@@marksvideochannel3592 I agree. Luxon think ToW is the basis of some sort of partnership which is just wrong. The British Empire was not in the business of forming partnerships when colonizing the various parts of the world in the 19th century. It was conquer and rule.
David Seymour's insights on the Treaty Principles Bill protest are spot on! It's great to see such open dialogue around important issues. Thought-provoking and timely discussion-thank you for sharing your perspective!
Tino Rangatiratanga was a obvious reality in 1840 when 99 percent of the population was native and tribalised. That situation has been completely changed by 184 years of intermarriage and inter-tribal mixing. In today's world TR is a practical nonsense.
By simply letting a unique culture thrive in their own homelands. We as pakeha or foreigners should feel proud to work alongside them. This culture is one of a kind in the world, and I’m happy of how far they’ve come and will support them all the way
TR in the Maori text of the Treaty means the "full possession" of the English official text. Full possession rights means full ownership rights. I realise that other people interpret TR to mean "Maori sovereignty" but I believe that in the Treaty TR is saying that Maori and all the people of New Zealand have property rights.
Most Hikoi supporters could not articulate their issues with the bill. Some didn't even know what the bill content was. Just the usual rhetoric coming from TMP
@@solo_0001 GREAT, so please explain why you disagree with "the same treatment for anyone and not by race"...please. We are all open to a good reason why this is a bad idea but as David said here, no one yet has.
Yeah, when interviewed those that were, as we have seen , couldn’t say what they actually found wrong with the bills proposals, except to say to honour the (colonists) treaty, and condemning colonists but forgetting they themselves are of colonists blood. lol. Others said they were there simply to support others that were there and hadn’t read the bill at all, but felt strongly against it. So really goes to show the media beat up for TPM and did their job for them.
@ It comes back to the agreement of the treaty and tbh my own and family’s experience with this “Privilege” everybody who’s not Māori is telling me we get. The Bill implies that the treaty has been UPHELD this whole time when successive GOVT have clarified a long time ago the land reforms at the end of the 18th century and systemic racism of Māori stemming well into the 19th century was Severely mis handled. This has come along way though and I respect where NZ and it’s people have gotten to but this is in part the reason for all the “handouts”. Im not against equality but myself and alot of Māori that I’m related to and know Don’t understand all this privilege that we get, I have to wait at A&E for 4hrs like everyone else, all people from NZ are entitled to the benefit not just Māori, I was decent at sport but there weren’t no Māori scholarships for anybody I knew, is there a small percentage of Māori that are getting all this while the rest of us just live like everyone else? So in part I was at the Hikoi because I felt as though there trying to take away something we don’t even get.
We can't, we're working. The rest of us, the other 99.2% of us, are either employed or senior and the rest of the students are at school and other and don't agree with the 0.8%. How many of the protesters fall into those categories.

Equality in law is already in place. Not a single person in that march could tell you a single "Right" that they stand to lose. So the vitally important matter. is costing the taxpayer unnecessary money that will be voted down by National and NZ First in the second reading eg the Bill will die.
The thing I find interesting is that in 1840 the treaty was signed between the crown (being the British Empire) and Maori - but later the British Empire dissolved, and it was replaced by the NZ government. And the NZ government is there to represent us, as we elected them. So it makes sense that any changes to the way NZ operates has to be mandated by the people, and that the people be given a chance to make a submission.
Except that we have still not become a republic. We are still a dominion with the Crown as head of state. Which means the Crown still rules NZ and the Maori chiefs still have a Treaty with the Crown. So it does not matter if the Empire dissolved because the Treaty is with the Crown. And the Crown still rules NZ unless we become a republic.

I agree. Also, cultural identity is an individual choice. That choice us largely influenced by one's life experience. For example, most Singaporean have Chinese ancestry but because Singapore used to be part of Malaysia, they are also very much influenced by the Malay culture.
This is because the world and the system of the world wants ONE culture. There are many cultures in the world and people need to think for themselves instead they are told what culture should be and follow like little lambs.

