So what do you think? Do you think others are right in moving him down boards? Or do you think he should still be at least OT2? I'd love to hear what you guys think! Apologies for the shorter video - the JJ McCarthy video is going to be another one that takes a while to edit, but I anticipate it'll be out at some point in the next two weeks! In the meantime, please be sure to check out all my other breakdowns on this channel and my second channel, as I've been working super hard to get them all out and would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks guys! Check out my Troy Fautanu Scouting Report on my Second Channel: ruclips.net/video/7B5TgYcgwGk/видео.html
Great analysis man! Btw, I checked out the Jayden Daniels vid, great stuff. I think the reason Olu is falling off is a combo of things - people are paying more attention to other tackles in the draft like Fautanu, Fuaga, and Latham (who I think was downgraded because of 1 bad play against Michigan and the lack of success in the NFL from other 'Bama tackles). Another is "player fatigue". Even in the 2023 draft there were ppl saying he may have been the 1st tackle taken if he had declared then. I think when ppl have analyzed a player to death, and see other good prospects, the shine wears off a bit on a guy for no real good reason. Lastly is what you pointed out, there's still a lot to work on and he won't be a complete player entering the NFL (although almost every OT seems to struggle their first year in recent history). I think the Jets would be a perfect landing spot where he can sit behind a guy like Tyron Smith and keep developing.
Thank you, I really appreciate it! I think that's a really great explanation for why he's falling. On top of the reasons you stated, I'd add that it's also just the extra year of non-progression. He would likely have gone in the top 5 in 2023 because he was 20 years old, with the idea that he'd get better as a run blocker and refine his hand usage. But then he went back to school and didn't really progress on his weaknesses. Even though he's still really young, it's just an extra year of lost progression. That doesn't factor in as much as the factors you gave, but I thought it was interesting. This is also just a much better OT class than last year! I also agree that the Jets are an excellent landing spot for him. He'd be able to develop behind Tyron and get some game action when Tyron inevitably goes down for a few games here and there. Then once Smith is off his one-year deal, we'd ideally have a high-level pass protector. From what I've heard, Joe Douglas leans Fuaga, but you can never trust what you hear during the draft cycle so it's a possibility!
@@TheJumboPackage Great points! As a Jets fan, I've pretty muched digested any and all info I can find on the OT prospects in this draft. I absolutely love Fuaga's run blocking and his anchor - you're just not pushing the guy back when he gets his base set. That being said, I would have no issue at all with a guy like Fashanu - his ceiling is just so appealing - and I don't see a viable replacement on the roster for when Tyron misses games unless Carter Warren makes a substantial leap in his 2nd season.
@@lightxgrenade Haha not sure if you know, but I'm a Jets fan as well! I like Fuaga, but I do have Fashanu higher because I just value his ability in pass protection much higher. I think Fuaga would be a better guard than tackle, but I also think that versatility to be a starter at both spots makes him valuable. A lot of people really like Carter Warren so I'm hoping he takes that step. I need to go back and watch his tape some day because I wasn't able to scout him last year! Very happy we got Tippmann though, he was one of "my guys" in the 2023 draft.
@@TheJumboPackage aaayyy always awesome to see a fellow Jet fan! I'm really glad we got Tipp as well. Kinda saw that one coming - massive player for his position that moves very well? That's what JD dreams about lol. That's why if we trade back but still intend to take an OT, I wouldn't be surprised if JD just cant resist his past tendencies and goes for a guy like Mims. But for me it's Fashanu 1st in terms of realistic options at 10 for OT. The upside plus the need with Tyron's history makes him too valuable to pass up IMO.
@@lightxgrenade Yep haha, I was in awe of how well he moved at his size, it was insane. I wouldn't be surprised if we take any of those guys. I could see JD liking any of Fuaga, Mims, or Fashanu. I love Mims personally, but he's so injury prone that I think its best if we stay away from him given our track record. I ultimately agree that we should be looking at Fashanu, especially if we can trade back a few spots, steal a later pick, and then take him. That'd be awesome!
Bears fan here I know I’m supposed to like Joe Alt but O plays with aggression like he wants to hurt you not made if we get the guy that blocked for Caleb Williams in high school!👍🏼🧸⬇️
Ive been hearing commentators rip his *RUN BLOCKING* . So, he has basically went anywhere in the top 10 to in the teens now. Its on par with other position players... like the DB from clemson falling, WR ozunde falling to the teens, DT newton falling to the 20s, cooper beebee falling to mid 2nd rd, etc
Yep, even I will admit that he’s a very poor run blocker. I think it’s fair for him to fall down boards if he struggles with half of the position, but I think he’ll be able to put it together and become a high level OT.
That’s how drafts work , doesn’t matter when u can always improve ur game , some of the best players in the league today and in history r not first rounders or second rounders
I think I first heard it on the NFL Stock Exchange Podcast with Connor Rogers and Trevor Sikkema and I noted it for later because I thought it was funny. I did look it up and was able to confirm it in a few articles!
He moves well in pass pro, and his anchor/flexibility are solid, but that's about it. His hands are small and completely lacking in punch, he's got inferior upper body strength, rarely leverages length to protect his chest, and tends not to control/redirect stronger rushers. the ohio state game was bad, and certainly had the worst lowlights of his season, but imo the michigan game was even more concerning. the fact that his technical instincts are - let's call it what it is - just awful completely removes any confidence i have in his floor as a pro. and as a run blocker he is outright terrible. i wouldn't take him inside of the top 25 picks. i think he's far likelier to bust than to become an above average starter. fitting that it was the jets who overdrafted him with fuaga still on the board.
1 - I'd like to point out that I appreciate you taking the time to actually write out why you disagree with me instead of just calling me an idiot lol. I always ask people at the end of these videos to write their opinions in the comment and some people just say "he'll be a bust" with no explanation for why, so I appreciate you taking the time to start a substantive discussion! 2 - I tend to agree with much of what you said, but I put much more emphasis on his pass blocking and I think that his weaknesses in run blocking can (a) be hidden, and (b) be improved with NFL coaching and increased strength as he gets older (he's one of the youngest players in the draft). Totally agree that he doesn't control blocks and redirect rushers, but as a pass blocker he does a great job staying square to defenders and he generally doesn't let players run through him unless he makes some kind of technique-related mistake, which I think is a combination that makes him a high-floor pass blocker. I'm a Jets fan and I personally love the pick, but of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Thanks for commenting!
I do not like Fashanu. I don’t think he’ll be a good tackle. If he fixes his footwork he could be an ok guard but I personally don’t like him. I personally don’t think he has great range either.
He’d be an awesome pick for sure! My only concern with him going to the Steelers is that Arthur Smith leans heavily on the run game so I don’t see him loving Fashanu since his run blocking is very poor at the moment and will need a lot of work to even get to average. But I could see him taking those steps to become better at it!
