    00:54 Start of standard handcuff key incompatibilities demo section
    06:49 Explanation of the TOOOL Ultimate Handcuff Key & specific usage instructions
    08:30 Start of TOOOL key demonstration.
    Scroll down in this description to a link and explanation on the actual dimensions needed to make the key.
    As someone who is into locksport (recreational lockpicking [of own locks]), I have a case full of lockpicks, padlocks and handcuffs. I have noticed over time that not all handcuff keys are equal and some brands work in more models while some don't work. It can be very confusing and frustrating.
    This video demonstrates how different brands of handcuffs' keys are not always universal. This can cause problems when one person needs to unlock the handcuffs of someone else who uses a different brand. This is more of a problem in America where different people like to use different brands. Also if someone was held hostage and an officer attempts to free them from handcuffs, if non-standard brands were used, there is less of a guarantee that their key would work.
    Step in, the TOOOL (The Open Organization Of Lockpickers) Ultimate Handcuff Key. It's dimensions are such, that it can operate a very wide array of brands and models of handcuffs from all around the world, including some high security models such as ASP 2 split pawl model and Yuil's 2 split pawl model. There is a bit of a trick to using it with handcuffs that use 3 pawl bars, which is covered and explained in this video.
    Sometimes emergency personnel need to free a hostage or captive who was handcuffed with nonstandard handcuffs, or are called to a house to free someone from, erm.. evening activities that went wrong because a key was lost or only the wrong key was accessible and thus useless. Plus situations, particularly abroad, where abductions of tourists have happened and someone might want to free them self. What ever the situation is, a TOOOL Ultimate Handcuff Key is the solution to having a single key that is the most compatible with the most number of handcuffs available on this planet.
    Here is an image of the official specification: i.imgur.com/OV...
    Note, the 0.3mm slit is the minimum width, it can be up to a 1mm gap or smaller. Plus the 5.5mm needs to be very very very slightly filed to be approx 5.48mm in order to successfully operate British police TCH handcuffs and HIATT handcuffs, due to their design where some metal can in many cases take up room in the keyway.
    If you can get either a standard Smith & Wesson, Alcyon or Yuil key, the chances are you can use tools to file and cut the key down to fit these dimensions. It requires some work and accurate measuring (and testing if possible) but once completed you have a very compatible key. Although this key is not best suited to be your go-to key if you have triple pawl handcuffs like UK police ones, because it requires a technique in order to catch all 3 pawl bars with the shortened key. This is an "In case of emergency, break glass" kind of key. A key to keep as a backup. However if you have single or double pawl handcuffs it would probably work just as well as your regular key. Only you would know, by testing it.
    Any way, if you found this interesting, please like and subscribe :)
    Also you may like to check RUclips for a talk that Deviant Ollam from TOOOL did on this key. You can search for TOOOL Ultimate Handcuff Key or TOOOL Perfect Handcuff Key.
    Enjoy.

    Have you tried starting from a TCH key? In the video the TCH seemed a good fit in all the keyways and would only need a slight shortening of the keyflag and a slot.

      @techwg  2 года назад +1

      It does work. S&W key is the best (plus looks nicer) but a TCH key will have almost the same inter-operability if you do all the modifications that you'd do to a S&W key.

      Also, please see my new video on the Kyung Chang issue. The creator of the TOOOL key commented on the video. It shows a non-tall-bit key such as TCH or ZAK Tool should in theory be as good as the TOOOL, if Kyung Chang were the only real issue that the TOOOL key was trying to protect against with the dimensions of it. I blew that out of the water.

    I have this problem of not engaging all 3 ratchets on some old Hiatt cuffs in my collection. Does anyone know where one can get the a key that that has a wider blade that can work properly?

    • @techwg
      @techwg  Месяц назад

      You just pull the key out slightly, I did demonstrate this on the video. But this key is a one size fits all kind of emergency key. Standard keys for a brand will always work better but if you want 1 key that has the highest chance of opening a cuff, you can't get better than this type of key.

    Does this key work with ASP triple pawl lock modules? (green, not the one that requires their special key)

    • @techwg
      @techwg  Месяц назад

      It does indeed. In the same way I demonstrated with the TCH which also has 3 pawls, you may need to pull the key slightly out and try 3 or 4 times but it absolutely does work. It is the most capable key I have ever seen.

      The only 2 keys I have found which work are Smith & Wesson and Alcyon. You might be able to use Kyung Chang but that would take way more time to file them down.

      Indeed, it works exceptionally well with many handcuffs from all over the world. Of course not all, there are some with very unique keyways but all the modern standard style, including some high security ones it works. There's no single key which can open more cuffs than that one. You just need a couple little files and a little junior hacksaw and specifically a Smith & Wesson key and some way to measure it as best as you can. The keys are great quality too, some people in the lock picking community wear them as jewellery: pbs.twimg.com/media/DoT74QiUcAAS4xq.jpg:large Although in her example it's a non-modified one just as it comes.

    Is a modified plastic key capable of such tasks, like a Sparrows key, etc.?

    • @techwg
      @techwg  5 лет назад +1

      Only if the dimensions are adequate. Many keys have a key flag which does not stick out far enough. Of course you could use a junior hacksaw to cut a little split in it and it would work with some keys that require a split, but it won't be as capable as a key customised from a Smith & Wesson or an Alcyon key. Also, plastic keys are not that strong or reusable. So cutting one may weaken it greatly even more than with normal use.

      @@techwg I guess it's good that I customized a S&W. The reason I ask about the plastic ones is due to their concealability. No metal detection, etc.. Thanks for the response.

      What do you mean? The Smith & Wesson is one of the most widely used American handcuffs that is used in the USA today. In fact the TOOOL key starts off as a Smith & Wesson key. I have tested these keys in a great many brands and it works very well. Also what do you mean by "3x as wide"? What is wider and compared to what?

      @@lylechipperson3407 I think you are talking about model M104 which uses a thinner smaller key. That is only used in a correctional environment because the keys are entirely different and normal keys, including the TOOOL key, will not work in them. I have most of the standard American handcuff models Smith & Wesson, Peerless, ASP, Chicago and they all operate with the TOOOL key, except the high security Smith & Wesson which use s smaller thinner key where the bit on the end has a hook shape to it. If you have info on a particular model I am not familiar with I would love to see, but I have quite an extensive collection of cuffs from around the world and have had more and sold when I was down on money. I would be surprised if a nation-wide change in the USA had been implemented. I would have heard about it.