Quite a history about the Maori - put the Inca's or the Aztecs to shame in degeneration. Outcast from the Cook Islands during the 13th century as weaker primitive Neolithic people by later waves of Polynesians (Maori were from the original wave of primitive Polynesians pushed right out across the Eastern Pacific by successive stronger more advanced groups arriving from the west). They were outcast on rafts and some floated to the North East Coast of NZ driven by the South Equatorial Current and were stranded for 500 years. The weaker were pushed down to the South Island or Chathams etc. So the South Island Maori (had their own language) were the weakest of the weak. They were captured and eaten as 'Slave flesh' by the northern Maori doing raids. (Well they all ate each other - 80% of Maori pre European were dark skinned easily fattened slaves farmed and eaten by a lighter skinned 'Ariki' thin wiry elite royal caste). So it was with some righteousness as well as British cunning that they armed the southern Maori who then with muskets launched a genocidal war on the north.. That plus measles & flu halved the Maori population and removed most of the elite. The British then liberated the slaves and outlawed cannibalism. The northern Maori fought with the British against the south bad west Maori 'rebels'. The Maori sued for peace and a treaty was signed that removed all sovereignty and made them subjects to the English crown where the English would protect them from each other. Land could only be sold to or via the Crown. Maori could live on their reservations with native custom but none did. The treaty of Waitangi is strikingly clear in that the Maori cede sovereignty completely and become citizens of Great Britain - all 3 clauses lock that in. Nothing in today's 'Maori' culture is authentic. The music - all European (Maoris did not have tonal music, the songs are missionary tunes or introduced - Poi dance is from Islands and Stick dance from old Malaya. The carvings and art - all European - Arabesques that was the fashion at the time. Original Maori had limited dash carving and no painting of objects. No written language - all the syntax & grammar plus vowel inflection is European. No technology - some lagoon canoes and wood or stone Neolithic tools. No food sources - like pigs or crops - they left that all behind, all they had was a weak inbred fox (now extinct), some rats and a weak dismal pacific yam. They ate out all the bird-life including 10 species of Moa and 46 other bird species, didn't know how to farm the sea as were island people and so they turned to societal cannibalism. Today - no full blood or half blood left. No genuine tradition and almost all are offspring of Maori slave females sold to white settlers for muskets or food. -So more fake than the 'Sioux' or 'Cherokee' or 'Crow' who had at least retained some genuineness about who they were and their history. -Everything you 'saw or experienced' is fake. David you are you doing the right thing. The Maori people are not New Zealand’s native people. This has been proven so often. Why do we keep saying they are. Let's take a New Zealander alive today, who happens to be highly wealthy and successful and who's ancestry is 50% Chinese, 25% European and 25% Maori. Which side of the Treaty is this person on exactly? Oppressed, oppressor or neither? Is it right and fair that this person and their kids are currently entitled to claim special privileges and entitlements over the rest of us? e.g. race based scholarships, easier access to Uni courses, preferential and discounted access to public medical services, unelected seats on local government, seperate voting rights, dedicated seats in parliament, etc. Or should all of us as New Zealanders be entitled to the same equal set of rights and responsibilities instead? Would it be so bad if government spending, policy and laws were directed based on need, not on ancestry or self identified race? If we took this approach, then wouldn't groups most in need still get most of the help anyway, just without being racist about it?
I agree with you totally. Also verifying whether someone has Maori ancestry will become harder say 10 years from now. Current approach is not only unfair but also unsustainable. We need to see there will be problems ahead so we should fix this now.

Obviously the opposition to the Act Bill is motivated principally by fear, and fear can have multiple causes. Seymour is doing a good job in alleviating some of that. I suspect the intensity of fear will diminish fairly quickly. Seymour might find someone to steel-man the opposition argument, as this might add context and realism which is often easier to deal with, than the "Sky is falling" arguments, which are commonly repeated. The accusation the Seymour is "rewriting the Treaty" is pure projection. That is what they have been doing for 50 years. I am still undecided as whether the bill as written is better or worse than the "no principles" argument. I like the Act Bill in part because I am a lifetime republican, and think the Bill solves some problems in that area. I am already sure delay in the hope of unity would be a mistake. Support is building.
I would say David's bill is better. NZF's proposal still leave some pieces of legislation referring to the principles of ToW. Thus those laws are still open to future court interpretation.
The final English draft is the one we should be following, not the James Freeman rogue treaty, anyway equal rights for ALL Not superior rights for some, you don't agree with that?
Could someone get former Act party president Tim Jago his views on this. Is he able to do interviews where he is currently at? Or is ACT trying to get that swept under the carpet as well

