- This project ended up taking me 4 days with 1 major mistake and for a total cost of almost exactly $2500. Let me show off my first DIY tiny house build and hopefully inspire you to take on a similar project of your own.

I really loved this video- I feel like most folks who post this kind of stuff come off super experienced and they make it look so much easier than it really is- seeing someone who is not so experienced and is totally honest about his mistakes and learning the hard way is refreshing, and makes it look and feel a lot more approachable for the average person which is awesome.
Thank you and I totally understand what you are saying. I'm just experienced enough to get in trouble and I like it that way. Keeps life interesting. Thanks for making me feel good brother.
10:59 Use your Miter saw to cut angles, it's behind you. Great vid bro, I've built 3 on site so far and it's been fun.
It's tough to watch a new wood worker struggle, I wanna scream through the video to give you suggestions to make things easier! Good job! You stuck with it and learned a lot.
lollll. im not the best but good enough. deff would staggered the sheathing and put more concrete blocks on the bottom but I love the can do attitude and building buy yourself is exponentially harder
Lol I was doing the same thing. But I honor the drive to do it.
Agreed. I am a hobbyist and I wanted to scream ridge cap and ground contact lumber. Also, nails! Nails. Lol. It was a great video though. Haha
Your enthusiasm and excitement is just so contagious. I absolutely love to hear the excitement in your voice. You are so so cool.
You are way cooler than me!
I agree! His enthusiasm is why I clicked on the video! Sometimes I hover over videos to see the vibe and his vibe is great!
Looks like you had a great time building that! Don’t worry about the mistakes. I’m on my second A-frame and I’m making all kind of mistakes. The pros make mistakes. Each project will get better and better with the experience that comes with those mistakes. Thank you for sharing.
This was built at my mother in laws property and I told the last comment if I keep getting these comments im going to get back out there and claim that land.
Next time turn joist hangers with support under joist,
Good work bro. I often revisit these videos.....it gives a good perspective. Also it reminds me to slow down and make things correct the first time.
I love how you first introduced the compound miter saw and then proceeded not to use it. 😂 But I do understand they are intimidating at first. Super fun to watch you build this, I’ve been thinking of building a cabin for my NM land. ❤
You should man in NM depending on where most counties have really relaxed building codes, even if you do break a few codes here and there nobody ever seemed to care unless youre trying to sell the property
You are so adorable. Love your tiny home. Can’t wait to see how you finish the inside. I’m hooked
Thinking of doing this build in the spring. Really great work, loved the video!
You did it.....🎉 i love it. Its way more room than a van if the mobility isnt needed. If living full time id build out like a van, same shower toilet concept. If just for fun, go wild. Plants will love all that light. 🌱🌳🌷🌻
This is actually on my mother in laws property and if I keep getting comments like this i'm going to have to get back out there and do something else. I just dont know what.
Great video. Love the vibe and honest emotions. I’m about to build my own cabin for the first time and this video definitely helps me prepare a lot
Measure first and don't cut your fingers off!
Thanks for making this video! I have the same plans, and I would have made the same mistake on the ends if I hadn't watched this. Nice looking cabin, well done! Looking forward to building one myself.
Very cool. Can't wait to see you seal it all up. Inspiring.
Me too! I'm still not sure what's going to be on the inside. Leaning towards a terrarium room sort of place but first i'm gonna take a break from the cabin and start some of the projects going on right outside of it.
Love it, this is the most down to earth build I have watched. No bs editing to try to impress your viewers I totally respect this. I built a gypsy wagon and put it by my pond my project is never done…Lol!
Thank you. I had a great time building it.
Yo, just stumbled across this. Well done. Always motivating to see the plans being used in the wild.
I made a few mistakes but I had a ton of fun doing it.
It was amazing watching you build this. Thank you!!!
Thank you. It was awesome building it.
You made this look so easy thanks for sharing
You're welcome :)
dude - you are hilarious! I loved this video
I wish was still this funny. I'm just recording whenever I feel like it now and I chuckle when I edit hahah.
Great video 🎉
Great video and congrats, its a lovely little house!
Love it😂 Squeezie tool.
Caulking gun... Great job buddy
This is at my mother in laws house. I just visited on xmas and it's lookin perdy shabby so I think I need to do an update soon!
I feel like this dude was unlocked from a padded room to do this video
This is awesome!! I laughed so hard at this video. „My brothers in construction“ as you drive by a home build 😂 you’re hilarious.
