    I'm a wedding photographer in your area and highly suggest you do two things. 1- pick up insurance. Liability insurance is really inexpensive. 2- contract always!! And make them initial everything. 3-You also make them sign and initial again upon drop off. Example: we, the client, assume all responsibility for this cake and have been advised of how to store our cake to avoid melting or tipping.
    Before your driver leaves, they sign this receipt. They get a copy, you get a copy.
    Do not assume people are nice. They're not. They usually over spend and then try to find ways to make up their losses somehow.
    And in future all correspondence is professional and in email. I promise that when you conduct yourself as a branded established professional business people will seldom try to take advantage and if they do, realize you are fully protected with contracts and emails.
    Wish you luck!

      Well said, very professionals People do over spend and then try to find something to get their loses on anything and unfortunately the cake was it. Shame on those people.

      I couldn’t have worded this better...professionalism is so important...NO texting to order or to resolve issues, ever! Trust me, I’m on your side, but it’s super important to conduct your business in a business manner. My biggest pet peeve is tardiness, whether it’s on behalf of the customer or my behalf. It’s important to deliver by the promised time, as a customer, and I say this with all respect, I don’t care if you have 50 orders, I stated what time I wanted the cake. It doesn’t matter whether the cake is served 5 hours later, if you agreed for the cake to be delivered by a certain time, then it’s important you to meet the deadline, unless it’s interrupted by an unforeseen circumstance.
      When I used to make cakes for profit, it was so important to me to be timely. If the customer requested the cake at a certain time, it was done. If I requested the cake to be picked up by a certain time then you better show up! There are tons of templates for cake contracts. Or hire someone professionally to write one up to your needs. Most importantly, respond via email in a professional manner, google if you can’t find the correct words to express yourself, I struggle from time to time finding the right words to express, I google and find tons of examples that relate to my circumstance and I learn how to conduct a proper conversation with the correct verbiage. For example: say dowels instead of saying sticks. Trust me, I’m grew up so ghetto, in the worst part of town, and I’m amazed how I can respond properly by googling! Good luck guys! Sorry to sound harsh, but I say this for your own good. Blessings ❤️

    Please, please invest on a website and do not allow people to message you through DMs. On the website specify the terms and conditions of an order because some people are so scummy! Some people, no matter how rich will always try to abuse and undermine small businesses and it’s so sad.

    • @yvettezuniga2129
      @yvettezuniga2129 3 года назад +4

      I agree! I also suggest that they NO LONGER make videos where they are drinking. That can be used against them if a customer should ever try to acuse them of being impaired and say that is why the cakes are not being made professionally. They should retain a lawer who can properly guide them of all disclaimers, liabilities, etc...

    I don’t understand why some people won’t take responsibility for what happens to the cake after they pick it up. I started my business legitimately last year , I sent her a picture of the cake before she came to pick it up she loved it she responded back saying how she liked it then she picks it up I place it inside her car on the ground of the passengers seat she was like “omg I love it thank you “ she was very nice well mind you she hadn’t zelled me but I was so busy that weekend that it slipped my mind ( I do everything myself) well I get a text message 30 minutes later and then I get like four right after with like ten question marks over and over basically saying she is not paying for the cake she doesn’t like how it came out that she should’ve never came to me that one star on ten cake was uneven then I told her I would fix what she didn’t like if she brought it back she then went on to tell me I should’ve done it right the first time she knows it’s going to taste like s**** bc it looks like it I was respectful and just told her she could keep it for free because I was just starting out I didn’t want to put a bad name for myself. Later on that day someone who I followed posted a picture of her with the cake and they tagged me & said that everyone loved the cake 😂🤦‍♀️ moral of the story I learned to not give someone the cake before they pay & to set strict rules. Also that not every order is worth doing.

    • @FRT2
      @FRT2 3 года назад +4

      Never give your cake before getting payment, because then it could turn into a tug of war. It can be hard as a new person in sales, but once they have the cake in their hands you have no power since they can run off without payment and never give you the payment.

  • @abbyarenas7617

    If you don't already do it, start doing a sales contract. Make sure there is a clause on it that states that you will assume no responsibility after cake is delivered. Have customers also sign off on condition of cake upon delivery. It'll save you so much headache. Don't let one person make or break your career. Love yall!

