Can I stop this Mercedes from being scrapped?

- I bought this 1992 Mercedes S-Class that was destined to be scrapped because it's a non-runner. Can I get it to run once again and save it from the scrapyard?

I just want to say thanks for all the great comments and the well wishes. The channel is getting to the point where I can no longer respond to most of the comments like I used to, but I just want you to know that I read and appreciate them all!
Mechanical injection? K jetronic?
Crank position sensor?
Doesn't it use distributor?
Ah yeah, that old excuse. You become famous, get a new workshop, put out some dance moves on video and then suddenly you don't have time to reply to your adoring fans!...Just kidding mate,😁😂 congratulations on your thoroughly deserved new workshop and best wishes for the future.👍❤️👍
That is good, nobody is entitled to a response.
really interested in this car can’t wait to see more I think the engine may have been swapped I was thinking maybe body kit swap but due to being registered as a amg that’s the only reasonable explanation
It could be a amg car with a replacement engine
We all have to make this channel economically viable for this family. Love it!!!
🤝
I cannot remember hoping so much that this young chap makes a huge success on RUclips hes is simply a delight to watch and if anyone on here deserves to hit it off form him and his young family its this young man, keep up the fantastic work, new to your channel and I absolutely love it.
Sunroof drain pipes blocked, hence water in footy wells, blow them out from underneath. 186,000 miles is officially "Run-in!, rest will be relatively straightforward to sort with your commitment! The proper battery will be a biggun'. Haynes manual maybe??? My friend had one of this model at 480,000 miles, still absolutely fine. Built when quality was important at MB, the fact that it only needed a distributor cap and rotor is a testament to it's inherent reliability and build quality. Congratulations on the workshop. Brilliant! James
Thats as far as sunlight can go in a second
2:00 that shed scene cracked me up. Glad it's not just me who lives like that.
Congratulations on your first workshop, mate
Thanks mate 🤝
This channel, M539 Restorations and Day Off DIY are the realest most relatable Restoration channels going 🙌
And LegitStreetCars!
I love M539, but not sure how relatable it is. He's full time, all the tools etc. He's pretty much professional at this point. Fantastic content, but well, well beyond what most of us can aspire to!
@@flat6croc For me it's his level of attention to detail, I aspire to the quality. With a full time job, I do not have the time, experience or tools that he has an abundance of, I relate to the methodology, instruction, process and outcome. I have an E46 and I've watched that project a number of times while restoring my car. Also, all the channels I listed are full time RUclipsrs, what did you mean by "He's full time"?
+ EMS garage
So proud of you man. You are so easy to watch, such a great personality.
🤝
You’ve got to restore it. I had a 123 restored and kept it for 15 years changed it for a 124 also restored but personal issues forced me to give it up. These old classics deserve a new life. They were built at the end of a golden era because current mercs are not built to the same standard.
Pleased to see you in a dedicated unit too. You will go from strength to strength and I love the fact that you are resorting old cars, there are millions of them waiting in barns and sheds all over the world awaiting your to sate your addiction! ¡Buena suerte !
He calls himself "not economically viable" but has now a nice garage to work to his project! Love it
It's not the cars sale price paying for that though it's us watching, and I for one am glad my views will help keep him dry
@@simonupton-millard Yes, what I mean is not directly the cars he bought, but indirectly the fact that we like this content he makes with those cars.
I know it wouldn’t be very economically viable to do so, but what I will tell you as a 20 year old who’s dream car is is practically exactly one of those. An old Mercedes with the AMG body kit and wheels with a hearty engine. I would never let one of those go and in your specific case that car has christened your new workshop.
Naturally welding and cutting that whole car to get it back to a good standard would be expensive but I think that would be my dream for it.
Now I’m destined to drive a 2009 Cat N astra 1.4 as my first car so I’ll watch for hopefully this car to have a long and expensive life. For perhaps a lucky man like myself to drive a similar beast in the future.
Fantastic video and I’ll look forward for the next one as I always have.
The joy on your face when you showed us the workshop.. priceless! keep up the good work!
After VGG, this channel is my fav car restore channel.
Same, though I also like Tasty Classics.
Same. What about Stay Tuned ?
M539 Restorations👍

Fantastic news you've got a workshop after 3 years really pleased for you let's support this great channel and really nice guy 😊
So glad you found the bonnet service position, I was shouting at the screen 😂
I was afraid it was gonna fell off on his head 😂
I am so pleased for you dude. The joy you showed having your own workshop made me smile. Brilliant stuff. Keep it going sir
Get in Nino!! 👏🏿👏🏿 Congrats on the workshop and full time RUclips.
Keep the W126, get in running, daily it. Every bit of restoration you'll do will increase it's value even more.