I’m building my first mini a frame cabin as well, and really needed to see someone else Go it alone, for the first time! Only thing I am worried about is that I won’t have electricity - I’m building off grid 😳
So glad you liked it and yes it was an experience for sure. But totally manageable and you can do it! Eventually you'll hook solar up and it won't be much different than hooking in through the city. Good luck living in the great unknown. Exciting!
Nice.
I woulda raised it up HIGHER to keep away from water and splash up otherwise you'll rot.
You oughta be the one that devises a A-frame house thst is built to be expanded later on without major reconstruction difficulties.
For instance, if you had a door out the back of this A-frame building then that would be the future connecting doorway into the new "doubled" add-on A-frame.
VERY nice!! I need to give this a try. Thanks!
10:15
japanese saw
you cut-force forward, so more square and easy (because not have to push).
Quality are expensive, but you cans just buy the saw and make the handle,
or Cheap who does not sit down, made in Germany
love your gumption!!!! love it all!!!
Very camp. Possibly glamp... have to wait and see the interior. ;)
Looks great.
I wonder if pallets would be a good foundation? Or maybe build it completely with pallets? Strong and free!😅
This is so encouraging, thank you!
Someone more talented than me could totally do that!
Fantastic 🎉🎉🎉😊
Is this still standing? Can we get an update? Enjoyed watching this. Stay busy!
Your Simpson hangers are upside down. They cradle the boards
Also. He didn’t lay the sheets down right. All written side Down. Not back an forth
The plywood sheets?
I realized that after the cabin was finished...the photo in my blueprint was confusing because it was upside down but that's because they were had it flipped. Oops. I'll know for next time.
Great work
I hope there are more support blocks in the future, those are some pretty long spans......
To be honest I haven't been to the spot in a while, but my mother in law says its holding up.
Hey! Does Etsy blueprints show you how to cut all the angles on each wood?
what abot the ridge cover
Thank you, thank you for not calling it a "tiny house"! I am so tired of that phrase that has been overused ad-nausium!!
I'd be pretty depressed if I had to live in this thing haha.
Hi, can you please post the floor plans.
Great video, thanks 👍
Just got back from my journey down the Eastern Box Turtle rabbit hole.
I’m pretty sure you had it right the first time
Im sure I did.
Youre So Awesome ❤ dude 😊🙌
I wish I was still this awesome.
@@DontMindRyan Looking Forward to new videos 🙌
Nice for the first time building. What other crazy screw sniffing ideas you have for this. Question: will it leak raining?
It does leak a bit...I built this at my mothers in laws house and got some sheet metal to cover the top but haven't made it out there to install. I sort of abandoned it for now but one day i'll find the inspiration and hopefully its the start to another something cool.
Maganda --- Beautiful Cabin.. watching from Philippines ❤
im scared of mice! Good job, but seal the gaps on the bottom please!
Is the floor upside down?
Ryan, The first thing you did wrong is you used a jigsaw to cut the plywood, instead of a circular saw. Next, after you cut the 2 x 4’s on the wrong side, you used a jigsaw that is used to cut metal on wood. Then you went back to the store and bought a hand wood cutting saw, when you had a mitre saw the whole time. That would have made it so much easier and faster to cut those 14 pieces.
lol...mistakes were surely made. I'm just glad I have all my fingers.
China called... they want their tools back.... Love this video, you got a new sub
That's a dewalt drill sir. lol. I'm no builder and i'll be the first to admit that, but at least I got this cabin done.
@@DontMindRyan lol .. trust me, I am impressed .
I also caught another of your videos with the finger drum and the heart to heart talk.
Beautiful talk and wonderful session
@@AlexBrandon. Thank you bro.
should have put the angle on your skill saw to cut those angle pieces.
I tried but the 25 degree angles were too sharp. It mentioned it in the blueprints that i'd have to hand cut them as well. I'm sure there is a way to rig a miter saw to do it though.
The saw is for fine cuts, great for trim.
Ahh gotcha. Next time I need to do a bunch of hand cuts I'm definitely going to research an easier solution. But I've still got trim work to do so that will work out great.
