One thing I consider extremely important, if you live in northern states or in Canada, where they use salt on the roads during the winter months, is to clean your brake slider pins. Whenever I swap my Summer tires for my Winters, and visa versa, I take the pins and brake pads out and clean/lube the pins to keep them from corroding and getting seized in the callipers. If this happens they may have to be cut out.
This time of year I need to put on my All Weather tires here in the Pacific Northwest (Vancouver, BC), I install my old (2023) Ionic 5's 20" EV01+ wheels from Fastwheels the bolt pattern and offset are the same just the hub size requires an adapter (WHEEL CONNECT Hub Centric Rings, 67.1 to 64.1), they have my super great Michelin Cross Climate 2 235/R45-20's, the narrow profile to allow the tire to cut through the snow and also improve my efficiency during the cold. I also install my CYBERBEANS Shade for Tesla Model Y Glass Roof, with space blanket sandwiched between, to give better insulation during the cold weather to improve efficiency by reducing my heating load. Now I should be all set for my next mountain road adventure!!! Look out snow!
Good looking out again BTG! Although my mileage is low on my 2020 MY I’ve had my tires rotated 3 times. They initially charged $50 now it’s $100 😂. So I’ll be doing these rotations myself moving forward 🤙🏾
Model X has directional tires, so you can’t rotate because it has the staggered fitment. With the MX i’ve never noticed any uneven wear even though you can’t rotate.
NEVER use an impact to install the nuts or bolts. Always start them by hand. Then use the impact. The first time you try to remove a cross threaded nut or bolt you will know why.
I would use the impact driver to remove the lug nuts only. You risk breaking the lug nuts or wheel bolt. Always use a put the lug nuts back on by hand and use a good torque wrench/gauge to make sure they’re to spec.
I have the 20” wheels on my MY, took it to Costco for the rotation and the brake caliper covers on the fron were rubbing, so they said the wheels were staggered and they rotated side to side, and also scratched them a lot. I still had some rubbing on one side, so I installed a small spacer. But next time I’ll do it myself. Based on your video I think it’s front to back? Thanks for sharing
2:22 Great video. Quick question regarding tire rotation, why can you cross the tires like a normal car? In other words, the rear left with the right front.
Radial tires don’t like rotating in opposite directions so typically the rotation is from front to back. Old-fashioned polyester non-radials could go any direction.
Is the 3 ton jack good like the 2.5 ton low profile. Would you recommend the 3 ton from the same seller that you recommended the 2.5 ton. I have a 2022 LR model Y?
I always thought radial tires could not be rotated from right to left as shown for staggered setup. Am I just old school and not informed about modern tire tech?
I have a 2022 MYP. I am confused. Some tell me that the wheels cannot be rotated side to side because they are uni-directional. I have not touched my tires in 23k miles.
I have the Model Y Performance with staggered wheels, A one jack raise will not work for me, Have not tried yet. Would a jack stand allow me to do this? I have the low profile jack. Need to try and figure it out. Or might just go to Discount tire they have pucks. Thanks for the video.
@@samuelcollins9625 lol, maybe. But I have a k&n cabin air filter for my regular car and it works pretty well. No weird smell, I just know Tesla some pretty serious filtration for outside air coming in.
It looks like that Tesla super seat cleaner is only available on Amazon. Why wouldn't Tesla have it on their website? Maybe they do and I missed it. But are you sure that's a real Tesla product and not just 409 that somebody put Tesla's logo on?
It's not a Tesla product. I have a bottle and I can tell you it is very good. I've tried lots of different cleaners and the Tesla Super Seat Cleaner is by far the best at getting out even stubborn stains. Highly recommended. Follow the advice in this video and your seats will look near-new for a long time. (If someone knows how to get the stretch marks out from the heavily abused driver's side seat I'm all ears!).
No, no, no Don't depend on one jack to lift the whole side. Hydraulic jacks should not be use to keep the car lifted. The 10 cent seal can go and the car will go down with no wheels on them.
Two Tesla service techs told me to pass on my rotations. They said the perfect balance of the car weight keeps tires even wear. One said every 20k miles is good.
BTG laughed, probably thought what I initially did and thought you meant just drive the car straight only. but I know exactly what you mean, It bugs me so much when people turn the wheel rack to rack when parking when the car is not rolling even just a little bit. Rotations do more than even out just that wear, but still it's generally good practice