I have one myself. Few modern cars have the presence and character these cars do. You will not regret it!
now you're talking!!! what a car!
My W124 failed to start. It would run on EZ Start - so no fuel...The fuel pump relay was the culprit - the output pins had cracked solder joints visible with a loupe. I removed all the old solder, used flux and re-soldered the pins and the problem was solved. It had been intermittent up to the point of failure and I would pray it would start. The dry joints were the problem. Great to see you get it going.
omg! ich glaubs ja nicht. es macht so spass, dir bei der fehlersuche über die schulter zu gucken und dir zu zuhören. 😂😂 u made my day. a fat THX. refurb it as a dayly driver.
Ich bewundere immer seine Ausdauer, um nicht zu sagen Hartnäckigkeit. Respekt!
Distributor cap .. I have changed my fuse box on my 260 e.. everything works beautifully now..
LEGEND - MY MAN! OLD SKOOL MERC IN THE HOUSE
Have to say that I'm very happy about you! Love your content, humor sensor and your approach to save these cars. God bless you, your family and this channel. Regards from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
I'm so proud of you, Nino, like watching a son grow old. Keep up the good work, my friend!
Nice garage! Congratulations and success!
This car deserves to be restored. The way it is now is really painful to see.
Full rebuild please. And congrats on the new workshop, it should be a gamechanger!
Incredible to see how far you've come since the channel started. Can't wait to see a two-post ramp in there. Congratulations!
Amazing way to spend the evening - absolutely love these vids!
Glad you enjoy them!
Love watching you trying to fix the cars up, brings back memories from the 80s. Love your patience and your videos
Man I got goosebumps when you showed the workshop. So happy for you man. I’m new to the channel. I followed all the Mini R53 series and I love your content. Best wishes from Honduras.
I’m surprised you take a chance keeping petrol in a shed that tidy. It’s probably tidier than my garage😂. Love your videos. Great educational learning on just how to get on and do stuff. Brilliant keep up the great work
So happy for you about your workshop. Happy days!
Restore it, make it look the way it would have looked when it rolled off the showroom floor. Classic mercs look so good that way. Sure, you can make a few tasteful modifications to it.
New to the channel, this is the third or fourth video I have watched and I was hooked to the insanely detailed troubleshooting and commitment in all of them. Keep up the good work!
I have a locked large metal box in the garden with petrols containers, propane gas bottle and mini bottles for my gas welder. Better than being in the garage that is attached to the house.
I 2nd this as a storage option for petrol containers, Propane bottles.
lookup Fuelsafe or Chemsafe, very good ways to store dangerous substances :)
Definitely don't want a rocket launch in a attached garage 😮😮😮😂😂😂😂
Congratulations on your new workshop. Love your videos, so much positive energy.
Cheers on the new shop! and on the great news of full-time YT! Godspeed!
Appreciate that 🤝
Enjoyed watching the channel grow and looking forward now to even more content. Kudos..👍🏻
The unit is an absolute game changer. So happy for you & the fam.
Congratulations on the new workshop. Next time you get an old car like this get a can of brake cleaner. Spray in intake and that will tell you straight away what you’re missing. If she runs-no fuel. If she doesn’t-no spark or impulse for injectors on slightly newer cars. That would have saved you tonnes of time. Looking forward to many more videos on this old beauty.
So pleased for you. Been watching you since the Mini Cooper S days. You deserve it! 👏
Greetings from ex brit in Canada love the content, great work I would Sell the wheels & Body Kit put it to a shop lift, at 61 and watching your videos I feel all the previous pains and struggles of doing things on the ground so a mirror reflection. Back to the Merc add stock wheels and sell as is running.
Absolutely enjoyed watching this video (like all the other videos by the way).
What a car. Hope to see you driving it to Morocco and see you work together with local mechanics and body repair owners. You’ll learn so much of each others. Congratulations on your new workshop!
Nino. Repair it & Drive it.
Awesome to See you now have a shop to work in.
No more wet work days bonus.!
Also Try and find out what thickness the concrete is.
Then you can get a lift to save your back.
excited for this one!
b82rez 2g4.. I often say that at work, few will understand.
Well done on getting that 126 running and congrats on the new workshop!
Loved it! So happy to see you making progress and finally having a proper working space!
This needs to be you first restoration car in your new shop, a start to finish project, your channel will fly and deservedly so 🙌
Please save the car! Those AMG conversions are rare, especially as a 300SE! It seems to have some nice features like the grey leather upholstery, power seats and a sunroof. I didn't pay attention if it has air conditioning but I suppose so. I drive a W126 myself and can help you with addresses for sourcing spare parts (although in Germany). Patch panels and used body parts don't cost a fortune and generally, the M103 straight-six is cheaper and easier to maintain then the M116/M117 V8s that came in the W126. I would consider swapping the grille for an original one with an upright hood star. Also as a matter of fact, your car has to be a 1991 since production stopped that year, maybe the first registration was in 1991. Good luck with the project!
