I just came across your video, and the length is fine. The little nuggets of info you give are so appreciated. Impatient people will switch to another channel and never know the knowledge they have passed up. You are providing answers to questions they've yet to encounter.
To me time is not the critical factor, quality of the content is what is most important. I’ve wasted my time on 8 minute videos and spent every last second on a great one hour plus one. Your videos are of excellent quality, with an informative and approachable style. I can go and try doing what you show right afterwards. That is well worth my time. Thank you.
I’m sure someone has replied to you about the chunks in the glaze but just in case they haven’t the chunks are crystals that burst and melt when in the kiln. The best way to be sure to get the crystals is to use a spoon to scrape the bottom so when you shake the glaze the crystals get incorporated into the glaze. If they settle really fast I just scoop some out with a spoon and apply them with a brush with the last coat! Thank you sooooo much for your videos!! I’d love to see a tour of your space. I’m so glad your wife encouraged you to have your own space to do your pottery!
I think it’s really helpful to see how the glazes are applied. So, thanks! I think it was Lisa Finkel or maybe Kim Unseth that said they manage the crystals in glazes by finding out the base glaze in the crystal glaze, and adding more base glaze to the bucket of the crystal glaze, to thin out the number of crystals. Did that make sense? I know what you mean about looooong videos - lol. I often speed through someone talking at length while standing in front of their closed kiln. Just open that sucker! Lol.
I absolutely love your videos, and yes the long one too. Glazing videos are my favourite ones. There is so much tricks can be seen. But basically I love any longer videos about pottery 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I love the combo. I am originally from Arkansas, then moved to Idaho in 91. Then got into pottery in 2020 and got hooked. Instead of the Birch, I am going to use Winterwood. I will post a picture when I get done. But thank you for the time you took to show how you applied the glazes.
I see Winterwood is a matte glaze. It will be interesting to see how that turns out. Would love to see your pics. What I like about River Birch is it is one of Amaco’s flux glazes so as a base it helps everything run together. I hope you are enjoying Idaho. Sounds cold to me 😊.
I trim the bottom of my pots like you do. I will add those lines to help slow down runny glazes. Your work is just beautiful. I love that glaze. I go to a studio and it is fun. I would though love to have a studio of my own. Thank you for sharing your talents and ideas. I subscribed. I will look at more of your work.
I cant read those blog recipes either. But i really enjoy lonher videos and the small chit chat. Theres also a ton to learn from watching every thing you do.love this!
I really like the longer videos - as a beginner I need all the visual help I can get! Thanks for the generous sharing of your knowledge and skills. sub zero and snow here in Saskatchewan :/
Start to finish firing and show the finished mugs, soup bowls I'm starting out and it would be great to see your pieces finished thanks for your posts a learning experience
I hope it helps you. I use it as a decorative enhancement on these bowls but they don’t have to be that big. One nice groove towards the foot can sometimes be all you need. Thanks for watching. I appreciate your comment.
I loved this video! I enjoy listening to you... your voice and manner is very soothing. I also was so happy to see and hear your technique for applying the glazes! Short or long? Either is good... if I don’t have the time for a long one, I just send it to myself for later when I do! Either way, your pottery and videos are DOPE!♥️😂🔥🤷♀️
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the feedback(pause here while I go put on my cape)! It’s always a challenge to know what style video fits most people. I’m really glad you enjoy my work. If you would like to see more of it follow me on Instagram. Healing_Earth_Ceramics. Thanks for watching Erin! 😊
I fire to cone 6. I have 2 old Duncan manual kilns so there is no hold. I usually go on Low for an hour, move to Medium for around 2 hours then go to High for 2 more hours. At the 5 hour mark I set it on High Fire and let it run till the kiln sitter trips which usually around 5.25 to 5.50 hours. It’s really quick but that’s how my old glaze kiln works. It get’s hot fast and gets the job done. I use my other kiln for bisque because it heats up slower. Hope this helps. Glad you liked the video.
I love you videos. I just ordered River Birch myself! My daughter and her family live in ARK. and we are planning to move there in the next year or so. Can you give any tips on Art festivals I should attend in Eureka Springs or Mountain Home? I am hoping I can make pottery to supplement our retirement in that area. Thank you for the time and energy you put into your videos!
That is awesome! I’m sure there are plenty of festivals around although I don’t know them specifically. I’d check with the chamber of commerce or Google festivals for each area. Both towns are beautiful places to enjoy.
I use a fan brush for large areas and the old wooden import brushes for other stuff. I actual have a thick round brush for acrylic paints I got at Hobby Lobby for smaller areas.
Thank you! We live in the heart of trees and the color was probably better here than south of us. We took the next day to just mosey around locally for a few hours and enjoy some beautiful trees.

I enjoy seeing the details
Love seeing other potters combo glazes! I’m still learning. We can always fast forward.
Thanks for the feedback.
Stirring tip for the crystals. I use plastic knives. Always have them from parties. No one uses the knife lol
I wash them & reuse. They stir so well.
Great tip! Thanks for sharing.

Actually it does. More base fewer crystals. Thanks!
Definitely do more longer videos!!!!! We beginners appreciate it very much. It's not like Grandma's history. LOL :)
I’m working on it. Thanks for the comment and for watching. Hope the videos help you. 😊

It is cold but a dry cold. Not very much humid in the summer. I will send pics when it is done.

Thank you for the information. Could you film horizontally rather than vertically. You can see so much more in horizontal aspect.
I’ll give it a try next time. Thanks for the suggestion.
I love this!
Glad you like it. Give it a try. Thanks for watching. 😊
Love it!
Thanks!!
Thanks so much for the tip to stop the runny glazes! I have a terrible problem with that happening so I will try your method!

Definitely worth a try.

Great for learning thanks
Glad you find it helpful. Thanks for watching.
Edit out or speed up in editing program the heat gun parts.
Thanks. I have started doing that with later videos. It is quite annoying. Thanks for watching.
Is the bowl you showed the same glaze in the beginning of your post looks great thanks
Yes, that bowl is River Birch with Albany Slip Brown around the rim.
how much clay do you use for soup mugs?
1 lb and 6 oz. More if you want bigger or taller.
Thanks for the demo. Edit out the heat gun and it will be quicker. We are doing bowls of hope and I will try this on some of the bowls.
Thanks, I’ve started fast forwarding the heat gun. I can cut it out in the future. Hope you enjoyed the video.
Viewed your video again.....love that combination. What cone do you fire at....any holding? Thanks in advance!

Store glazes with crystals upside down.
Thanks, that’s a really good idea. 😊

PS hoping y'all get to Wine country before the colors are completely gone