Thanks, David and Michael for clarifying NZ First's position on the Treaty Principles and that of ACT NZ. If NZ First's proposal is to review the Treaty Principles only as they apply to selective legislation, then it will not achieve very much. The Treaty Principles Bill is a much better way - across the board - to limit the open-ended interpretations of the Treaty Principles by the courts and to ensure that all NZers are treated equally.
Seriously, New Zealand need a Treaty bill discussion? especially when half the country is struggling with employment and other critical issues. The divide-and-rule approach is no surprise. Why are we not addressing rising youth crime? Why are we not focusing on bringing more businesses to New Zealand? Why are we not ensuring our nurses and doctors are paid well so they don’t leave for Australia, ensuring everyone has access to quality healthcare? Why are we ignoring the issue of Christian pedophilia and child trafficking in New Zealand? Why aren’t we talking about the public sector laying off workers, which is putting immense stress on our economy as more people are forced onto welfare? It’s baffling that our leaders seem focused on division instead of solving real issues. I’m not Māori; I’m Jewish, and I know what Nazi Germany did to the Jews. This is how it starts-using the name of equality to scapegoat a community. This isn’t leadership. Seymour, you should be addressing the real issues New Zealanders are suffering from. What has the Treaty discussion achieved so far? It has led to massive protests, with half of New Zealanders taking time off work. Does that not cause financial loss to the country and add to mental stress? Give me a break, this isn’t equality; it’s triggering people because the government has nothing better to do.

Now that the treaty is up for discussion. It would be good if the treaty in Māori and English is made transparent on what it says and means not just sentences picked out from it and whether it's been honoured over the years in it's full entirety and who it did and did not benefit in order to further the discussion. Most people don't know. It was taught in schools once upon a time and there was no bickering and fighting then. Working together and not against each other is the only way to resolving anything. It's been done many times in the past so it can be done again. Peace 🙂
The British was governing NZ on the basis of the English version of the treaty. The Maori version was translated from the English version. Thus we should just use the English version to avoid confusion.
@stanleywang8524 The British don't govern the country anymore and haven't for a long time, New Zealanders do. It's up to the people to decide whar they want and the governing bodies to serve the people. That is how democracy supposedly works
@@Christina1Love I agree with you totally. However, things can get lost in translation as it's not always easy (or even possible) to find equivalent words in another language. We need to agree on using just one version of the treaty and the English version is the correct choice in my view.