Respect for so openly embracing your child like wonder when you're recognising youv leveled up in life with the workshop and full time youtubing, youre normally very humble this really made me smile! really enjoy your videos looking forward to watching them for many years to come :)
What makes this channel a treat to watch is how relatable you are! Keep it like this, and good luck going ahead! Concerning the Merc'... If I should decide on it, I'd get the wheels and body kit off of it and sell them, put something in their place just to make it look somewhat nice. If the underbody is worth anything I'd fix up the car to a certain extent, and make some content on it in the meantime and when it is in a sellable state I'd sell it to someone who will take care of it and restore it.
Got here via the Range Rover video yesterday and really glad I can now add another great car RUclips channel to the mix....SUBSCRIBED!
What a sweet car. Definitely take the time to restore it to its former glory but keep it as the AMG clone. It looks bad ass.
Looking forward to all the new vids in the new shop!!
It's an M103 12 valve - also available in the early w124's, R107, w129, and your w126
Get what you can for the parts spend it on the workshop . Glad to see a workshop if anyone out there deserves one its you .
Congratulations mate. Having a unit will give you so much more opportunities. You need a ramp now at an angle on right as you look from door. Then you can have atleast 2 cars to potentially work on at once. Only way is up and forward now🎉
Keep up the great videos 👍🏻
My first video I watched of yours
The A6 Quattro 2.5 TDI V6
1.2k views
We all have a shed that is a mess tbh
I watched a few more videos , and what a surprise ..
Getting your own workshop
Everyone is chuffed for you .
Well done .
👍👍😁
Sometimes just going back to basics like squirting a bit of ezi start or brake cleaner also works, down the air intake!
Worked for my none starting focus a few weeks ago, after extensive testing/ diagnosing of multiple other parts, sensors etc.
Turns out I'd just washed the bores of oil, lost compression and literally the ezi start helped give that initial combustion to get oil pressure back and compression. 😊
Absolutely loved that. I do the same as you guys but with Motorbikes. I'm also not driven by money, just happy customers.
when you first tested the spark I thought, eh up not so fast, that was a single weak spark! Glad you got her running though, its a solid tank
Properly happy for you, my man! Love to see it working out for you and LOVE LOVE LOVE your videos. I was just telling my brothers that watching your videos, reminds me of my father’s approach to fixing up old cars that were just money pits. It’s a little hit of nostalgia, every time you post a video. Thank you for the great content. RE the car, get it fixed up!! Would love to see this car on the channel in a respectable state!
Congrats on the unit Nino. Continued success mate. Regards from Ireland
Just wanted to say how much I love the channel and enjoy all the vids they help me feel more confident working on my cars and I have you on in the background within our gym.
Thank you for all your hard work and congratulations on the workshop 🎉🎉
Awesome video! Matt Armstrong and you are my favs on RUclips congrats on the workshop well deserved!😊🎉
I cannot tell you how much I want that car. I love it. Truly love it.
Mercs of that era looked so much nicer than today's models. The 300 CE was awesome looking. Great to see you've gone full time on RUclips. It's always a pleasure to see someone make it in life through their own hard work. Well done mate. 😊
Thanks mate
Free play in those throttle pedals is normal, they shouldn’t be too tight.
Secondly, for optimum idle mixture adjustment, it’s best to warm the car to operating temp first. If you have duty cycle on your multi meter and you can measure the reading of the lambda sensor via the round diagnostic terminal in the engine bay using ports 3 and 2. You can interpret mixture based on its o2 reading. 50% is what you’re looking for and your mixture is good but the car needs to be fully warmed up. Search for duty cycle w126 on the forums, very detailed explanations out there. Good luck
I really like these long mechanically focused videos. A good balance for the "car challenge" videos on other UK channels which seem to be sadly moving away from relatable/affordable cars...
Not sure what you should do with the merc, but love the process of elimination to getting it started. You've definitely got a good mechanical and electrical understanding. 👍👍👍👍
Excellent troubleshooting process, thoroughly enjoyed it!
40:35 Meowchanic assistant!
43:00 Alan Shearer goal celebration
And congratulations for getting your new very cool place; your workshop!
Also independence from the British weather.
Your wish came true!
My suggestion for the car is to use it as your daily driver because you look like the boss driving it!
Been watching from the start (almost) a very relatable fella. Enjoy who you are and what you get up to. Really pleased for you that you've decided to go full time at youtube. Best of luck I'll keep watching. 👍🏻
Congratulations, on the workshop, and on your dancer abilities. The MB deserves to be restored, good luck.
“Where that even mount in here, like this , right here, right here?” Absolutely killed me. Great watch, new subscriber !
