For Mr. Lance Bass, Congratulations on this “The Boy Band Con” I had absolutely no idea this had happened. The accounts of Lou Pearlman’s life and the actions he took in cheating so many people out of money that was never his, truly is heartbreaking. I hope that you and every other individual that he stole from, can heal emotionally and continue to move forward with each of your lives. I wish all of you the best going forward.
The boy band con was a great doc. To have been apart of the Nsync vs Backstreet craze and to see how he pitted them against each other on purpose so they wouldnt talk was shocking. Still team NSYNC tho
What a fun interview. Sway and Co are underrated for sure. They've got great chemistry and always conduct the most interesting interviews. I'm happy that Lance has found success after NSYNC.
It wasn't even about reading contracts. Say a guy in the group did everything right and had a good lawyer. Pearlman & Co would have likely booted that person out of the group. It's a catch 22 going back decades. Either management or the person's own family end of screwing them over in the beginning. The survivors come out on top. Look at En Vogue & TLC. Both groups ended up with nothing after having megahit albums! On the other hand the Backstreet Boys (who've sold over 130 million albums) sued Pearlman & Co , got a better contract from Jive records (at one time worth 60 million), hung together during the lean times and they're back on the charts while they never stopped putting out music , now in their 25th yr.. At this moment they're starting a world tour & they set a record for their Vegas residency being sold out which then made them keep adding shows and stretch their stay into 2 yrs (2017-19). Plus they had a #1 song on the Country chart with Florida Ga Line & have a #1 song out now!
Still happens today. These record companys prey on young hungery artist. Ask any if the winners of American idol or the voice. They sign crazy long 7-8-9-10 record deals and are so blinded by the thought of stardom that of course they sign. Did anybody else catch vibes that Sway was lightweight trying to clown Lance??? As if young black men are too smart to fall prey to a guy like Lou Pearlman. There are plenty of young black men/women who've been taken advantage of in this industry. Just look at Lil' Wayne/Baby, everybody who's ever been on Bad Boy & so many others. C'mon Sway- you know better than this.

They we're not allowed. I remember when AJ got the contract. His mom wanted to read the contract first but they are told its now or never so they signed the contract right there and then
Also, consider that people were way more prone to this sort of thing in the 90's, unless they were already wealthy. Part of what made Lou's con so effective was that every group that he made started from effectively nothing. None of them previously had a lot of experience in show business, and he made sure of it. He knew they wouldn't challenge the contract initially, and showered them with so much material affection and seemingly "free" lessons in everything that by the time they'd realize the contract sucked, they'd still resist trying to renegotiate, since he represented their entire careers.

And sway's universe seems to be right where I'm at. I just wish most interviews were longer. I think everything I've watched is about 20 minutes. I'd like at least 45 minutes with most people.
I never understood that. New edition is more akin to the Isley Brothers than a boy band. Unless the Isley Brothers are a boy band. Then the Jackson 5 are a boy band too. The definition seems to always change. That being said I love all the groups listed. I think it's to clearly establish the R&B elements/lineage of boy bands despite R&B being prominently black and Boy Bands white.. I honestly just think music always evolves but keeps some of the same flavor. Most boy bands are from the South... Guess we're there is alot of black people... The south. Guess we're alot of R&B acts and the genres that would evolve into R&B started the south. Seems natural to me. I would love to hear your thoughts.

@@altanmandragoran4235 come on flex... Urban has wildly been used as code word for black. Also black artists have been 16 and duped as well. This is a matter where everyone of Evey color of every background has to work together.
Sway flip flops a bit in this interview... seems to lambaste Lance (and the parents) for their inexperience... was kinda uncomfortable to watch
Lou was so evil to O-Town ima huge fan of backstreet boys . An N SYNC LOVE THEM AS WELL💖💖💖💖💖.....
This is actually good that he’s telling this story because soooo many upcoming artist could fall in the same trap out just reaching for fame .....this is a good example
Seriously, Sway's Universe gives good interview. The diversity of the interests in this group just appeal to every part of me from the nerd to the general inquisitor. Like, I don't give a crap about Lance Bass. But I remember n'sync. My little sisters were crazy into them so I know more than a middle age man should. And sway's universe seems to be right where I'm at. I just wish most interviews were longer. I think everything I've watched is about 20 minutes. I'd like at least 45 minutes with most people.
You know you’re Canadian when you notice that DB is wearing a Mighty Ducks t-shirt!
GREAT INTERVIEW GUYS!! 😊😯🤯👍👍👍👍
THANK YOU Sway for mentioning "New Edition " The first Boy Band..!! They always still our shit....!!!!??
When you have been an n sync fan since the first album . And hear them cuss for the first time . Big swear words .right through you . They said pissed off but that was no big deal 😂
I wanna see the movie so badly ..
a movie? when is that coming out? is that why there's so much promotion.?Lance is All Over youtube,. I don't even search or Google,.his interviews are always randomly popping up.
@@jenmb2679 it's on youtube premium, called "the boyband con" Lance produce the documentary movie with his friend .. if u have access to premium, please watch it, I think it's interesting to find out about his teen age facing case from his own management ..
@@nendensy oh yea, soumds familiar. Thank you!
@@jenmb2679 You're welcome 😉

