  • Black Bell 222 Helicopter startup and takes off. Is filmed flying and at top speed during fly-by flight before landing.
Step into the world of aerial legends with this Black Bell 222 helicopter, a sleek and powerful aircraft that pays homage to the iconic Airwolf. With its striking black exterior and dynamic design, the Bell 222 captures the essence of the legendary helicopter from the beloved TV show.
This Black Bell 222 is a stunning piece of aviation history that echoes the design brilliance of Airwolf. Its sleek, all-black exterior exudes an air of mystery and power, reminiscent of the iconic TV helicopter. The aerodynamic lines and rotor system of the Bell 222 contribute to its unmistakable resemblance to the fictional aircraft that captured the imaginations of viewers around the world.
    History of the Bell 222:
The Bell 222, introduced in the late 1970s, is a real-world marvel with a history deeply rooted in the evolution of modern helicopter technology. Designed and manufactured by Bell Helicopter, the 222 was initially developed for corporate and VIP transport. Its spacious and luxurious interior, combined with advanced avionics, made it a popular choice among high-profile individuals and business executives.
Over the years, the Bell 222 became a symbol of elegance and performance in the helicopter industry. With a twin-engine configuration, it demonstrated enhanced safety and reliability. Its smooth flight characteristics and ability to hover in tight spaces showcased its versatility.
    The Airwolf Connection:
The Black Bell 222 gained additional fame due to its association with the iconic TV series "Airwolf," which aired from 1984 to 1987. In the show, Airwolf was a highly advanced and heavily armed helicopter, piloted by Stringfellow Hawke, portrayed by Jan-Michael Vincent. The helicopter served as a high-tech espionage tool, capturing the imagination of audiences with its futuristic features.
While the fictional Airwolf was a modified version of the Bell 222, the real-world helicopter gained a renewed sense of admiration and popularity through its on-screen counterpart. Fans of the show often draw parallels between the Black Bell 222 and the legendary Airwolf, appreciating the tangible connection between reality and fiction.
In summary, the Black Bell 222 stands not only as a remarkable helicopter in its own right but also as a tribute to the timeless allure of Airwolf. This sleek and powerful aircraft represents a convergence of real-world engineering and the fantastical realm of television, creating a lasting legacy in both aviation history and popular culture.

In 1986 i was working in Long Beach, California. They filmed an episode of Air Wolf where I was working Unfortunately the real Air Wolf did not sound anything like the one on TV. Still it was pretty cool to see both Air Wolf and the Santini Air helicopters in person .We got to see them fly in and land.

That is one beautiful Helicopter and ever since I started looking at airwolf I loved the base helicopter for airwolf. The Bell 222 and 230 and so on are beautiful helicopters and this may seem crazy but the part of love most of all is when the landing gear is lifts up.I guess you can call that nostalgic because I just remember watching airwolf and hearing that music when ever airwolf lifts off.Again one of the most beautiful helicopters ever made.

I worked on the Duce for many years. I didn't see any evidence of grease from the main rotor before or after the flight. They are required to be lubed every 25 hours or after flying in rain. The Maintenance Manual also requires it to be purge lubed, if it's not slinging grease, it hasn't been lubed properly.

    • @RacerXGTO
      @RacerXGTO 8 лет назад

It was a plain 222B with custom made side panels, nose panel and faux missile pods. The chain guns were detachable pieces for movie effect. The chain gun animation where they ''pop out'' was just a model assembled on a bench with a broom stick and rope operation. Outside of that, there was nothing really special about the helicopter itself. After production, the helicopter panels were removed and stored. Later they were purchased and are currently owned by one very internet famous Airwolf fan responsible for creating the Airwolf CD re-mastered tracks. He has since outfitted those panels on a non-flying Bell 222B airframe.

Sadly the aircraft used in filling the show Airwolf. Was destroyed in Germany. It was converted for use as a medi-vac helicopter, and crashed while in use. So it actually did save lives, just not by shooting rockets and guns at things.

You have a good point...Back when I produced this video RUclips copyright policy was more stringent. The silent portion of the video had the music but I had to remove it. I'm working on another video that will play the theme song...Stay tuned! Thank you for commenting!

Can you imagine having a Bell 222, painting it black, and NOT painting the belly white? I mean c'mon man.

  • @c.carney1948

Yes good looking helicopter, but pilots tell me the 222A was under powered and didn’t have lone enough tail boom, so the tail lacked authority over the aircraft. But still good look and that 2 blade design sounds awesome.

Actually the Airwolf was a Bell 222 with bodywork :)

Glenn Jacobsen you mean to tell me that all 222’s don’t have rockets that drop out of the bottom and guns that spring out from the landing gear

Make Up Your Mind inator of course they do, they just miss the bodywork.
