- The Andersson Brothers making a first test run of their Renault Kangoo with super charged Mercedes OM606 turbo-diesel. 400-500 hp is slightly more than the original 1.5 L diesel DCI engine.

Since a lot of particularly stupid comments have been coming in recently...
People reacting strongly to this based only on the fact that it emits black smoke for a couple of minutes must be a special kind of stupid. I would never deny that this is harming the environment, but the comments do clearly show a great problem we have today - people´s complete inability to see the whole picture.
Yes, this is not environmentally friendly. Yes, this is a case of amusement at the expense of the environment.
BUT, this car has run like this for not more than 15-30 minutes since it was built. This might be shocking news to people, but all cars pollute the air. Even electric ones. Most people owning a car do sometimes use it only for entertainment. Maybe they go for a long vacation, or maybe just going to the movies. Most people do also travel by other means just for fun. A single flight to a foreign country will cause more harm than this car during a few minutes. And please keep in mind that these minutes have amused millions of people.
Even seemingly harmless activities do a shitload of harm. People taking their car to the gym, running a skiing contest (all the preparation, logistics etc).
Most people do also entertain them in other ways which in some way cause CO2 (among other things) to harm the environment. What this boils down to is simply harming the environment while amusing oneself.
Many of these people have not spent a single minute reflecting upon how they affect the environment while amusing them self. Many of these people react to this simply because the smoke is black. These people are either stupid or ignorant.
Either way, most comments do not only show the tragic narrow-mindedness of people, but also the lack of interest in having discussions. What's interesting to these people is releasing some built up pressure and aggression by spewing out a few medieval insults, not actually taking part of any kind of intellectual dialogue.
The next shocking truth to many people is probably that RUclips is not a democratic forum, and I have no interest in offering breathing room to various Internet trolls on my channel. This is why I do not accept attacks on me or anyone else - including environmentalists.
And please leave Greta Thunberg out of the comments.

OM 606 is one of the best engines ever made. Cummins 5.9 is right up there too, but double the weight nearly double the size.

You are right. I am a pretty good mechanic but my friends who built this are quite a few steps ahead. Especially when it comes to TIG welding.

@Agent 036 NWO i've driven sloppier cars. it's just a tall ass clio with room for two motorcycles, and the first properly built minivan (quiet, roomy, light and compact).
The 90's were full of hydrid/bastardized superminis turned into vans. the kangoo cranked that up a notch, and thanks to it, now minivans are far better than ever before.
some times i wish volvo did minivans though. imagine a 4wd, 20 valve turbo brick with room for a buggy inside..

It's probably not as close at it seems. Had some zoom. I do however remember my hands (and probably also my balls) was more like ice because of the cold.

You can do all of this with stock cango too... It's all ice. it'd be more impressive if this was done on asphalt....
actually not. First of all, a stock Kangoo is FWD. Second, to keep any kind of control on ice you need tyres with huge spikes.
And huge spikes requires a lot of power.
I participate in speed weekend on ice yearly. A lot of people come there with 400+ hp and believe they can go 300 kmph. Fact is that it requires a lot more.

The description is incorect. There was no 1.5 DCI on 4x4 Kangoo, only gas and 1.9 Diesel.
This is not a 4x4 Kangoo and it never was.
Can someone explain to me why there is so much smoke? Is it because it's running for the first time? Or is it burning oil? Or something else maybe?

Thank you on the behalf of Andersson brothers. They are friends of mine and are pretty darn skilled. I helped out with the electronics for the gearbox, but they made like 99.99% of it all.

Seriously why the smoke? Have a straight pipe om606 g wagen 1 puff of smoke on startup and then always clean why the smoke ?
I did not make this so can't answer for those who did. It is obviously running rich, but I guess making it run very clean at 300% the original power output is not very easy.
Also, this was quite an early run. This car was used just a few times, and the project is now put on ice (pun intended). Not really for the daily commute.

Not sure I understand. It has both a turbo (Holset HX40 Super) and a super charger (Eaton M90).

Don't worry. There are probably not many production cars (except for performance cars) with both super charger and turbo but I guess there are a few. :)

Will probably come. They blew a piston during Speed Weekend on Ice so the engine needs some fixing. I am pretty sure there will be some asphalt action the upcoming summer.

Så en manuell planetväxellåda? har du manuell koppling också? eller momentomvandlare? Har du skruvat ihop en egen kontroller för att få den helt manuell eller finns det folk som gör sånt? tack på förhand och riktigt coolt bygge! Ett + för att d ä Renault! :)
Lådan är i princip en vanlig automatlåda med momentomvandlare. Den enda skillnaden är att hydrauliken för växling styrs med solenoider (ventiler) istället för olika systemtryck och hydraulisk logik.
När lådan sitter i Mercedes E300 så sköter ett särskilt styrdon växlingen, och lådan beter sig då precis som en vanlig automat med körlägesväljare och allt. Dock så har styrdonet möjlighet att fintrimma växlingarna efter oljetemperatur, körprogram etc.
Jag har byggt en egen styrenhet till Olle och Lasse (som byggt Kangoon). Denna är rätt dum, och anpassar sig inte efter oljetemperatur mm utan jag har bara hårdkodat växlingstider, hydraulryck (styrs analogt) mm för att gardera mig.
Det är också lite knivigt att faktiskt få någon återkoppling på vilken växel som faktiskt ligger i så systemet räknar kallt med att den växel som valts hoppat i. Missar den en växling så blir allt fel sen men med rätt oljenivå i lådan och vältränad växlingssekvens så funkar det bra.

Den controller jag byggt är baserad på Arduino Mega, så den programmerar man i något C-liknande språk. Men själva mikrokontrollern (ATmega1280) kör ju "maskinkod" som kompilerats från detta.

Jodå de är smidiga till sådana här projekt som är under ständig utveckling. Har kört mycket PIC-controllers innan, men det är inte varje gång det känns så hemskt kul att designa och tillverka nya kretskort för varje pryl.