Congrats on getting your own workshop mate!
More often than not, replacing the distributor and rotor on older cras does wonders, as long as you got fuel, air and compression :)
Congrats, mate, on your new shop!
A hundred thousand subs is closer than you think.
Nice videos, by the way. 👍🍻
What a brilliant feeling when you get it started up. Well done you. It sounds nice I think. My old Mk3 XR3i had the KE Jetronic system. Quite a decent unit.
Been watching since the mini series, you’ve come a long way, congrats on the shop!!
I’d sell the wheels and body kit, and then sell the rest as is. Use the profit for some equipment and get the maroon Merc sorted.
I’d wager the rust you see now is just the tip of the iceberg, the repair pieces you’d have to fabricate are all quite intricate, it’s a baptism of fire fixing that.
It’d take an extremely long time and people would (sadly) likely lose interest in a drawn out restoration.
I’d imagine the Peugeot ute would be easier to fix if you wanted to muck around learning rust and panel repair. Simpler and more forgiving.
One thing I couldn’t do without in my unit is a sturdy work bench with a good vice. Looking forward to more regular uploads!
A bit late to it, but I am so happy for your new shop! Cheers from America!
Congratulations on the new workshop👍🏻
So pleased you've got to this stage, love the channel
Been watching you a while and feel your pain walking up and the down the garden to fetch tools something I suffer too arghh
Great to see you have a workshop looking forward to more content 👍
I myself would love to see it restored. It has a very cool presence to it. Congrats on the new workshop too. Its going to be a real game changer for you !
Firstly congratulations on new workshop. Secondly spark was weak when spark tester was used and I'm glad you have figured it out eventually. Thirdly sell the car as is, that will give it a chance to be restored, hopefully. Once you strip it for parts it will be gone for ever. Good luck in new chapter.👍👍👍👍👍
Absolutely made up for you man! I've been here since your first video and you have come on leaps and bounds! I'd love to see this car restored but maybe for someone else sell it for profit and use the money for a lift and extra tools 🤘
Sir, I am so happy for you, this is one of my favorite channels, you are a real hoot, the content is very interesting, & I love the humble beginning, it's a veritable rags to workshop story, as a 63 year old ex pat Brit, I love watching for the scenery as much as the content, cheers big ears
Hey Nino Nice workshop! Recognise that place, lots of brains to pick nearby and an MOT station as well!, excellent no fear of breaking down on route! Lots of people to take the pi$$ as well though! Most important tool in place? Kettle!
First of all : congratulation to your Workshop and all the best AS a fulltime RUclipsr 👏. If you are able and Brave enough to fix the Car, do it. It would be a pleasure to watch and to follow this rebuild. Have a nice one 😊.
I really do like your channel. You’re one of the most authentic and nice to watch RUclipsrs. Keep up the good work. Greetings from the Netherlands
I absolutely love watching your content, it’s so brutally honest and informative as well as the odd cackle of laughter with the shed scenes and dropping of spark plug sensor. We have all endured moments like that!
I agree with others about selling wheels and AMG kit, get a lift and produce more content.
congrats on the workshop bruv! first time viewer for your channel with this vid. proper respect from me in the us to you! can't wait to see you do more in your shop, and hopefully with more mercedes
Thanks and welcome 🤝
Hello from Los Angeles, sir just stumbled upon your channel. and good sir you have won my subscription keep up the great work can't wait to see you in action, and congrats on the shop cheers.
Well pleased for you getting the new workshop, remember if you want any chroming done give me a shout, also well done for getting the car started and if I were you I'd sell it for parts and make your money back that way, don't think it's worth saving! I love classic cars, got an old Jaguar XJR myself but I think this Merc is worth more in parts. Just my opinion, ... Love the cat as well.
Congrats on the new shop pal.
Look forward to some cool projects 👍
Mate, you are inspiring! Just happened to come across your channel on a random search and thoroughly enjoyed watching this. All the best with the workshop.
Nice to see you going for it full-time, try repairing it to an ok standard just like we would try too!
Congratulations on your new workshop 🙂 and that Mercedes is awesome.
Mate! Levelled up now 🙌 Congrats on the channel growing and building the dream!
Keep doing what you are doing man and enjoy the dry and light 😎
Only recently found your channel, awesome to see you get your own workshop 👍
Congratulations on the workshop bro!!!
Seeing you so excited about your workshop makes me smile😂😂 congrats brother!
Good luck with the workshop! Also show us how you install your lift and other tools!
Just seen the end of this vid and heard you are now FT on RUclips! Thats amazing news! I susbcribed about 6 months agao and have watched all of the content you have put out. I'm so pleased for you and your family. well done for all the hard work and persistance. Lookng forward to you hitting some new subscription milestones now