Jig saw rip cut 😢😢😢😢😢
Chop saw has your angles! Much easier? Always fun to build something! ENJOY 😊
There's a lot of tools I should have used on this build haha. I lived, I learned and i'll know much better for next time ✌️
Good job for a first timer I have a couple of questions if you don't mind what is the size of your base and what is the length and your roof rafters Good job thanks for sharing
Sorry about getting back to late. The base if I remember correct is 10X10 and the rafters are 12 foot long.
Good job Ryan. Are you going to enclose the foundation?
Thanks. I've been thinking about what to do with that. Maybe build a porch, maybe just cover and landscape it. I'm not quite sure yet and I kinda love that.
i love it ❤️
l like your cabin!!
Thanks friend. I gotsta get back out there (this is at my mother in laws house). Maybe we'll do a renovation this spring or something.
What a tool 😊
Totally haha
It looks like you put the joist hangers on upside down
Yup I did haha. Live and learn.
Where’s the ridgecap?????
4 days and may I ask…how much was the total cost?
I think it was about 3k total.
Craftsman has on sale a combo kit with everything you need to build stuff with. Its 200 bucks
Sounds like a good deal and i've already got a Craftsman drill. Thanks for the tip!
Turn the metals 2 by 6 brackets around.
Upside down
I wish I could go back, but next time i'll know better haha.
you have a compound miter saw thats what people use to cut the mitered pieces Ummm wow. throw away the protractor and buy a speed square
I am a terrible builder...
Well good job the only big thing I see is how close to the ground you have it, theres a couple of issues fist and formost is the moisture . The closeness will trap moistness in, rotting your floor out within about 4-5 years secondly critters will make their homes under there which will attrack snakes if your lucky a king snake chanses are it wont be a king snake! . The way to have avoided this mistake was to set all four of the blocks on the ground insert your boards aply level find lowest block and sink abjacent blocks to level being your ground was close to level already. This would have left about six inches ground clearence which would have been enough for air to fllow with the slitestà of breeses keeping it drie and unattractive to critters and less attractive to snakes !
Wish you had been there to tell me all that when I was building it haha.
@@DontMindRyan you did good for your lack of experience Real good.
why didn't you just use the chop saw to cut the angles?
Whoa way late reply, but probably cuz I had no idea what I was doing haha. If I remember correct though the angles were too steep for the chop saw, then I chopped the wrong angle...ugh that was the hardest part. Structure still looks like the day I built it though ✌️
At least give us the material list so we can price it!! thanks
😂 this guy invented a new drinking game take a shot when you watch this video every time he does something wrong😂. Man I'm wasted
Next time we'll both get wasted and build an even better cabin haha.
The problem with an a frame is the square footage you lose. Basically you build an expensive permanent tent! Side note you always use 2X6 for exterior framing since 1970, they found 2x4 wasn't strong enough. 2x4's are usually used for interior framing.
wow😁
Glad you enjoyed. Thank you friend 🙂
That was a hack saw for metal , right? Your miter saw should have worked
9:40
Probably...honest I had no idea what I was doing, but the cabin is still standing and to be honest looks as good as the day I made er.
at min 4:07, your floor joist hangers are upside down
Ya I remember wondering what the heck those were gonna do when I was building it haha.
Nice. Ready to see the inside built out "imagination rules". Built in cot. table & chairs, shelves, ....
Me too! I'm taking a bit of a break and starting work on the garden and pond, but i'm taking the down time to dream up the inside. Already got my list of electrical supplies and i'm thinking of doing something with a terrarium!
Nos puedes proporcionar medidas por favor
No, construí esto hace mucho tiempo. Lo lamento.
You put your joister HANGERS upside down. Other than that, good job.
Ya I was wondering what the heck those things were supposed to do like that haha
Flamer
You misspelled framer, lol. Better fix that or someone might think you’re a real jerk 😂
Good video man. But. Less talky talky more worky worky
Haha thank you. I do have a bit of trouble keeping my thoughts from spilling out my mouth.
Great video bro. You’re weird and a little sketchy and it annoyed me because it reminded me of myself. Your content is great. I’m pretty sure we all have autism.
Sketchy and autistic. Thanks for having the balls to say that, but ya I've wondered myself...then I remember I don't care to label. Love you bro.
Oh my ! What a horrible cut you could have used another sheet of plywood for a make shift fence just measure from the center of your jig saw to the edge of the shoe and put the edge of the plywood on that measurement put a couple screws into the plywood and make your cut
Too much talking, mate.
Dude smelt nails
Screws 🤣 but I'd smell nails too.
