  • In the latest episode of the Erik and Matt Show (EMS), Dr. Erik Axene and Matt Ball discuss the evolution of heart attack recognition and why the focus is shifting away from just identifying STEMIs. While ST elevation on an EKG is a critical indicator, it’s not the only sign of a heart attack.
As Matt explains, treating the patient-not just the monitor-is crucial. A patient presenting with classic symptoms like chest pain, pale and sweaty skin, but without ST elevation on the EKG could still be having a heart attack that requires immediate intervention. This is where the term OMI (Occlusion Myocardial Infarction) comes into play. Recognizing OMIs means ensuring no patient slips through the cracks just because their EKG looks "normal."
Don’t miss this episode-it could change how you approach heart attack care and save lives.