Watching this video as I am doing the regular 6,250K mile tire rotation in the garage. Nice.
Follower for years thanks for making great content with transparency.
thank you Sir . this is saved on my channel , your so always easy and direct to personal repairs and accessories.....
Glad to help
Thanks so much for this , going to get stuff to do my own rotations. Tesla charging 105 now it's too much
Agree. You can do yourself
If you have a discount tire near you, they also rotate tires for free

Mahalo
For winter climates that use salt, cleaning/lubricating the brake calipers is also recommended by Tesla.

I hear things all over the board about model x tires and wear, what tire size/wheel do you have ?
Same for y performance
@@sethssdthat’s mostly if you drive in other suspension heights than “Normal” because the cambers don't adjust, same thing on model S
Do a video on replacing the A/C desiccant bag. No content on it available
Very useful. I have been delaying doing the rotation myself. Hopefully this will motivate me to start doing at home. 👍👏
Terrific, straightforward video!
Great info, thanks Mr. Beard!!

Nice video. But I thought replacing the air filters was a killer. Maybe because i’m 72.
What were you spraying on the filter? Looked like a foam of some sort? You don't just swap out the filters?
Great advice for us.
Cheers

Great simple video!
2:22 Great video. Quick question regarding tire rotation, why can you cross the tires like a normal car? In other words, the rear left with the right front.
You can if you want
Radial tires don’t like rotating in opposite directions so typically the rotation is from front to back. Old-fashioned polyester non-radials could go any direction.
Should I wedge the wheels on the jack? Are rollaways possible?
Seat cleaner link is broken, got an updated one?
Have you ever done the brake lubricant service of the caliper pins on any of your teslas?
Is this necessary for teslas?
Can you comment on rotating tires without wheel alignment? Is there a DIY solution for wheel alignment?
Do you void warranty by doing them yourself
Does that magnetic shelf damage the dash at all? I have the white dash and am worried about it marking it up.
Why don’t you swap sides with the tires also? Seems like they would wear more evenly if each tire spent some time in each position.
He's got Martian Wheels. Cool.

You da man!
Appreciate you

I have a 23 MYLR, with heated wipers, does the wipers you put on have the heat functionality too?
Great video! :)
What about this? “We recommend cleaning and lubricating all brake calipers every 12 months or 12,500 mi for vehicles in cold weather regions.”
Bro from japan, have to make sure the wheel is still on the left
What kind of washer fluid do I use?
I have a 2022 MYP. I am confused. Some tell me that the wheels cannot be rotated side to side because they are uni-directional. I have not touched my tires in 23k miles.
What is your Martian Wheels spec? Thanks

After some more research I see I would need two jacks. Thanks.
Let's roll!!!

What about yearly maintenance on your model X
How do you feel about a K&N cabin air filter, and just washing/refreshing every year?
I wonder if that would be like washing your shoes 👞, once the funk is in them it won’t come out lol 😅
@@samuelcollins9625 lol, maybe. But I have a k&n cabin air filter for my regular car and it works pretty well. No weird smell, I just know Tesla some pretty serious filtration for outside air coming in.
That’s right I forgot about the good old biohazard mode
How about Drive Unit oil change ?
Not yet had anything like that come up
They are saying ther is no need to rotate tires on a model y performance . Is ther some truth to this
My wipers are still like new after 50k
Great 😅
Don't forget to loosen the lug nut before jacking up the car
If you’re putting new tires on your Tesla, do you need to balance & align them?
Duh
What about brake service?
BTG lives in FL. We don't get all that grime northerners get in winter so no brake service needed
Hi kindly share where to buy roof cover bro. Tq
Plastic sleeved sockets so you don’t scratch rims

I put a little bit of dishwashing liquid on a damp rag, then wipe the Tesla seats with that.

People STILL believe in the tire rotation thing?? 😂😂
Two Tesla service techs told me to pass on my rotations. They said the perfect balance of the car weight keeps tires even wear. One said every 20k miles is good.
Tire rotation per 5k miles is too often. Just don't steer when the car is not moving and you can rotate every 15k-20k miles
Lol
