I am still an extremely green newbie when it comes to pottery, and your videos are so easy to understand. You have a gift for explaining things, making pottery so much more approachable!
Thank you so much! Welcome to the wonderful world of crafting pottery. Yes, you are right, at first pottery can seem complained. I'm happy I can help you on your journey. Here is a video for you if you haven't seen it. Here is the link ruclips.net/video/7TcbmARt-TI/видео.html 😊

Thanks Marie. Your channel has been a big help for me in my nascent progress as a potter. I am very strongly considering getting one or two of these glazes for myself. Best wishes from Aotearoa New Zealand
Welcome to the wonderful world of crafting pottery! That is great to hear. Glad to help you on your fun journey. I'm looking forward to the next video when I layer these glazes with other glazes. That may help you decide which ones are best for you.
As always, great video. I will have to experiment with the River Birch. You made a great statement regarding pouring vs. brushing glazes - I've always been hesitant to pour since I try to make my glazes last longer and not waste as much, but your statement about the time you save pouring really resonated with me. I will have to try this. Thank you!
This is such a wonderful video. We cannot place a value on it because of the tremendous knowledge we have taken in. Thank you so much, the last two videos have been wonderful.
Hi Marie, You posted a video, fairly recently, I think, where you had glazed a small lidded pot with a side handle that you called a veggie steamer for the microwave. The lid had a chimney. Could you please tell which video that was in? I can't find it and I want to make one of those. Thanks for everything! Patrice
Marie, as a new potter, I am loving all of your videos. I am searching for a video for making farm style/old fashion small milk bottles that could be fitted with large corks. The shoulders of the bottle are vexing me. Can you help?
Thank you so much. Welcome to the wonderful world of crafting pottery. I'm happy to help you on your journey of learning the skill. This is the closest video I have on moving the clay out and collaring it in right now. Here is the link for you ruclips.net/video/hhKL8_hbSBg/видео.html The trick is to make sure you leave enough clay on the rim, Don't let the rim get too thin. You can always take the clay off, but you can't add it. Collar in will with both hands, then pull up the walls of the bottleneck. Collar in and pull up. The clay gets thicker when you collar it in, giving you enough clay to work with. Hope this helps.
@@PotteryCrafters Thank you I will try that. I think the thicker top is my problem so this is perfect. How do you flatten the cylinder to mimic the bottle-look?
Hello, thank you so much for all your vidéos.. I am starting with ceramics and I learn many from you. I have a question. I want to purchase the Amaco brush on potters choice glaze. Where I want to buy, there is a notice that said (safety warning tableware producers must test all finish ware to establish dinnerware status, due to possible variations in firing température and contamination) What does that mean please?
Thank you Marie. Good question. I have actually spoke to a representative about that a year ago. He had stated that they must make that statement because customers may mix food safe glazes with other glazes and or not fire to the proper temperature.
I do. But there are exception. This post will help you decide if you can or want to. Here is the link for you. potterycrafters.com/can-pottery-go-in-the-dishwasher/
Hi Marie, Great video! I want to dip these glazes. If you can pour without issue, why couldn't you dip, assuming I have 2 or 3 pints for a dipping-sized container? Thank you.
Thank you Kathy! Yes you can, Just make sure you dip fast or the glaze will be too thick, because it is not the same as dipping glaze and very similar to pouring .😊
You are most welcome! Sure Kathy. I have successfully added up to one eighth of a cup of water to one pint of Amaco glaze. I do use purified or distilled water. 💖
When I pour over a mug, I pour the contents of the bowl back into the manufacturer 's jar. Do you? Are you concerned about the crackle sodium contaminating the remainder of the glaze? Thank you for your videos! I love how you show the fired piece after you glaze. 🎉
Hi Sally. Yes I do same thing. I even use a splash of distilled water to get the rest of the glaze back in the bottle. Good question. Only if the greenware with sodium silicate was glazed and single fired. The mug with the sodium silicate was bisque fired and washed. 😊
Thanks Marie this is an awesome video seeing all 6 in one vid is extremely helpful. I think Midnight run is my favourite but do you think it's too close to blue rutile? I haven't seen it in real life yet. What do you think?
Hi. Thank you. No I don't think so. I just LOVE blue rutile. I buy it buy the gallon. I have a spoon rest with just blue rutile also. If you like, you can go to my Pottery Crafters website and in the question section say ( show the blue rutile spoon rest) I'll send you a picture of it. Happy Glazing.
Looking at your spoon rest, the peaks on the Midnight Run glaze look Yellow on my TV. Do the highest points turn Yellow-ish? Thanks Marie for sharing your test results. They all look like winners.
Really useful videos. thank you. When you say you fire cone 6 with 20 min hold do you set your own program or just use Skutt pre-programmed? If you use the pre-programmed option do you choose slow, medium or fast, and is the hold at the very end? Thanks so much!
Hi I wanted to ask can i apply clear glaze on top of amaco glaze food safe ones ?and what’s the difference between amaco food safe glaze and under glaze withe clear glaze on top ?
Yes, you can, but it wouldn't add any extra benefit unless you want to add shine to a matte glaze. There is no difference. They both seal the pottery. And the clear glaze seals the underglaze. Unless the clear glaze does not say food safe or dinnerware safe. 😊
1:30 sorry to hijack this video, but I'd like to get your opinion on something. Can I apply cone 05 glaze to a bisque fired cone 5 clay ( b mix). And fire to cone 05?
No Problem. Good question Yes you can. The only problem I can foresee happening is the clay and glaze may not expand and contract together in the kiln and you may get crazing. I would suggest doing a test fire with the clay and glaze first. 😊
That is a very good Question. If the crystal levels in the glaze are below the established limits, the glaze can be marked as "Food Safe." The crystals in the glaze can create crevices and nooks that can trap food even after washing. 😊
I love how you show the finished product right after pouring. Thank you for the tips, too!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you Sally 😊
Pretty colors! Thank you 😊
You’re welcome 😊
Thank you, Marie! We are all so lucky you that you share so generously and teach in such a kind, patient style! So grateful to you!

Yes. I choose medium and the hold is at the end. This helps the glaze heal and evens out the temperature in the kiln.