      I've order 2 cakes from you and left them out for the entire party amd NOTHING happened and they taste so good!! I'm sorry this is happening to you. I'm looking into contracts for my backdrops now too! So I got a client because I did a set up for her neighbor I gave her qoute listed what was included. I get to the place to set up first thing she asked was if I brought the table covers too mind you this was never even mentioned so I told her no I just do backdrops and setups and custom decor and table covers weren't mentioned & apologized. I did my thing took a picture wrote down everything I'd be picking up it was a paste garland with floral decor. I told the husband please message when the party is over I'll pick up tonight or I could go in the AM I feel bad rushing people I want them to have nice pictures anyway I told him if I go in the morning to put my things somewhere safe and left to my next set up. Ok so I got message from the neighbor saying she brought my stuff in because they left it all out 🙄 so I thanked her and let her know I'd be there the next day I show up and all I got back was my backdrop and stand. The lady kept the birthday banner I made kept ALL my florals & my weight bags for my stands were "stolen" and they ruined the backdrop with cake it has blue blotches all over. I messaged her and let her know everything was rental the price wasn't for like a sale thing I let her know I'd be going this Saturday to her neighbors for a set up and would be picking up my stuff she freaking laughed!!! I was still nice and sent her the list and she ignored me then the neighbor messaged me and said she said they must've stolen your stuff so I said that's fine but I do expect the money to replace my things because they were expensive especially the flowers! All of a sudden she said she found the florals and has weightbags that look like mine that I can keep but said nothing about the backdrop that was ruined so to be continued on Saturday! I have so much anxiety thinking about doing a set up and having to deal with all this confrontation while doing the set up

    Ooooo no way. I feel you guys! I’m a baker too and luckily I haven’t had something like this happen but I did have someone pick up a cake and we told her you know, DRIVE SLOW, and we saw her speed away from the house. The two layer cake tipped over in her trunk. Luckily she knew it was her fault so she wasn’t mean or anything but she told me it tipped over. I told her to come back and that I would fix it but she said she just pushed it back together and it worked lol. Later that day she said it tasted really good and she ordered again later on.
    Another time someone ordered a cake with fondant details but it was July and 100 degrees and they left it outside ALL DAY. They mentioned it on their FB page but they were like “it’s our fault we left it out all day” because people were all up in the comments talking shit. You can’t leave a cake in 100 degree weather for 8 hours! Come on dude?! Hell nah.
    This whole situation is messed up. What I would do from now on is tell them what and where the support is moving by forward. That’s what I started doing. Tell them if it has sticks or straws or whatever. Don’t let this get to you guys! Keep making cakes and keep making money moves!! #cakelife

    Uhh.. guys I'm so sorry you went through all that. As soon as you said they were saying the cake fell or it started getting a bulge and all that stuff I said you're going to have to write up a contract when you have a cake order with these people. It's the only way. Don't let this ever keep you from not feeling the way you felt before about people just remember this is a business and yes you can go that extra mile at times, but you always have to protect yourself because of things like that. Believe me I understand because I'm the same way you guys are I would feel the same exact way upset that they can enjoy their cake want to get there on time make sure they're happy I'm the same way that's just the way I was brought up. Half these people don't understand I mean look how much filling and icing you guys put in your cakes I have never seen anybody make a cake even myself and use all that icing and filling to make it sturdy and even delicious. You guys are doing the right thing you've been doing it all along and don't let this discourage you. It's the point of the matter is that they left the cake out in this hot hot climate without refrigerating it what do they expect after of all those hours. And technically if you using buttercream and it has the high ratio shortening in it that it's not supposed to quickly at that. Truth be told they don't want to take responsibility they want to point the finger at other people. I'm glad you guys went away for the weekend because you needed it. I have so many stories about customer service that I've dealt with out of the cake world that you would be like wait what LOL. But you guys keep doing what you're doing you're doing great! ❤️🙂

    Make sure your contracts has all the terms, When payment is due, Pick up/Drop off , cancellations, refunds, liability,etc.. Also you can add the care instruction depending on the type of care, for example I know bakers who let you know this type of buttercream is good for 2 days out in the counter and this time on the fridge. Also they add how to store it in the fridge if you have leftover. Also Tres Leches and Cream Cheese , they make sure that they know no more than a handful of hours at room temperature.

    I’ve ordered cakes from lots of small businesses. I’ve had one bad experience and the lady didn’t add enough rods and the cake literally tipped when the driver was placing it on the table. She provided me with a full refund without me even asking but I would never ask for a refund if I made a mistake.It’s absolute common sense to place the cake in the fridge for a two tiered cake! I don’t even bake but I know it gets hot and could just tip over! La gente es bien transa. Im glad you guys are taking precautions and taking care of your business! Don’t stop making cakes and taking new clients! Don’t allow a bad customer to stop you from achieving your goals! Have people sign a waiver stating once the cake is dropped off they are 100% responsible. Provide them with instructions on how to handle the cake and that they are satisfied with how it looks. Just take legal precautions because there are shitty people out there! Don’t allow them to stop your bag 💰

    You guys pop up in my recommendation . Now new subscriber. I order cake from these lady before I walk out from her house she shows me the cake. So if something happens to after that it’s my fault. I never but it the fridge so if it’s melted it’s my fault. I never go complain to her because she gave it to me perfectly. And she has make me 3 floor cake and the cake was outside in a very hot day . My comadre didn’t cut it after 6 hours . I told her if the cake falls it’s your fault because you guys left it out . People needs to be responsible . Once it walks away from hands it’s that other person responsibility not your . So you guys shouldn’t be giving them a free cake or money back. You guys look very nice and that’s why people take advantage of you guys .

