    What would be the difference between and transpose but with actual warp mode on?

    • @warpacademy
      @warpacademy  4 года назад

      The transpose function with Warping will degrade the audio quality due to realtime pitch shifting and time stretching.

  • @sid3walk
    @sid3walk 7 лет назад +1

    So how about different transpose modes? I bet that beat or complex uses same freq. shift algorithm but more quality one

    • @AceOfficial

      And need to warp to ensure the length of the clip. But warping a clip "destroys" quality. So maybe using frequency shifter is a good alternative.

    • @sid3walk
      @sid3walk 7 лет назад

      SmEn nEmS
      warping is simple word to describe complex algorithm. And i bet it uses same freq. shift idea, but optimized for quality pitch shift as it mostly tool neither effect like Frequency Shift audio effect.

    • @tensegrity222
      @tensegrity222 7 лет назад +2

      It not the same idea. warping uses granular synthesis. The frequency shifter is a unique way to additively shift frequencies rather than mulitplying them like transposition. This only works on drums, it will detune instruments in an unusable way where its harmonics are out of tune with itself

  • @AishawithanEye
    @AishawithanEye 4 года назад

    I've seen a couple tutorials on tuning drums now but I haven't seen an A/B comparison that shows whether it really matters to making your mix sound better. Is it just aesthetic?

    • @warpacademy
      @warpacademy  4 года назад +1

      Well, the fact here is that drums are tonal. Each drum has a pitch. It's especially apparent on snares and toms, but also kicks. Hats and crashes tend to sound more like broadband noise, with less of a distinct pitch, but rides can be very tonal.
      So when a drum is out of pitch with your song, some people are going to overlook it, but others will notice and it'll sound clashy.
      Also of note is that drums that are pitched correctly will sum or contrast in interesting ways with other musical elements. For example, if your kick and bass is on the tonic, and your snare is on the minor third, and a tom is on the perfect fifth, then it could sound like an arpeggiated minor triad.

    • @warpacademy
      @warpacademy  5 лет назад +3

      Absolutely. Kicks, snares, toms are all very tonal. Cymbals / hats are more like white noise and usually don't usually have a keenly pronounced fundamental that's easy to spot in a spectrum.

    BUT WHAT ABOUT COMPLEX PRO OR TONES

    • @warpacademy
      @warpacademy  5 лет назад +1

      Hey Michael. As we'd mentioned in the video, using the transpose function with Warping will degrade the quality of the audio noticeably with drums, especially if you're shifting the pitch down. If you use the Repitch Warp mode, then it won't, because the timing is changed (the audio will simply play faster or slower like in a sampler). We prefer the result you get with the Frequency Shifter method, as long as the shift isn't too extreme.
      The main difference to note is that the Frequency Shifter doesn't preserve the harmonic relationships in a sound with overtones, whereas using pitch shifting will. This means the more extreme the shift, the weirder (for lack of a better word!) the drum will sound with Frequency Shifter. Cheers!

Keep in mind, there are also sample packs that have pre-tuned kicks and snares and they note the tunings in the sample name. That's even easier. Here's one: www.warpacademy.com/store/leviathan-2/
