  • I decided to try out a couple new ideas with the modwave today to figure out if I could make a patch do some different things than what's become usual for me. A couple special tricks with the A/B blend parameter later, and I'd say I succeeded.

Mit dieser Session bzw. mit diesem Sound hab ich's geschafft, mir selber ein ganz neues Klangterritorium auf diesem Synthesizer zugänglich zu machen. Ich freu mich riesig drauf, weiter herumzuexperimentieren 😃

Phasers through Kaoss is one of my mainstays, but there are a couple other new tricks I used this time that I'll likely fall back on from time to time in the future

Great work! You have the Wavestate and Opsix as well. Your thoughts on the differences between the 3. Is it possible to create the same sounds on all three? Thank you.

Thank you very much again! 😃
These are great questions by the way, and I hope you're ready for a long response. I also hope that it will prove helpful to you.
It is definitely not possible to create the same sounds on all 3 of these synthesizers. That said, the wavestate does have FM and wavetable-ish samples built in to its library, but you won't be able to sculpt those sounds in the same way as you would on the opsix or the modwave, respectively.
If you want to do FM-based sound design, then the opsix is the synth to get. The opsix also has different modes that you can use for the operators and modulators. For example, you could have a modulator affect the operator like a filter instead of adding harmonics in the traditional FM-y way.
If you want to do work with wavetables plus have one of the coolest set of sequencers I've worked with, then the modwave is the way to go. The sequencers can be rather opaque to work with unless you have experience with the wavestate, though.
The wavestate is great for creating ever-evolving, very cinematic soundscapes, but you'll be doing less work building a sound from the ground up on it and more work picking samples that function well as a whole and stringing them together in wave sequences. It's challenging work, but I find the wavestate to be the most rewarding, honestly.
As for their modulation architectures, the wavestate and modwave are pretty much identical to each other and I can employ some of my modulation tricks (particularly regarding randomly-triggered envelopes) on both synthesizers and produce an identical effect.
The opsix has a 12-slot modulation matrix, but the routing options are more flexible, I find. For example, I could route the rate of a delay through one of the LFO's on the opsix to create randomized noises as the delay slides through slower and faster rates, but I can't do that on the wavestate or modwave (much to my dismay).
As far as FX go, the wavestate and modwave are generally equal in terms of what they have - the wavestate tends to have a few more algorithms in each set of FX than the modwave does - and the opsix is a bit more limited in that regard. That said, the opsix's FX are absolutely gorgeous and do wonders for any sound you'd create on that synthesizer.
That is a very general overview, I know, but if I went into the super-nitty-gritty of each of these synthesizers, this comment would be ridiculously long.

@@dani_raudvik out of curiosity why are you paying a mastering engineer (a lot of money presumably) to do something you could just as easily do yourself?

    • @dani_raudvik
      @dani_raudvik  2 дня назад

      @@ennayanne definitely a fair question
      A. Most importantly, I need a fresh set of ears on my material to possibly hear things I’m not (and that definitely happened in several places).
      B. The guy I go through is ultra-reasonable and I had the master tracks back in about 24 hours.
Maybe I can get to the point where I can do it myself at some time in the future, but for now, I have to recognize my own limitations, and this is one of them for the time being.
Again, very fair question and thanks for stopping by to ask

@@dani_raudvik No problem, btw I really enjoy your channel! Making me really want a wavestate lol. I only ask because I've found most mastering engineers to be a waste of time and usually I could achieve a decent enough result myself with the ozone mastering suite in a couple of minutes. I think mastering engineers want people to think what they do is magic when really it's quite mundane and not all that difficult

@@ennayanne The guy I sent my work to came highly-recommended, and he was both quick as well as wickedly affordable.
As for the wavestate, I can't recommend one enough. It's a complex instrument and it took me a fair amount of time to get a handle on it, but the possibilities are endless.
And I’m happy to hear that you enjoy what I‘ve been putting out on this channel 🙂
