Really liked your use of the term lore. It really applies to Ren. He is a living musical story - every emotion, every gesture, every expression, every note paint an acoustic picture of the human experience. It is uniquely his story, and yet somehow also universally relatable. If you are travelling the Ren and Chinchilla path, try How to be Me. I think you will love it. And no need to change your editing style. What most of us RENegades love in a reactor is when they are their authentic selves. Would much prefer that you just be you expressing yourself in the way that you are most comfortable. That is what Ren does with his music and we are here for it.

Thanks so much for the comment, it means a lot to me! I really enjoyed this live version. They sound so good together. I think I might check out a song from his band for my next Ren reaction, but I want to circle back to another song with Chinchilla. I might check out the one you suggested here.

This version of the song always reminds that one of the (many) things that makes Ren so great is his ability to know exactly when to be complex, keep it simple, or even use silence to get his message across. He isn’t flexing his guitar skills in this, just playing exactly what is needed with that beautiful guitar tone. And my favourite line in this is so simple, totally devoid of all the clever metaphors that he is so good at using, but it hits soooo hard: “I’m scared of being okay cause all things change”. I think anyone who has been through any struggles can relate to that feeling of not trusting that anything good will last. You can’t just enjoy it because you’re busy worrying about how long it will last and the feeling that will come when it’s gone. And then good days just make the darkness feel so much worse because you remember the light that’s gone… Ren is so special. He keeps being so relatable that it reminds us that we’re not alone. And we will always make room for more RENegades down the Ren rabbit hole cause we all need his light in the darkness 🐰🕳️
If you want more emotional singing from Ren, please check out one of my personal favourites: Crutch feat. Bibi. It’s an older song from before he was finally correctly diagnosed with Lyme disease and was written after a breakdown following multiple emergency trips to the hospital. It is heart wrenching and beautiful. And very different from everything else in his catalogue.

Thanks for the comment! Yea, I really liked this version. It shows his ability to sound amazing with nothing but a guitar and another person, in a hallway. His lyrics connect so deep being as I have lived some of them myself. Its nice to know there is not only an artist out there that creates beautiful music people can relate to, but that there is a whole community behind the artist that make each other not feel alone in their struggles. I cant wait to react to more of his music! I might check out his band next.

Thank you for this reaction, I’ve missed you over here NOT on Twitch. Brilliant, as usual - I knew you’d appreciate the acoustics and their harmonies (the a capella section gives me chills every.single.TIME.) The more I watch this the more respect I have for their vocal control - Ren CAN belt out with all the power, but he doesn’t HAVE to, even when he backs off so the word is like a whisper it is still achingly clear and beautiful. His latest, Troubles, hit me super hard (because I, too, struggle with chronic pain/illness) but if you’re going react to it, it would help if you watched the lead-up videos (on his second channel, renmakesstuff) because he literally tells us the whole story of his illness & his fight. [also as an aside I know it might seem weird to put links to the channels of the people you’re reacting to in the description, but it might help people start their own deep dives into the music. And since you mentioned your Hi Ren reaction, you could also link to THAT video so they don’t have to go searching. Just a thought.]

Definitely check out Ren's latest track "troubles". To expose to Ren's lighter side, I would check out "Losing it" and/or "what you want". Chinchilla just dropped a fire live version of her latest track "5:1" as well. Great reaction man

Ahhhhhhh, life got busy (& probably the algorithm wasn't throwing your videos in front of my face I guess) & I lost track of your channel until now!!! Really enjoyed your reaction to the studio version of this one - when this reaction floated cross my home screen, I ewnt to your channel to see if I'd missed any other Ren reactions first cuz I like watching a reactor's journey chronologically.
I'm one of the many who are completely under the spell of the live version so it was cool to hear your take on the studio (& now, the studio vs the live). So few reactions are out there for the studio version I don't think I've ever heard it mentioned but in the studio version there are lyrics in the chorus that Ren delivers in a kind-of... idk how to describe it, kind-of flat-toned but sneering voice? but to me, they're not lyrics that make sense to sing in that tone, and it jolts me right out of my immersion in the song for that moment.
(that's flat-toned as in the quality/timbre of his voice, not flat as in he's singing out of tune)
Of course, the trade-off is you get the incredible layers of choral harmony.
Anyway, glad you did the 2 versions one after the other like this!
Other options for that idea, if you enjoyed doing it this way:
    - Genesis (1-shot music video, and then the live acoustic version)
    - Animal Flow (1-shot music video, and then the live acoustic version)
    - Murderer (clever "1-take fake" music video, and then the live acoustic versio)
Genesis is one of his rap songs that real rap fans seem to go wild for. Autobiographical. Acoustic version is impressive, and very identifiable as "acoustic version of the song"
Animal Flow is a flex track rap song with some social commentary thrown in, music video's fun; acoustic version is astounding (you'll understand the minute the music video version gets into the song, just how different an "acoustic" version must be... and then he goes and breaks your brain with the acoustic version anyway)
Murderer... I'm still not sure how to classify it. Flex track (rap) for an alternate universe version of Ren? It's unadulterated fun, however it's best described, and the hook is a helluva brainworm. Video's lots of fun too. I can never decide whether I prefer the studio version or the acoustic version - my favourite version's whichever one I'm listening to in the moment, lol!
Anyway, even with Genesis having some heavier lyrics, these 3 are easy to listen to double versions of (like, if you're having a bad day, or don't feel like being thrown into the sads), if you enjoyed doing Chalk Outlines this way.
How to Be Me, the other song Ren & Chinchilla did at the same time as Chalk Outlines, also has a lyric video & live video... the live is a more standard "performing the song" video than Chalk Outlines tho these 2 are incapable of doing anything at a "standard" level rofl...
Glad you're doing somewhat better these days. Anxiety's a bitch, to put it mildly.

Thanks so much for the comment and suggestions! I actually recorded this last week, but youtube messed up the audio in the song, it sounded crackly, so I had learn how to adjust audio for videos so I could re upload it. I didnt wanna re record it because that would not have been a genuine reaction. I really liked this verison tho. They sound so good in that hallway together between the low tones and when they get loud. I cant wait to continue down the Ren rabbit hole and find more gems like this!

Also, The tale of Jenny and Screech stuff is brilliant, you will want to react to the one with the song Violets tale added on. AMAZING. I also love Money Game part 3, but all his Monday Game songs are great and you should probably watch them in order.

I tend to prefer live versions, especially with an artist as talented as Ren. The problem with most artists today, is that they tend to be terrible live, unless they have heavreal-time production going on, which pretty much defeats the whole point of live performance. Both Ren and Chinchilla can do it live, with ease AND add something new to the studio version, in a way which had almost seemed like a lost art. Even if done perfectly, I don't want a carbon copy of the studio version. What would be the point in that? :) Ren, in particular, thrives in a live setting. He learnt his craft busking on the streets, after all! :)

Thanks for the comment! I agree 1000% on wanting someone to sound as good live as they do in the studio versions of their songs. My favorite band is Tool, and their lead singer sounds absolutely amazing live. That means a lot to me because with all the technology out now days, I feel like many artists "fake it". Ren sounds amazing live. This song sounded so good with the acoustics! I cant wait to check out more of his stuff!