I’m sorry that 😞 you have to deal with people like this. So happy that you will be using contracts when people order cakes to protect y’all and your business. Because making cakes is not easy especially when you put your all into it because you love what you. I understand honestly 😩 Wish me luck on my new journey.

So good idea we should post a highlights on stories at Instagram, this kind of “new rules”, like we are not responsible for the cake after pick up or delivery.. and the cakes need to be refrigerated all the time, especially this hot summer weather that is approaching! But thanks for share with us guys, this is a helpful info for all small businesses bakers around !!! 💕💕

    I went through the same experience this Mother’s Day weekend with a customer. She requested a full refund because her arrangement said a different wording then what she expected. Like instead of “momma” it said “mom” I had to give her a full refund because I didn’t want to deal with her. You are right about getting bad vibes from people and honestly this is a lessened learned to not have to jeopardize our mental health.

I love watching your videos so please keep inspiring us 🙏🏻

    Maybe make a red sticker and put it on the cake box where it’s visible “Once the cake leaves our home, we are no longer responsible on how it’s carried out or placed in car or transported” I just started my baking business a year ago and boy has it been one heck of year. I feel you though on quitting cakes and just focus on RUclips. I get the feeling your talking about I don’t count that money until the next day because people will try anything and everything! People expect you to answer them fast but take their sweet time to get back to you. In business don’t make friend’s business is business. I wouldn’t put that in the contract “the cake will last 3 hours out before....” trust me la gente will twist that too! Plain and simple make a contract and let that be bold once it’s delivered or picked up.

    My story- I had a very bad customer experience with my first 3 tier cake ! basically cake was tilting and frosting was cracking when arrived! and girl was having her husband call me to tell me that it wss fault i needed to fix it , i was busy and couldnt but i explained that the father in law grabbed the cake like nothing and brought kids as support for cake and literally drove away like nothing very bad and i cried a river bcus she started posting on sc about her wedding how everything was good except the cake and bashing my cake and the flavor :( long story in short words)

    Sorry you had to experience this type of contact but there are many people in this world that you cannot predict just use it as a learning tool for your business I haven't finished watching this video yet but you are just talking about the problems go forward and make the contract and receipt just like if they were going to a public Bakery on premises just abide by your rules and you won't feel so bad. Both of you are good people but when it comes to business you need to go another Direction and just be business-minded and professional. I've been watching you guys for about a year now and I think your husband does a fantastic job I myself do cakes but mainly for the family or word-of-mouth not anything more it's just a fun thing and a passion for myself may you have the best of luck in the future and may God bless you and your family

    Hi guys, I’ve been in a long time subscriber of your channel and I love the cakes that you make. I also bake so I know how much effort and love you put into each and every one of your cakes as I do. I think you guys are way too nice to even give part refund to the customer. Once they take possession of it is their responsibility how they Store it and or display it. Cakes are very delicate, they are not made out of plastic to be perfect for several hours under hot or open outdoor conditions. Do not give in, do not fall prey to giving them the money back you worked hard for that money. And above all do not feel bad, feel proud of your beautiful creation. You gave them a beautiful cake and if they don’t know how to treat or care for it they weren’t worthy of that cake. But never never never give any money back. You guys have my full support as many others I’m sure Who bake as well. I love you guys, keep doing what you do best!
    God bless you and your family.
    Con mucho Amor

    Hi guys. This situation sucks! I think writing a contract is important to protect you and your business. I think you should add tips on how to take care of the cake after it’s delivered, not gonna lie, you guys made a video or a post not sure explaining that cakes have to be refrigerated and even tho it seems common sense to you it was new for me because every time I go to parties people have cakes out for hours so I assumed it was fine 😂 once I bought a cake from you and I put it in the fridge and it was great but seriously some people like me need cake enlightenment 😂🙏🏻 good luck with your business.

    I feel your frustration because some people try to tell me they want a fondant cake for half the price and I'm like no sorry I can't but there's different options. Some people say oh well I'll go somewhere else and funny thing is they always come back to me but one thing I do is no delivery unless they want to pay delivery. I also make it clear once I turn in a cake to them I am no longer responsible for it since it's in their possession. I'm glad you guys are sharing this with us because it helps to get us prepared ahead of time. BTW yal are my favorite baking channel I have followed all of chavas tips and I have progressed soooo much please keep posting I enjoy you guys so much.