@@chrismckellar9350 The treaty also stated that the chiefs were able to sell surplus land to the Crown, but only to the Crown. Defining anything using Roman Temple Court to articulate it, is a ruse for creating definitions that can later be amortised. Maori are right to complain butin this instance they are not complaining for the right reasons. Pakeha should wake up to a window for their natural rights is being closed under the ruse of a securing our future. The future being secured here is neither Maori or pakeha. Blue blood elite on the other hand?
Understanding our past to heal our future… Imagine if … You inherited your grandparents farm and another person (let’s call him the other fella -TOF) offered to help protect your farm and work with you for the well being of your farm and family. You think this is an ok idea because some of TOFs weren’t respecting your farm so this might be a good resolution… And like your grandparents you want to pass your farm on to your children/grandchildren... (Just quietly there was a bit of pressure T.O.F turned up in a warship bringing with him lots of TOF and guns). T.O.F hands you a contract in his language. You didn’t understand those terms so a Christian missionary (We’ll call him the God fella-GF) translates the contract into your language and rewrites parts to reflect your agreed terms - you sign that version. All seems well, you smile at your little patch in the sun, until you see T.O.F, and his mates, supplant your flag with their flag. And even have the cheek to erect some offices claiming they now own your farm. You tell them, nicely at first, to get! Even though their numbers far outnumber you. TOF ‘Point to the contract written in their language, with cocked guns in their hands declare “you said we could”. You realise that you had been tricked. The G.Fs at the time, being the supposed peacemakers, try to make things right but dont have any clout. So, some join in with TOF - others with you. You also realise they not only took over your farm but set up a new government meaning they could take all the farms of your cuzzy bros (CB) - even though you were once enemies you unite in the cause against TOF for your farms back. Many of those CB didn’t even see/sign the contract to allow TOF to take their farms but was achieved through the introduction of land grabbing policies and military actions. Anyway … You want your farm back. You die. Your children take on that fight. They die. Generations pass and die fighting for what they know is right and legally theirs. TOF rule the land, for nearly 200 years. rule They own the media, and control the narrative. At certain time periods they throw you enough crumbs to keep you and the CBs quiet enough. But in 2024 times have changed. Social media has become a powerful tool to disrupt the dominant narrative and for the CBs to organise themselves. They take those crumbs and like a phoenix rising from the embers of the fire ascend onto to parliament grounds with the great crowd of witnesses cheering them on as first born sons and daughters to the lands - “we will not be wiped out of legislation at the stroke of a pen!” The CBs can’t get back their farms but the CBs will fight for their cultural inheritance as first born sons and daughters of Aotearoa-New Zealand - Niu Terini whatever you want to call her. The CB are no longer going to be told what is right. They know- God knows, some of TOFs, and GFs know. The land is crying out for justice, Like a women ready to give birth. So my question is What kind of baby are we birthing? One that acknowledges the past and want to be part of justice- healing our nation in unity? And honour? By Protecting our language and cultural heritage in legislation? OR a generation that wants to live in denial and disdain towards the CBs? Yes all kiwis belong to our nation but Aotearoa- New Zealand is the only homelands of the Māori peoples. Hobsons pledged ‘He iwi tahi tatou’ - While mainstream NZ would like us to believe this statement to mean ‘we are one people and we are now all TOF… The CBs intended that saying to mean ‘together we make a nation’ We have time to reconcile our differences - the CBs, TOFs, the GFs, and TOOF, for a better NZ for all. Together we make a nation. 🤍🙏🏽🥰

This has come along way though and I respect where NZ and it’s people have gotten to but this is in part the reason for all the “handouts”. Except that we have still not become a republic. We are still a dominion with the Crown as head of state. Which means the Crown still rules NZ and the Maori chiefs still have a Treaty with the Crown.

A totally convected disneyfied tokenistic set of inventions fueled by a grievance culture of mixed-race imposters fetishing a false past bad history because it pays benefits.
David Seymour has shown true strength, courage and leadership to stand up to what he (and many other NZders ) believes is fair and right.
Keep up you brave courage David, you are the voice of reason! Thank you so much!
Why is David the voice of reason? He like the Maroi Party are pleasing their supporters and wasting tax payer money that was agreed to in 1840, that the crown (being Queen Victoria at the time) will govern for all people being the settlers and Maori and the 'chiefs' retain ownership of all components of the land, except under excessive governments choose to ignore the land part hence the Maori Land Wars in the 1860's.
Imagine the in fighting if Maori had their own parliament.
That would be soooooo funny

I hear so much emotion from the Māori side and rationale from the other side. There seems such a perspective divide that may never be bridged. Hopefully we can at least discuss it in safe space.
Thanks, David and Michael for clarifying NZ First's position on the Treaty Principles and that of ACT NZ. If NZ First's proposal is to review the Treaty Principles only as they apply to selective legislation, then it will not achieve very much. The Treaty Principles Bill is a much better way - across the board - to limit the open-ended interpretations of the Treaty Principles by the courts and to ensure that all NZers are treated equally.
can someone please post a link to making submissions on David Seymour's bill?
Do gang members work? Other than selling drugs and not paying taxes.
You will not have foreign investment if you a co governance model where a business has to deal with an additional party who have power to derail a venture
Christian pedophilia is also a Jewish issue : epstein, maxwell etc. Many flee to Israel for Pete's sakes

