the right direction for those family members of yours.

    This video didn't break me. It healed me. -- I haven't cried like I just did in Ages. -- I've been struggling with a Darkness inside for a long time. I'm a Vet that served for 15 years, I got out the same year I lost my Mother. My Mom died 4 days before my Birthday, and was cremated on my Birthday. -- I felt as though I lost purpose. I died inside, I felt nothing. As if my "Light was Gone" -- This short story made me see myself for what was shrouded inside, not lost, but only hidden within the Darkness. -- I still have my Light, this story has shown me that.
    "All the Darkness in the World, Cannot Extinguish a Single Candle"
    I never expected a Video game that I've been playing for 20-years, to make me feel again.

Thanks for sharing your story, and thank you for your service. Know that you're never alone, and that that Light will never abandon you, no matter how much Darkness you have to sift through to find it. Much love, brother. ❤

    As someone with DID, PSTD & a few other things, I also work with some War Vets. Who because of how I am tend to find it easier to talk about their experiences with me & honestly this is very well written. Effort was definitely made to try & convey how he is feeling, what he is going through & what it is like. To understand & try show others.
    It isn't the same for everyone, but this is a very good example of what it can be like.

    Good stuff, Pyro. These stories are so ungodly well written. It's one thing that WoW and other story franchises like WH40K are absolutely the tops at in the writing world.
    This is also true of the Legion quest where you get involved with the mana addict (no spoilers). Whoever it was that wrote that quest line and the people that implemented it...clearly had some direct experience with dealing with an addict on the way to recovery. I can tell you, sadly from experience, that this quest, unlike most, absolutely brought me to tears. I've been the player character in that scenario IRL way more than I care to remember. And the way that quest ran, all the way to the end, was absolutely real. A masterpiece of storytelling in game, which is rare.
    Pathos? Yeah. Blizzard and Christie do be good at pathos sometimes.
    There aren't many quests in the game that have had that kind of impression on me, but that's one of them. Along with the necklace quest in the Burning Crusade and the Bridenbrad quest in WotLK, which absolutely buried me for a few hours (to name a few, there are more). These books are just proof that it could be done a lot more.
    I wish more than anything that MMORPG character quest designers understood just how good those quests are, and it's because of the writing, not because of the gameplay or the systems. It's just a damned good story. I treasure those quests when they come around. Wish there were a lot more, tbh.

My father passed away in Jan. of 2017, so I resonated with Anduin's story even more throughout the Legion expansion, and continue to do so with his story and journey and with my own personal struggle and recovery with mental health and past trauma.

    As a combat vet with ptsd, this short story got me shook. There's so many layers of relatability with Anduin to see what he's subjected to endure. It's a terrible thing to be self aware to the point that you understand what you are capable of, and be terrified of it. Not for your sake, but for others. There comes a point where you have to dine with your demons. Get to know them, and don't let them define you. You are above your scars.

    • @Zeldafreak3
      @Zeldafreak3 6 месяцев назад +1

      I have a theory that the light that non-Draenei/non Night Elves use actually IS from Azeroth herself. Draenei have the crystals/Naaru,and it’s been canonically written in several novels that when Tyrande uses her priestess powers,the moon (Elune) shines brighter. But nothings been written about what,if anything happens when other races use the “Light” other than it’s gentle and radiates warmth.

    • @melzied84
      @melzied84 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@Zeldafreak3 I can agree with that. I’ve always seen the Naaru as suspect. I think Xera and Turalyon and alternate Yrel prove that. I do remember in a story where I think Velen said Elune was like the Naaru and Tyrande got angry. They highlighted that for a reason I think. So yeah we may be dealing with two different types of “The Light”.

      @@melzied84 on a side note,is it too cheesy to say that I sorta want Wrathion to help Anduin with the super cliché “what I learned while on dragon isles…” talk? Lol

  • @chris-hz1pc

    Fuck it. This is my thoughts. Azeroth is the love of Sargeras, they were all living together happily in “titan land”,until a brother of sargeras ,Aman'Thul become jealous or had seen the power in subjugating another titan and locked Azeroth away in a world, maybe not the first or last time he has done this. Sargares rebels and because of the gained power aman’thul cast sargares into the twisting nether. Aman’Thul creates the story of the threat of the void and sargares has been “driven” mad to wipe it out. Skip forward, sargares cleaving the planets with his burning legion is him trying to find Azeroth and in the mean time also wiping out void planets, because they are also a creation of Amun’thul… in the last titan I think the Amun’thul sides with the void as we learn more of his true intentions and we rally with sargares to storm arman’thuls void palace to free Azeroth.

      Why wouldn't he be sad about something. What does Anduin Wrynn have to be happy about?
      His mother died at childbirth.
      His father got kidnapped during Anduin's formative years, and returns aggressive and transformed.
      Then he and his father butt heads over how to handle a war in Pandaria, a quest that Anduin nearly loses his life at.
      Then his dad gets killed by a giant demon army and he is then forced to lead an Alliance that wants nothing to do with the Horde during the time they need friends the most.
      Then he is forced to lead a war against a vastly older and more experienced field commander in which his faction suffers grievously (that's all the soldiers: we'll be calling farmers next).
      Then he has to co-leads battle against an ancient cosmic void force.
      And then he gets mind-controlled almost immediately by a Cosmic entity of Death and forced to kill more of the very people he's responsible for, all the while a major part of his faction (Tyrande) goes rogue, and he nearly assists the destruction of the known universe.
      All this...before the age of 20.