" WHO'S YOUR PARENTS DAMMIT? "
Bass : Don't kill me. He's got the money, i just do the Laundry, sir.
Gained respect for Lance after the documentary. If anyone out there is interested check it out on RUclips premium.
5 Christian families assumed that everyone was honest like them, then they met a Pearlman.
Honest Christians? Never met one and i grew up in church and was a Christian till i wised up. These predators take advantage of lots of familys. Money makes the smartest of folks weak
OG Sephiroth!
mike muse: i wanna be the taste tester
lance bass: with pleasure ( ͡◉ ͜ʖ ͡◉)
Lance seems like such a cool guy, would love to talk to him someday.
“Who were your people?”
Lou and Lou’s people 😂😂
Pedophilia is fucking rife in the entertainment industry. Everytime I see a young artist, I wonder what they’ve seen or heard or worse, experienced
Great piece!
omg, he's doing a damn good job of promoting himself. he is EVERYWHERE, I'm not even searching or googling, but his videos and interviews just keep popping up on yt.
BTW,.. getting ripped off, isn't right. a lot of these celebrities have less money than you think, but they still get away with not paying bills and such. that's why they always come out of "retirement" so to speak.
rich people get a lot of free stuff and are able to keep getting money from creditors and such(which is bull crap).because theyre celebrities
he only needs to be on the breakfast club next.
@@sainttrunks1982 yass!
Lou pearl man invented the 360 deal , no cap
The music industry is so damn dirty. Damn!
Excellent doc!
Great interview.
I will definitely check out the documentary
Just saw the documentary on RUclips premium. Shocking how artists get played like slaves. Sad.. greed.
This is why I don’t understand why people don’t and didn’t believe Raz B. It sounds like Chris stokes practiced classic predator behavior. Why isn’t he in jail?
sharkkeeper01 because all of the other members of B2k didnt back him up with what happened because they didnt want anyone to know because it was shameful and embarrassing. If they would have backed him up Stokes and Huston would both be in prison.
HEATHER B!!!!!!!!
iamkarenh
Yes!! Loved me some Heather B since 'The Real World'..She keeps growing and winning and it won't stop..God bless her!!
Lance is cool. I hope to see this without premium one day.

13:50 Great advice for new artists.
Quite insensitive interview. All the laughing and jostling us uncomfortable to watch.
I agree totally. People who act like they came out the womb knowing everything about life annoy me.
imagine if lou just renegotiated w/bsb and nsync his whole thing goes differently...
The interviewer is so disrespectful. Lance isgreat.
I'm guessing you didn't know this, but they've known each other for years. Sway used to host TRL, where *NSYNC frequently made appearances and promoted singles.
@@OhtheSuffering I remember Sway on MTV. I love NSYNC.
@@OhtheSuffering still disrespectful.
That is why artists need to look at Gala Music.
I want to hear the stories he has to have with his times he spent with Britney Spears!
BSB 😍
In conclusion: he should've listen to Ludacris XD
Sway trying to be slick with his sneak dissing lol meanwhile he is dancing for Eminem like a good boy lol

Man its heartbreaking hearing these stories of groups getting screwed over. De La Soul, N'sync, the list goes on...
SWAY'S UNIVERSE Notification Gang! Its' AirMiah & I come before y'all humble to let you know *DAX* and I dropped a banger today called *"TRIGGER"* . Would love to get your take on both our verses! 🙏🙏🙌
Shit was trash.
Really, Sway... Recoupable is the first term you learn in the hood, SWAY? ... Where Introduction to Hood 101? Come on...
Thank you he lieing he throwing shade for no reasons
Damn Lance is fine af
Bro was bout to say the bad boy con
I can't believe they don't own their music.
Kris Jenner would have never.... cant believe these parents allowed this to happen. Lance was 16 when he signed! His mom is a nice lady but she is to blame. periodtt
They should’ve taken some advise from the girls in TLC
Even NWA got screwed with Jerry Heller.
Not really only certain members made money. Like Eazy and Dre. The rest signed bad contracts not knowing better.
@@JonnyAugz Dre didn't get his fair share either
Need to be independent like Master P
Yes HEATHER
What happened to the music rights and money after pearlman died?
That Lance Bass jacket tho. 🙌
Sway damn near collapsed. 15:15
Lets not forgot there woz alot of people n lous family woz ripped off
Never heard of anything like this happening to New Edition or New Kids On The Block under Maurice Starr.
Ray Medrano
If you haven't watched the New Edition story from last year, then you need to check it out!! It will enlighten you about everything that is the music industry.
ROFLMAO new edition was broke as hell too. Those boys only got mopeds for their first album and 500 .
Aaron carter also stuck up for Michael Jackson and then retracted
Im still mad at the parents too...smh no! We learned this from TLC!
Damn I should've been there manager y'all fans need one more album go get Babyface,Neyo,The Dream to write some songs timbaland or T Riley to produce