So all the great maori all blacks, opera singers, artists, musicians, professionals, business people, sports people and even politicians only achieved because of the treaty of Waitangi giving them some sort of advantage over other New Zealanders. No David we compete with the best in the world and work hard. My British ancestor fell in love with my beautiful maori ancestor and like a number of early intermarriages they fought on the side of their maori families. The result was we signed a treaty to restore peace. We are proud of that history. The negotiations between tribal runanga and government can benefit our country by their support with new social, welfare and economic programmes. We already stand together as a nation, intermarried and building a future for all of our children.
The treaty is out of date now. New Zealand has more Indians than maori in 2024 and Chinese etc growing faster than any ethnicity!!! All the while there are still people laughably going on about the nation being bi cultural!! This is so quaint

Very interesting and informative. Thank you Michael and David. Why do we never mention the competing narratives of who is actually tangata whenua here in New Zealand. You know - Monica Matamua - Waitaha etc. Is this just too hard and complex and everyone is tired of it or something. I feel we won't make any progress until that issue is settled once for all.
I’ve got the answer, all identify as Maori, even when legal immigration has a process so when you get a passport you also swear in as identifying as Maori now. We are all Maori, sweet
If you agree with te Pati Maori, then you agree that current legal position is that there is two type of citizenry. I love my culture, and for the entirety of our people (the general New Zealand) it’s not ok to have two types of citizenry. I want equality; I don’t want equity. Māori are overepresented in many of the statistics in this country, to name a few..., health statistics, poverty, incarceration, children in care..Now... have you heard or listened to any of the apologies that the government has made to Māori.. Pacific Islanders.. (Dawn raids).. well I suggest you go look them up and come back and tell me what they apologised for... wait I'll tell you... mistreatment... harm, hurting, killing, land confiscating, that's what they did and that's what they apologised for .. now you mean to tell me Māori are all of a sudden supposed to trust this? @@ravenkama6922 this is the whole point, IF it is passed, there will be Equality....if you feel this treatment is still going on, EQUAL RIGHTS is beneficial to that situation!!!!
However, I would argue that for the most part equality is nearly here, in this day and age.
However, what are Maori leaders and elders doing to reduce health issues with Health problems (Smoking and poor diet levels remain high), child mortality, and education/truancy?
Maoris are overrepresented in all these areas, and there is very little public noise coming from Maori leaders to address this. It all seems to be political noise instead of looking inward and actually helping.
I think making everyone equal per Davids bill can only be of benefit to Maori. Anyway, I wish you well, whatever race you are or identify with. Have a great weekend.
@@marksvideochannel3592actually, the fact that the treaty principles are now incorporated into Healthcare is helping to address some of these issues. For example... the incorporation of kaupapa Māori approaches to addressing health issues that māori face makes more sense than an "equal" approach where māori are often marginalised, and experience racism in these settings is a directly impacts the health of māori.and if Seymour had his way... all fo that progress would be out the window..
I understand. They did some nasty shit to me and my family. But the way this is tracking, is victimhood, ad infinitum. Unbecoming for a race of warriors. The harsh reality is poor decision making. We have an oppurtunity here that shouldn’t be squandered. I am a proud Maori man with exceptional capabilities; I know my Maori brothers and sister share the same qualities. Let’s flex our ability by showing that we are capable of being precisely what our tipuna want us to be; which is leaders. But this is not the way.

Imagine if …
You inherited your grandparents farm and another person (let’s call him the other fella -TOF) offered to help protect your farm and work with you for the well being of your farm and family.
They take those crumbs and like a phoenix rising from the embers of the fire ascend onto to parliament grounds with the great crowd of witnesses cheering them on as first born sons and daughters to the lands - “we will not be wiped out of legislation at the stroke of a pen!”
The CBs can’t get back their farms but the CBs will fight for their cultural inheritance as first born sons and daughters of Aotearoa-New Zealand - Niu Terini whatever you want to call her.
The CB are no longer going to be told what is right. They know- God knows, some of TOFs, and GFs know.
The land is crying out for justice,
Like a women ready to give birth.
Hobsons pledged
‘He iwi tahi tatou’ -
While mainstream NZ would like us to believe this statement to mean ‘we are one people and we are now all TOF…
The CBs intended that saying to mean
‘together we make a nation’
We have time to reconcile our differences - the CBs, TOFs, the GFs, and TOOF, for a better NZ for all.
Together we make a nation. 🤍🙏🏽🥰
